Thread: Is there a Northern Dragon style?

Is there a Northern Dragon style?

I am aware of the Lung Ying system from Southern China, but is there such a thing as a Northern Dragon style? (Not just a form designated as a "Dragon" form, but an entire Northern system.)

    There is the following systems:

    North
    Hebei Qinglong (Dragon) quan
    Hebei Panlong (Dragon) quan

    South
    Fujian Longzhuang (Dragon) quan
    Guangdong Dongjiang Longxing (Dragon) quan

and some more but there are some examples.

    SM,

Do you know what, if any, connections exist between the Northern Dragon and the Southern Lung Ying?

There is also a branch of shaolin called the thirteen grabs (shisanzhua).
It is a dragon system. The movements are fast and light, like a dragon in the sea or clouds, and the hand formation is the dragon claw, sort of like a relaxed eagle claw. Almost all stances are 6/4 stances.
The first form contains 13 lines, thus the name. The second has less lines, and moves in four directions. The third is a partner form. A cool and unusual style!

Urm.... It was shot a while back, so it's pretty sloppy...... but that is the form.

I only did 8 of the thirteen lines in this demo.

So this is a form from a complete system based on northern dragon or dragon movements? Thanks Bill

Shisanzhua is not a system but are actually only a set of three forms (Single, 4 Doors and Combined which are based on 13 shapes of which dragon is one) of the Shaolin system that was passed down by our Great grandmaster Yang Xiushan. Some other sets include Hong quan, Luohan quan, Jing gang quan etc...

The clip shown seems (though performed sloppy as mentioned) is a section of the single Shisanzhua.

    Kind Regards
