    Cirque Du Soleil martial dance...

Anyone catch that on Leno just now? Looks like it combined wushu, capeora, Chinese opera and some other stuff into a really beautiful performance "fight scene"... Anyway, just thought I'd say that it was pretty cool

I saw it last night. All wushu with some capoeira and some other mish-mash. Good stuff, but it makes me think the Cirque people are running out of material, so they decided to throw some MA into it. Nice to see it in mainstream media, though.

Cirque is becoming the mcdonalds of stage shows.

Each show is starting to look like the last. lol

All new show, with same guy in tights in the wheel of motion and bungee tarts flitting about.

But this time...there's midgets with battle axes! Only 100$

    snore.

    KA

I was at the Gala Premeire of KA last week. I mentioned it on a thread on our Shaolin forum. KA stars several wushu champions, the Haight sisters, two members of the Beijing Wushu Team, and a few others. We got a call from the Haights about their Leno appearance, but I was sick yesterday with a 24 hour bug, so I missed it. It's great to see CMA somewhere else other than the tournaments and movies.

Well, I've never seen one of their performances, so it was new to me

The choreography was lacking I thought. It looked pretty sloppy at over done at points, maybe that's all part of thier special cheesy fromage queso fondue dip.

and red is our resident schlemiel.

my point is this, if you've seen one cirque, you've basically seen em all. The addition of martial arts is a temporary twist and they are performance or theatre type martial arts, which is as old and varied a show as any.

so forgive my tainted and jaded view. I prefer comedy.

I think it's funny how quickly even a harmless Cirque du Soleil thread can start to derail into a flame war complete with personal attacks

    Isn't the internet great?

I have to agree with KL, I've seen three cirques now (not including the bit from last night), and they are all pretty much the same thing, which makes me wonder, are we the only ones who realize this? Or are there really that many people who have never seen or heard anything like it?
