    Xin Yi Ba

In the latest issue of KFTC, there are several references to the secret style of Shaolin Xin Yi Ba (heart and mind method) After doing a web search, I found there is almost no info whatsoever on this style. Dose any one out there know any thing about this style. Why is this style so special, thay among all the different styles of shaolin taught at the Shaolin Temple, the monks decided to keep this dtyle secret?

    Xin yi thread

There's another thread on xin yi here. Xin Yi Ba is well known in Songshan Shaolin circles, so I imagine there's a VCD or too out there, but Shi Dejian claims to have a special sect of Xin Yi Ba. I've been discussing bringing more out with some of his students, but the process has been slow. We'll see.

All of the videos on shaolindj.com work except a few. I was very impressed with Dejian's agility. He practices the standard shaolin forms in a very unstandard way. It reminds of the way Chenying moves when practicing
Shaolin Liuhe Chuan and Ziranmen. Very interesting movement.

I practise Chen myself and I totally agree! He moves in a Chen way. Shi Dejian is known to have trained in Chen Taiji under Chen Zhaopi.

Yes he has Chen taiji type style in his movement but I meant Chen Ying, the Shaolin 6 harmony master in NYC. 6 harmony style or liuhemen chuan has absorbed the characteristics of shaolin temple style, zingyi and bagua. It's like the common shaolin style but with movements more like from internal styles. This is more qigong training that is geared toward fighting training.

What I like about the xingyi ba is that movements have more intricate expanding and contracting in a very continuos way. Rather than the typical 1, 2, 3, rigid way of moving.

Shaolin like Chen or Chen like Shaolin?

A lot of the internal temple monks move more like you see with Dejian. As we've discussed here before, the inner temple regimen is different then what most of us see outside. Basic forms like Xiaohong take on a completely different flavor. Same moves (although the internal temple version of Xiaohong has a different pu bu movement) but the energy is very different.

    Gene,

I sense an article topic developing. Maybe an interview with Master Chenying?

We've talked a lot in the forums about the differences in steps in the shaolin temple forms. For example the differences between the way one monk might structure Xiao Hong Chuan. It would be interesting to compare more of the style of the same forms and why they would move that way. For instance I know Lipeng's movement is heavily influenced by his Chen taiji training and teaching. He believes that the traditional shaolin movement should be more like taiji in style.
