Not as OT as one might think...

How many forum members does it take to change a light bulb?

1 to change the light bulb.

1 to post that the light bulb has been changed.

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the
light bulb could have been changed differently.

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs.

27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light
    bulbs.

53 to flame the spell checkers.

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb"
    ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive.

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is
    "lamp".

15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light
    bulb" is perfectly correct.

156 to email the participant's ISPs complaining that they are in
violation of their "acceptable use policy".

109 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please
take this discussion to a lightbulb forum.

203 to demand that cross posting to hardware forum, off-topic forum,
and lightbulb forum about changing light bulbs be stopped.

111 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light
bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum.

306 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where
to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this
technique and what brands are faulty.

27 to post URLs where one can see examples of different light bulbs.

14 to post that the URLs were posted incorrectly and then post the
    corrected URLs.

27 to post about links they found from the URLs that are relevant to
this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group.

33 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including
all headers and signatures, and add "Me too".
12 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they
cannot handle the light bulb controversy.

19 to quote the "Me too's" to say "Me three".

4 to suggest that posters request the light bulb FAQ.

44 to ask what is a "FAQ"?

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

143 to say "do a search on 'light bulbs' before posting questions
    about light bulbs".

1 new forum member to respond to the original post 6 months from now
and to start it all over again.

I think you forgot a bunch of things, like somebody to say it's sexist or somebody to say it's secret or somebody to say it's slander or somebody to say they have the DVD for sale ... etc.

that is about summing up all the forums on the net.
    Some more than others.

    You forgot about the

1 to ask where the light in a lightbulb comes from. And is it ok to use two different brands of lightbulbs throughout a house or stick with one brand. Also asks for a tutorial on the right way to change the lightbulb, even though it's most likely been mentioned.

1 to state that everyone in the thread are idiots for arguing/posting about this issue on an internet forum in the first place.

1 to state the deadly diseases that can be contracted from what the lightbulb is made out of as well as anything transfered from people who've handled it before them. Then claim they are done with changing lightbulbs.

2 to post random links to flashlight and lantern sites with no explanation given.

Some might be related to a specific forum more than others.

Those that are the most sucessful are also the biggest failures. The difference between them and the rest of the failures is they keep getting up over and over again, until they finally succeed.

    Call me old fashion.

I just go to Wal-mart or home depot to get bulbs I need.

instead of checking internet listing or related forums.

I think on the Kung Fu board you'll find people arguing that it's NOT the way lightbulbs were changed 400 years ago.

Also you will find people arging about who and the technique used to change the lightbulb before.

Finally you will have people who are not changing the "Real" light bulb!

    hilarious...well done, Becca.

1 guy to post an add for a DVD / seminar about authentic light bulb changing

6 guys to tell him ot to hawk his wares on the forum

1 moderator to tell him to post in the calendar section

1 guy to decry how, whereas in the good old days no one charged to teach light bulb changing, now everone is just out for a buck

13 guys (including 4 light bulb changing school owners) to exhaustively outline and describe the reality of running a light bulb changing school these days, and how whereas in the good old days changing a light bulb was a matter of life and death, now people do it mostly just for the fun of it, and don't really need to change light bulbs for real anyway

5 ight bulb changing purists who insist that the way they change light bulbs is exactly the way it was done 10,000 years ago, and that they still change light bulbs for real all the time, and that the whole idea of light bulb changing competitions has changed the whole wayinwhich light bulbs are changed anyway: in the old days they did it with their bare hands with the bulb hot and the current running, and that they didn't so much unscrew the bulb, they just bit down hard and ate it, removing the rest of it from the socket with their tongues, and ya liked it! and how using gloves to remove a room temperature light bulb with the current off has weakened the whole art anyway etc. etc. etc.

8 guys from other forums to post links to research studies proving that modern day light bulb changing technique enables people to do it faster and quicker and in less time than it used to take, and that the art of mixed bulb changing is much better than the old style of just changing one type of bulb for 35 years, especially one that never really was stuck or resisted being changed in the first place
