    USAWKF Details?

    How official is the USAWKF?
(United States of America Wushu-KungFu Federation . INC)

I noticed that they have some products on MartialArtsMart.com . . . and since they are our sponsor, I was wondering if anyone could tell me more bout this organization

In the future I would like to watch and maybe join tuornaments. . . so I wanted to know if the USAWKF still holds events? Their website (http://usawkf.org/home.htm) seems out of date.

    Thanks

Chester Copperpot went looking for one of those elusive USAWKF tournaments. He hasn't been seen or heard of for some time. It's beleived he was taken by the ghost of "San Shou" which died inside of USAWKF. Learning the truffle shuffle may help in your quest.

    nice Goonies reference
What would happen if a year-old baby fell from a fourth-floor window onto the head of a burly truck driver, standing on the sidewalk?
It's practically certain that the truckman would be knocked unconscious. He might die of brain concussion or a broken neck.
Even an innocent little baby can become a dangerous missile WHEN ITS BODY-WEIGHT IS SET INTO FAST MOTION.

forms, full contact or light contact?

    Forms and Sparing.

I am guessing light contact at first since I am new? I am not sure.
Something local to the east coast would be cool, but I am willing to travel

USAWKF has hosted some tournaments here in the TX/OK area. Although nothing in 2008 however. They seem to be active in sending a team to international Wushu Tournaments.

As as far as tournaments are concerned, depending on what part of the country you live in, you would have the following.

in April you have the Great Lakes tourney in Cleveland, I've been to that 3 times and it's run very well...the link is last years, i guess they haven't gotten the new info up for this year yet.

close to you this summer will be the USCKF ...i think that's right, US Chinese Kuoshou Federation???) nationals...i've never been but i understand it's pretty large.

sometime in the summer will also be the tournament put on by Sifu Wong in DC

that's all i got, i'm sure there are more, check here:

as far as light contact vs. full contact... it all depends on what you are being trained for...i wouldn't do full contact unless you have someone training you for it...though, of the three i gave, only the Cleveland event has san shou.... whichever the event, learn the rules and practice for the rules....but, light contact is still a waste of time, imho.

oh, and north of you lkfmdc has events every couple of months but they are full contact only...and again, you need someone training you for it who knows what they are doing.

Thank you for all the information Oso. I will look into the links you provided.

One more quick question. Since different schools have different forms… how do they judge forms? Just on stances /speed/power and so on?

Thanks again this thread has really been helpful.

some of us have heard of WKF and used to compete in, and even work for WKF. If your goal is to compete in wushu at the IWuF worlds, then follow up on USAWKF, they are the recognized U.S. representative by the IWuF. Sifu Goh is the President, he has a school in Maryland close to or in Baltimore, if there is no contact info on the WKF home page, you can probably get some info there.

If you want to compete in divisions labeled traditional, particularly traditional sourthern, or short-hand, you have other open tournaments to checkout. Some have already been listed. Some others of note are Taiji Legacy in texas, although it seems to be year-to-year whether or not Sifu Wong will actually hold it, Sifu Lily Lau holds eagle cup tournaments fairly yearly, Five Tiger's tournament yearly in Maryland hosted by Sifu Derek Johnson, Wong's Jow Ga holds a tournament every year in Washington D.C., Wong Fe Hung Hall of Fame tournament in New York, to name a few on or near the east coast, there are several on the west coast throughout the year as well, but I am not as familiar with them.

The USAWKF is the organization responsible for pretty much ruining the entire TCMA scene in the US, and destroying Sanshou in particular

(did I just say that out loud?)

ah, I know nothing about their history. Why do you say this?
