    Cracked shin? Normal?

anyone else ever have a problem of getting a cracked shin and internal bone bruising on their legs? I have permenant damage because of repeated hitting. My instructor told me it was normal.... I somehow doubt that.

What the heck were you doing?
What would happen if a year-old baby fell from a fourth-floor window onto the head of a burly truck driver, standing on the sidewalk?
It's practically certain that the truckman would be knocked unconscious. He might die of brain concussion or a broken neck.

    Holy flying batman.
    Go see a doctor!

Usually with moderation and good message, this shouldn't happen when you are doing conditioning. Sounds like you are trying to progress way too fast.

    Cracked shins are not normal.

What are you hitting with your shin?

I think we need some clarification.

If you prop a stick up and hit it hard with another stick or a piece of metal you may not actually break the stick but you will probably put a mark on the stick. I think this is what you are talking about. In other words getting hit hard enough to damage the shin bone but not actually break the bone......Is this what you are talking about?

When I was a teen I wasn't wearing shin pads and caught a hockey puck on the shin. It took forever to get over it and to this day it I make an effort to search for the spot I can feel a little rough spot on the bone.

small fractures in the shin aren't that uncommon, from what I hear. I think it happens more than we realize. I fought with a fracture in my shin and had no clue that it was fractured. The doc later put me in a boot for 8 weeks. I wouldn't say it's "normal", but yeah, it does happen. I know that my shin is not fully healed, but I have no problems kicking with it unless kicking something hard - another persons shins, the lower part of a heavy bag, etc. - for prolonged periods of time.

What kind of training does your teacher have you doing?

Ah if it's sparring, that's more understandable. Was thinking it was some sort of shin "toughening" drill.

Yah I got a huge knot on my left shin that I've had almost 2 years. I think I probably fractured it coz i think originally it felt more like a crater in my shin. The time I've taken off from kicking has helped heal it and reduce the size of the knot, but it'll probly never heal completely.

I find that Thai liniment works better than dit da jow from personal experience.
Different strokes for different folks tho.
