    Walking in the mall

So I was in Las Vegas for western vet conference over the last weekend.

    It was raining everyday.

I noticed some people walking in the shopping area and the hallway towards the convention center in Mandalay Bay casino/hotel.

Then I recalled, I used to get to the Mall and get some coffee early in the morning, and I also saw old people walking in the mall as a form of exercise.

Apparently, this is widely practiced across the country.

I can understand that if it is cold or raining outside.

But the air is stale with the stuff or clothing in the store.

I would rather pick an open air space to walk or practice Tai Ji preferably a park with trails.

    What do you guys think?

Well, there are several advantages for the old timers. Firstly is the protection from the elements, so they can walk rain, hail or shine. Secondly it is an environment that provides a nice, even surface so that falls are less likely.

He calls me. Take me to him.

Yes and no. The health conserns of the elderly are sometimes very restrictive for them. My ex father-in-law passed away because of complications from heat injury on a day that was only in the mid 80s with lots of sunshine and a lovely brease. Also, if many of the people you know go to the mall to walk, wouldn't you go there as well, simply so you can enjoy thier company?

Some have kidney desease and can't handle much direct sun. They also don't recommend too much sun for elderly diabetics because they burn easily and don't recover well or very fast. Even a small amount of smog can kill someone who needs a ventilator. 'S one of the unfortunate facts of living in large cities, I'm afraid.

And don't forget the whole need to be near a toilet thing that takes up a lot of old folk's planning.
