wow, it's been a while since I've been on here and a while since we updated our site for the American Kung Fu Academy in Austin TX.... so we are hard at work coming up with a whole new site for you all. Here are a couple of links to get an idea of what we have been up to (these are large video links, high speed works best and they may take a bit to load. They work most the time )

    Hi Aaron

It's nice to see clips of 'good' chi sau instead of the flailing hands we sometime see.
    Nice work.

You're welcome. I saw the explanations your Sifu gave during his demonstrations so I sent the link to my students as well. I've witnessed some chi sau that was simply pushing, shoving., and flailing arms. It was refreshing to see some good chi sau in the clips you posted

just some pad drills nothing too exciting. Speed Punch Drill (conditioning is trained in this exercise, while power can be trained on the Sau Bou)

We are uploading our sparring and floor fighting and all that soon.

what was with the people letting themselves get chain punched?

also, do you ever chi sau at closer ranges?

no one is letting themselves get chain punched unless you mean the pad, it's called trapping and fan sau, you can see many times where the one being trapped get's loose and needs to be trapped again for a double fan sau. We do not use "human dummies" You are not used to seeing people get fan sau?

We train Chi Sau at all ranges but prefer the correct range which is detemined by the details in the forms we play.

Chum Kui Sau = long bridge chi sau
Biu Je Sau = close distance chi sau
Chung Chi Sau = high energy chi sau which quickly ends up in close range (when the line opens the hands and then the body rush in)

mabye it was just the camera angle, but quite often in the chi sau it seemed like the person doing the defending would just let their hands be covered and not try to regain the center. one person was on offense and the other on defense correct?

    hello,

nope my students like to take hits at me, we are both attacking but I play suppression chi sau mostly and don't give it them. There is quite a difference in the age of the kung fu: It's me with my students or my students working out with my kung fu brothers, etc. Chi Sau of people at equal level is boring 'cause nothing happens.

    thanks for the explanation,
it's nice to see a different approach now and then and unfortunatley not too many schools put their stuff online. none at school i go to have a digital recorder so no sharing on our part one of these days though...

    Thumbs up

    Vyvial,

I like most of the clips; I had not seen some of those combos before but the one in the basement is way too dark. Also, the video quality could be enhanced by using a smaller window size like 320x240.
