Wing Chun weapons

Does anyone actually train to fight with the weapons against others? I have seen the forms for both the stick and the swords but have never been shown any drills to fight with them. Does anyone even train that anymore?

my kwoon trains weapons, but only at very advanced levels. No way are you shown weapons until you are fully proficient in all forms and dummy, some five years down the road. I suspect that even then, sifu doesn't teach full weapons forms unless he's sure you are righteous and honorable - just my personal impression. :cool:

Sure he teaches the forms. I've seen the forms and had basic instruction in them, but does he do any fighting drills? Any free sparring?

yes, I have seen free sparring sessions amongst the instructor-level students. scary as hell :eek: :D

Yup, I "free-spar" (Chi Kwan and Chi Do) with some of my kung fu brothers. Fun stuff. I've got a pair of wooden Bot Cham Do that work real well to spar with - not as unforgiving on your kung fu brothers as metal ones.

There are alot of Chi Kwan "Sticky Pole" and Chi Do "Sticky Knife" drills that you can use to prepare you to fight with them.

Hey watchman. Where did you get your wooden knives? I have looked for training weapons on the web but couldn't find them. Did you make them yourself?

No, my sifu had about 10 pairs of them made to be shipped out to some of my kung fu brothers back east and overseas. I stopped by his house, saw the last pair sitting on his couch, threw some money at him and ran out the door before he could tell me I couldn't have them.

I'll ask him if he can have anymore made (or if knows where to get some more) and let you know.

I'm meeting with him tonight, so I'll see if they are still available.

And yes, if he can't get them I'll post a pic of mine. They wouldn't be too hard to make - just some plywood, a skillsaw, sandpaper, glue, and some elbow grease.

I'm wondering also, has anyone ever sparred another weapons practicioner with their wing chun weapons? Kenjutsu? Kali? Fencers?

i have heard that the weapons forms make your open hand wc better. if this is so how much? i don't want to appear ignorant, but on the street, which is what im interested in mainly, i wil not have some butterfly knifes with me. i do love "wing chun" but if i was at the level of learning the weapons, i'd rather do chi sau, or maybe partner work or spar.

obiously i'd love to learn them, but i don't see their application in the modern world. but i don't want that part of the art to be phased out.

oh well, i don't have to worry about it, im not anywhere near that stage anyway.

Sharky, the reason I'm interested in weapons is because I have a friend who does Aiki-Jutsu. I have limited experience with this, but I know that when we get out the wooden tantos I get shredded with my wing chun (Sticking doesn't really work with knives) while he has learned to pick up anything and fight with it.
