If you think ANYONE is fighting in MMA without cross training in different styles you are mistaken.

So are you saying that HKD cannot beat BJJ without crosstraining?

It did look like the BJJ guy was injured before the fight, but he really should have tried to fight back a little more than he did. Not a good day for BJJ!

Karo Parisan is trained by Gokor and is certainly very skilled in judo & sambo but also trains his standup abilites..

seriously kids.. You'd have to be an idiot to walk out into today's talent pool with only one dimension in your fight game. Even the best grapplers train standup boxing or muay thai and the strikers train wrestling and enough bjj to L&P.

I think a style of martial arts that does not cover all the ranges is limited. So if your teacher only teaches ground fighting, kicking, punching, or strictly forms, then you are missing out on a complete art. I think this is why people feel the need to crosstrain because the system they train in is limited and does not cover the whole range. But to cross traing for the UFC, I think if one has reached a level of competency in their choosen art, they can make it work in any situation. But, that said, I think crosstraining for a fight like taht would involve sparring, using your choosen theory of fightin, against different people who use different approaches and sticking to what you've been taught. This probably takes a long time to develop.

A non-MMA guy beating a MMA guy doesn't neccessarily prove anything.

Many non-MMA guys being many MMA guys might prove something.

A number of Hapkido instructors and their students here cross train in BJJ. One of them came 2nd in the Machado BJJ nationals recently.

Why not crosstrain? What is there to be afraid of? Learning something new?
