One time I went to a TKD tournament... I was waiting for a bus and it was in the same building as the bus stop.

I was watching the TKDers fighting and they had their hands at their waste and were just going kick kick kick.

It was all I could do to contain shouts of "PUNCH EM IN THE HEAD!!!"

I know the water is under the bridge already, but I've made it a practice for many years now, never to mention that I study martial arts. It's an unneceassy piece of information as far as I'm concerned and it usually leads to more problems than not - as you have found out. This infromation is on a need-to-know basis only. Just like you don't tell your buddies how much you're paid. Odds are, depending on the their situation, they will either be laughing at you, or jealous. Neither option seems too appealing, and it's totally unnecessary.

As for TKD guys, I was a TKD guy for 6 years or so.
From my experience, kung fu has it all over TKD.

Haven't read the whole thread, but throwing in my two cents:

You can offer to have a spar with them. If you're all trained martial artists, you should be able to have a good sparring session that will prove the worth of your art to them without anyone getting bloody.

Read the whole thread Anton. He tried a bit of playing and their tactic switchet to "well our best students can beat any Gongfu guy anywhere". I'd like them to send their best up Shanxi way. I need a sparring match, I'm getting ornery for lack of anyone to hit. The heavy bag just ain't the same.

One thing you can try is just agree with them. If you know what you do is better then don't worry about it and just let them win the talking match and move on.

Dam nit... it made sense when it was running through my head.
