    Conditioning

I am interested in what you other folks do for conditioning. I would like to step up my conditioning level and get into better shape. I wont argue effectiveness of styles, but I have seen some schools that have way less material than ours, practice sparring a lot less often, but all of the students are in phenomenal shape. What is everyone doing out there? Some pre-competition workouts from the guys that fight in the ring would be cool, too!! Thanks everyone!

Thanks a lot for that link!! I love hsing ie...even if it is different from what the link had to show, but the information I was finding there is really insightful. Thanks, again! Then I found the forum. That was just the kind of stuff I was looking for.

I dont believe it...KFO finally paid off....

    Meat Shake-

Thanks...I think...I cant tell if you were trying to be a smart-a$$ or not. I do most of that, but the bag work and the jumping rope is something I need to get back into! I think the thing I am missing the most is someone to beat up on right now!! Thanks!

Heavy bag is important. It doesn't matter if you can punch hard if your wrist bends or breaks. I highly recommend Heavy Bag and Focus mit training.

    No troll.
Seriously. Bag work is wonderful. Work combos, then just go all out on it for rounds.
    Jump rope is great too.

    nothing beats just plain roadwork.

me, I do 2.5 - 3.0 miles (100+ stories) on a stairmaster 2 times a week. I try to maintain between a 7 and 8 mile and hour pace. varies depending on the day.

there is a difference between aerobic and anaerobic (sp?) conditioning though. I've recently seen a 17 year old dude that ran rings around me in stand up sparring not be able to go 2 minutes on the ground with someone close to his size.

best anaerobic conditioning is rolling and rolling and rolling and rolling and rolling and rolling and...well you get the point.

    Conditioning

Here in Louisville we do a lot of what has been mentioned. Push ups, crunches, partner bag work, heavy bag work, lots and lots of sparring. Dave Randolph is a great conditioning coach. He varies up the routines, and is always on the look out for new exercises to keep the classes fresh. A particularly tough total body workout some of you might find interesting is Kettlebells. Check the link below. Dave is very educated in the ways of the killer workout, despite the handicap of being an SD instructor.

I'm pretty sure it's from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
