    film about yang luchan

    The Magic Beggar

    THE MAGIC BEGGAR
Stars: Wang Qun. MA rating: 5

Epic mid-1980s mainland Chinese production (China Film Inc.), fictionalized legend of Yang style tai chi founder Yang Luchan, and his attempts to learn tai chi from Chen Chan Hsing (of the original Chen style. (Yang modified the Chen style to incorporate more sweeping motions). The second half features more drama than action. Nevertheless, this is a serious tai chi student's dream, and is full of well-choreographed tai chi training, performed by Wang and a high caliber mainland Chinese cast (many players from the Beijing Wu Shu Academy). Very obscure and probably hard to find.

(note: 5 is the highest possible rating)

I'd been looking for this for a while and found it here

slightly different title but obviously the same movie. Gonna try to find it with some subs though

I got this downtown today and watched it. There was some cool tai chi combat choreagraphy, but not enough to recommend it without subtitles. I don't even know if such a version exists. There aren't that many flicks with tai chi action (return of the tai chi master, Undaunted Wudang, and there was a tv series called Taiji Prodiy that I saw a little of) unfortunately.

    Vcd...

I just bought 28vcd on luchan story.
The fights and application of chen style are good.
Althought the story is meant to fit commercial purpose it does not wander TOO far from reality.

    Cool ...

    hum...
actually there is two edition of the early age of Zhang san fen.
but in either the fight are not as good as this one.
Also there are some new vcd about chen wangting.

the one i was talking about is/ taiji zhong shi/ the masters of the taiji clan.
being a chen taiji practionner I find the fights quite good and following real applications.

If your into that, the one you REALLY need to try and dig up is the original 'She Diao Yingxiong Zhuan'. (english title: Condor Heroes?) They mad a big budget remake recently and it was roundly denouced as a piece of Hong Kong trash by pretty much everyone who grew up with the original but the 1970's-ish one is an absolute classic. It's based on some series of books. The new one is all hype, wires and qi-blasts that blow out the floor tiles but the new one is reallt engaging. The hero starts out pure of heart and foggy or brain and when he first meets his love interest she could totally kick his ass. It takes him half way through the series to become even half eay decent. It was really the story of how, through perseverance and pure motives a simple child can grow into a national hero. I really got to like many of the characters and was a little bummed out when I finnally finished the series.

    Talking qi blasts

have u seen the story of zhang wu ji (not sure about the spelling), also known by the two:
hulong dao and yiji jin (not sure about spelling either)
one saber and on sword from tibet that give an incredible power and are about to bring the world into chaos till, wuji a yong wudang priest (at the beginning) begin is path from simple martail artist to a legend.
Those are also based on a best seller. it made a great hit in may in china, almsot everyone now know the name of zhang wu ji, since it is pretty fun to follow one carater that finish being a kick ass god.

I have the Magic Begger and I beleive it has subs. I don't remember, as I haven't see it for a while.

I also have a movie called Tai Chi, this one from Mainland China, about two brothers whose family is killed and as they are traveling the countryside, they meet a master of taiji living his his two daughters. Great tai chi action as well as a Chen Xiao Wang demo right in the beginning of the film.

I'm looking for Ang Lee's Pushing Hands, and Wu Jing's Master of Tai Chi (taiji chung si). Anyone have these for sale?

I actually, have a bunch of cool tapes. open to trades

froggy- the one with the two daughters is also called tai chi chuan and revenge or return of the tai chi master or something. the latter is a little longer. I have a bagua one of similar quality to magic begger, from the same series with the communist movies and s forth. I saw one of those movies about mao and his soldiers, worst movie I've ever seen
I do not ever see Sifu do anything that could be construed as a hula dancer- hasayfu

I have seen one on baguazhang, it sucked rocks, I think it had "baguazhang" in the name. Very little baguazhang in it.

The Honor of Dongfangxue is the only movie about baguazhang that I liked and I also like the 1980's Fong Sai Yuk 2, which had a bunch of wushu styles, including baguazhang. Say, anyone here have Fong Sai Yuk2?

I AM looking for movies with bagua and xingyi. Can anyone recommend any?

    Chui Lian Ting Zheng

Would anyone have it, or can direct me a link to where I may get it?
