the scariest part is, I know what most of that means. What are you doing visualizations of?

    Apologies in advance.

Not so much visualisation, more calculations. It's an area of mechanical/civil engineering/maths/physics called the finite element method (FEM). Newtonian differential equations of motion (from physics) can be used to define the motion of an object. But these equations are difficult/impossible to solve for a large object for every vertex. FE treats a large object as a composition of small objects (like a house made of Lego). Equations of motion are then solved for each of the small "bricks" and assembled into a mesh representing the whole object. This provides a means of predicting the motion of a large object at any time step. Visualisation is a small part of it, but number crunching is where it's at. Vertex texture access means I can assign position, mass, mechanical properties, previous position, etc to a texture and use that texture to access/perform calculations per vertex.

    ok.
I had to use dictionary.com once, but for the most part I get it.

what's the end application of the results of your calculations? maybe failure analysis?

    edit:
oops I snuck that in after the edict. I hope I don't get beheaded.

    Forgive me, my queen.

Lots of applications. Failure analysis is a typical one. Car crash simulation is another. Metal forming analyses. But I'm in biomedical, so brain mechanics. One example is "brain shift". Say a patient has a tumour, revealed in MRI scans. You can recreate the location of the tumour from the scans. But when a surgeon cuts open a skull, the brain shifts due to various unknown (at this stage) phenomena. This minor shift is enough for the tumour to move a little bit. Far enough that if the surgeon operates where he thought the tumour was, he could remove undamaged brain and affect functionality. Or he could remove not enough tumour and the patient will remiss. A minefield of potential litigation for a surgeon, so many are reluctant to operate and rely on palliative care instead. Hopefully an FE analysis will allow prediction of the tumour location after "brain shift" and hence make surgery viable. This is more my supervisor's area of interest. I'm purely interested in reliable and fast compututation of results (software background).

I may not have brought anything, but I never said I did. You did. I question your contribution (nice spelling again ) here. I would say you've brought nothing worthwhile in your whole time here except made people laugh at you.

BTW, as we've seen many times, in your mind anything goes and you're always right and everyone else is always wrong. Funny how you're the only one with that view ...

ok.mr bl stalker genius no 1.your cutting me down certainly suggests you've brought some knowledge,.second I'd hone those stalking / trolling skills because unless you really were vigilant and had access to pms I'd be shuttin the f*k up any moment..seriously..........I'm open to debate and at least I'm level and confident or open enough to table my ideas,....f*ck needing to always be right.......if you have some proof why I'm not,, genuiniely interested to talk about that.I don't know where you get off , but meiguanxie,,doesn't matter.I'll get off in stead..pmsing or pregnant, busy and not in the mood...

good luck with the trolling thing...

Yep. I'm a stalker. Here's how you can be one too. Select the "User Control Panel" link at the top of this page. Then select the "Edit Options" link. Then select the "Yes" radio button on the "Use 'Email Notification' by default?" option. Then "Using this option emails you whenever someone replies to a thread that you have participated in.". That's my hi-tech stalking method.

You're not open to debate. We saw that time and time again in the training forum. Debate implies logical reasoning with evidence to support your propositions. None of that from you. I've put forward many ideas there. Mostly in support of PTP and HIIT. Often with references. When I (and others) would argue with you, you weren't genuinely interested in talking about it. You would become (more) incoherant and start ranting. If you were able to debate, you wouldn't be receiving the attitude that you do.

You're still avoiding my question ...

    Toby,

Sounds like you need more raw processing power of a good video card. True the onboard T&L on a GeForce card will help rendering capabilities, and push out more fps (frames per second).

However, I think for your rig you should just go get some risc based processors toss them in a system with a scsi raid array and a ton of ram and that would probably suffice. That would be better for number crunching over the video performance you will get from that Nvidia card.

I work in the IT field and have a huge variety of clients. Some are average home users, and others are huge companies. I think you should use your computer and your physics knowledge to research dim mak lol. Measure the impact, psi, penetration, etc of the strike. Then do a documentary on discovery channel

However, I guess you could not play Half-life 2 or Doom 3 unless you have a killer video card.

I just ordered my Asus KV8 motherboard and AMD64 3200+ processor. I will finally have a decent computer again. Since I work for a certified microsoft reseller and service center I will get a copy of their 64bit OS when it comes out next year.

The point is to use consumer hardware to achieve high performance. RISC processors aren't really consumer hardware. We've got some SGI and Sun machines here in the dept, but they're orders of magnitude more expensive than consumer hardware. Besides, a graphics card these days is a RISC SIMD machine anyway.

    Toby.

I don't want to make you look foolish, there's enough of that testosteronic jazz here already.but when it comes down to it, the only thing YOU have proven is that whenever Bl potss( or at least 70 % of the time), you know about it and are ready to argue...........how 'bout a little breathing space and you yourself provide some proof for a change instead ofthrowing off like running and informing this forum is MY job alone and I get paid to wear the BS............easy on soldier.........

Standard Eyebrows technique. "I'm not going to answer the question. You answer it yourself.". Please, make me look foolish. Post one thread where you postulated ideas that you supported with evidence and/or other people supporting your view.

Anyway, you asked for me to provide proof for a change . I'll let the readers decide for themselves who provides proof to back themselves up and who doesn't.

in the past yr there has been a great number of those.but in true spirit of imperfect human behaviour , that's what we focus n.it's contraversy we remember and discuss......I don't mind being contraversial if I can get a real debate aside from " u su*k lady"."you're wrong"."i'm prettier"."you're not even smart anyway"." oh AND ( NOT THAT i'VE EVER MET YOU or YOUR KID BUT ) YOU'RE A BAD MOmMY TO BOOT ..BLAH BLAH MOTHER FREAKIN BLAH.....do you really not understand why I don't respond to that????
