I don't. Sometimes I do the bodybuilding poses for fun. Those are technically isometrics, right?

Oh wait maybe they're not. Aren't isometrics when you push or pull against a non-moving object, like a wall, or a barbell that is locked in a rack?

"Isometrics" and static "dynamic tension" are different, aren't they?

Isometrics are where the muscles tense without changing their length.

So basically anything exercise that is static. Tensing exercises count, unless there is movement.

Later on in my training, I would like to try the old Bill March isometric program. Not right now cos my lifts are too low to merit using any kind of special program.

Right, as Arnold Schwarzennegger says,"posing is exercise" and posing is the basis of Joe Weider's principle of "isotension"

I do a few basic gymnastics body positions.

Posing is exercise, but if you remember, Arnold says you have to scream as you do it.

Arnold also says "Every time I lift, I am cahmming all zee time!", which has been my experience as well. Since Isometrics don't result in orgasms they must be inferior.

All power comes from your mind. Mind moves body. If pumping make Arnold come and isometrics don't do that for you -the problem is in your mind.

No no, I'm pretty sure there's a difference between contracting against your own muscle force like dynamic tension vs. contracting against an immovable force.

You're probably right that there is a difference, but it is still isometric in nature if there is no movement.

    Right?
