    Cardio

Yes, I know there's a training forum. But I want the opinions of the people who frequent this forum and hardly ever go there.

    Two questions:

    1. How much cardio do you do, and what does it consist of?

    2. Do you ever do this exercise that I'm about to describe? We did it in MMA club but I can't say what it was called because it's offensive. The exercise goes like this. You jog in place kinda, but you pull your knees up really high with each step, and while you're doing that you punch forward pretty fast with alternating hands. The punching and stepping aren't really in sync, you just do each one kinda independently. It burns if you do it right. Um, I saw a few seconds of a clip of Igor Vovchanchyn doing it on the Pride 10 (I think it was 10) DVD when they were showing his background before a fight. I go "hey, he does this too! I wonder if anyone on KFM does it, too."

I said KFM instead of KFO. Go me

Yea, we do a drill similar to that, except that we extend the rear leg far back and bend the front leg. So it's actually ski-jogging in place with punches.

    Iron,

I did that all the time when I was boxing competitively. My trainer called them "Canadian Wind Sprints".

I have seen that drill done, but never really tried it.
    My cardio is...
    LOTS of bagwork
    Jumping rope with weights on
Hopping (jumping from a full squat repeatedly)
    and jogging.
    (and of course sparring)

3 6 minute rounds of a sports-specific interval routine w/1 minute rest between each set, three times per week. Target heart rate is as high as you can get it but I usually top out at about 170-175 for those six minutes.

Any sparring I get during the week.

I run a minimum of 5 miles 4 times a week. I try to get in one 10 miler each month. Time is the biggest issue.

On sat or Sunday I do 880's on the track (Sprints) but that helps bring up the speed on the runs also.

    Sparring, drills ...

For fight specific you have to fight. I know guys who run more than I do but fight little, they cant hang with guys who dont run but fight all the time. Its specific training that will make you excell.
