"Steal to Open from Bottom, Leak a Circle Strike"

In the Mother form, Fen Shen Ba Zhou (Divide the Body into Eight Elbows) there is a movement known as, 右 打 滾 龙 肘 - yòu dǎ gǔn lóng zhǒu - "Right Strike Rolling Dragon Elbow". It appears in sections one and three of the form

Here is a description of how it works in section one: If the enemy strikes at my chest with his lead right fist, I block his arm at the forearm with my left palm, sweep the back of his legs with my left leg and strike his neck with my right forearm to topple him.

This technique was later altered slightly and sown into the Hao family Son forms, Zhai Yao Quan and Tanglang Chu Dong. It was renamed, 偷 展 底 漏 圈 - tōu zhǎn dǐ lòu quān – "Steal to Open from Bottom, Leak a Circle Strike". In the Son forms, the rising, sweeping kick to the knees is replaced by a low sweep at ankle height. However, the circular strike to the neck with the rear arm remains the same. In class last week, I was revisiting this technique with my disciple, John Spolarich. The question arose, “What do we do if this technique fails?”. So, I showed him how to move from this technique into a waist chop with the right palm.

    Thus, this video was born.
