[Food] Natural food to add to my workout

    Hi,

I'm wondering if everybody could add some natural ways to help the muscle building progress.

I like to stay away from thhat whey powder etc.. for my own reasons, call me stupid I won't blame you

So far I noticed, chicken and Tuna fish.

The tuna fish is ok, I can't eat chicken too often, max. ones every week. But the tuna ain't too great on my breath and sex-life
So maybe you guys could help me out with some alternatives, that I can afford, eat without cooking them etc...

    Thanks !

    [edit]
Also maybe what NOT too eat.

PS : I also include loads of water of course, forgot to mention that.

Obvious answers would be other meats like steak, turkey, etc. If you don't have time to cook, then you could always get cold cuts to put into sandwiches. Turkey would be the best option followed by chicken and then roast beef.

Tuna can get a little rank and the mecury and sodium-pyrophosphate in it would make me a little weary of od'ing on the stuff. A great alternative is canned salmon. It isn't as fishy but it is a little more expensive.

Lastly, you could do egg whites. Whole eggs would be good as well from organic and/or flax fortified chickens. Make yourself some eggsalad for sandwiches even....

Milk is a good "natural supplement". Depending on your goals, I'd recommend skim milk since drinking milk with fat in it can cause fat gain. Fruits and veggies are always a good addition, but fruit juices generally are not nor are soft drinks like coke, sprite, etc.

I wouldn't call you stupid, but why DO you stay away from whey powder? Most sports nutritionists highly recommend it.

    Just curious!

There are also many other protein powders out there that don't have whey.

Well I still live with my folks, and my father had a friend that did serious bodybuilding, but took all kinds of sjiet. By taking steroids he got a liver disease, which ended up in cancer, and death. So now when I bring home anything that enhances muscle growth etc.. (if you understand what I mean) they kinda freak out. I can understand it though, and I don't wanne bring up their bad memories everytime I bring something home that reminds them of that. I know it sounds waaay out there, but it JUST recently happened, so I'm not going to push the envelope here.

Why can you only eat chicken once a week? You don't like it much?

    Non meats

Soy beans, Soy milk, Tofu, Setan (Especially good almost 80 grams of protien Per a cup), Tempeh all these are excellent quick protien rich foods.

If you're getting your protein from non-meat sources, be sure to combine so that you get complete proteins. Things like corn with beans, etc. Most vegetable proteins are incomplete and need to be combined for the same kind of benefit as meat. Usually a large variety of non-meat proteins will do the trick.

I don't have the time to cook chicken every single day, once a week is enough already

Is the ham no good or what ?

Thanks for the useful replies, keep em coming, especially 'snacks' that don't take a lot or as little possible time to prepare.

I like a Hungarian salami -- cheese, tuna, peanut butter, sardines, are good protein snacks.

I get home at midnight most weekdays; I don't have time to cook anything every single day.

I usually just cook once or twice a week, and cook way, way more than I'm going to eat, and eat leftovers for the rest of the week.

"But the tuna ain't too great on my breath and sex-life "

tuna actually has chemicals in it that help blood flow to the genitals. Fish helps reduce risk of prostate cancer.

Ford - on the chicken and tuna thing, chicken is healthier, no? I thought that chicken = less fat, higher protein per serving.
    I may be wrong tho.

Ham is good, but its very high in sodium. Eggs are an excellent source of protein. Nuts are a good quick protein boost before the gym when you need a pick me up.
