at least for my variety of aquatic turtle, they start out carniverous when they're little and become vegetarian as they get older.

he used to eat guppies, now he eats turtle pellets - they're about the size of bb's and they smell like fruit loops cereal. I also give him fresh fruit occasionally, he likes grapes and tomatoes the best.


I once wrote to a turtle owner's message board and asked how you can tell if you're overfeeding your turtle. They responded with,
"if the turtle goes into his shell, and the pudge comes out, he's too fat."

FC, you've had hamsters? When I was a kid many of my classmates had these ugly critters and were pretty evil with them. Letting cats on em etc. Someone talked how he wanted to see if a hamster could swim so he threw it in his bathtub, thus, drowning the poor creature. What a dope.... But I'm not that big of a fan of hamsters since one of my cousins bit me in my nose.

They do not bite if you train and handle them properly.

I got to the turtle board through a general pet-owners site. once you get into the "alt.bin.whatever" stuff you can find a usergroup for anything and everything.

I was vacationing in the Outer Banks of North Carolina once and there was a HUGE snapping turtle in the road. I swear he sized up the truck like he was going to come after it. He was probably almost 2 feet across and his head was bigger than a fist. He would certainly have eaten a hamster. And the cage.
