    2005 sanda vs karate comp

Kyokushin Karate sent another delegation to china to fight under modified sanda rules.

This time, they brought an all Russian team as opposed to the All Japanese team that was sent last time.

same results 5-0, China's sanda team won again.

to be fair, the chinese team was basically pro-fighters from China now de-funct Sanda Wang circuit and fighters produced under China's sport system. While the Russian team was made up of amateur college age karate fighters.

this is the pre-fight coverage in the chinese media.

    What a surprise!

Don't see many sanda fighters winning K1... they should put some forward, since athlete level kyokushin fighters regularly win that under many rules, and kyokushin-based fighters regularly do well at Pride and shooto...

And yet the only sanda fighters I've seen over here in shooto have been schooled or robbed on decisions... not exactly unpredictable.

What were the rules? It says modified... how?

The san Da wang guys prefer to fight with kicks, punches and throws... the "modify" the rules depending upon who they are fighting... ie with the Thais they agreed to knees and elbows also.... with the Kyokushinkai guys the face punching was a "modification" to what they are used to, etc

The Chinese san da guys are very good, but limited in their world view. They rely a lot on their throws, and their knees are really bad. That is why in thinks like K-1 they haven't done too well. They have done ok in Shootboxing from what I have seen, based upon throws and outside fight (ie side kick)... funny how few Muay Thai guys know what to do with a side kick STILL!

There are exceptions, the last China vs Thai challenge had san da gusy throwing elbows and cutting thais, even KO'ing one, the Thais were stunned....

oo, I love San Da, and I love China, but most of those san da wong fights are so unfair. I doubt anyone would really do very well unless those fights are fought in another neutral country.

But its still good fighting, and san da is still my fave fighting sport :-)

Is there any clips of the fights?

Also do they hold shaui chaoi comps in the U.S?

    modified rule being

as oppose to awarding 2.0 point for a throw, only 0.5 point is awarded.

I can't find any english coverage of this comp. beside those pre-fight story in the Chinese papers published in English.

This is the fight coverage in simplified chinese.

The Japanese and Russians were all professionals. The star of the Russian team was touted as Putin's personal bodyguard.

Here's a clip of the earlier Sanda vs. Japan fight:

I hate crane69 and think he's a jerk, but even his coverage said that the Chinese simply outclassed the Russians

    http://crane.50megs.com/index6zh.mht

He lists the accomplishments of the Russians, they were not easy pickings, but they lost on kicks and punches, not even the Chinese strength!!!!

I know crane69 in person and I can say that he has been getting alot of bad rep here in our country about his comments.

Although his views have been biased and somewhat lopesided which I too disagree many times, he is really expressing what he feels without any intention of hurting people's feelings.
