    Inevitable criticism...

    But it is constructive:

That looked good as a bit of an eye opener and it looked a lot of fun!

    Couple of points:

    1) Too little striking back!

    2) Keeping your head down and covering is a good idea, but means you can't look for an out...

    3) And if your bros were coming in with kicks, or yep, just one of them with simple takedown attempts or sweeps (believe me, with mob-handed attacks there's always at least one who'll just go for kicking your legs in) that kind of blind covering and low bent-over position will literally get your head kicked in.

    4) Some kind of guard where you can still keep your eye out would be more useful and a lot more ducking and weaving training.

Just a couple of ideas from real-life experience and lots of these kind of kwoon/dojo/gym simulations.

Those are fun. We had a guy who was very creative with the calls. Things like you, protect him, from those 4 guys. He'd also start 1 on 1 and then start adding people to the mix. Also a great cardio workout.

The crap that many schools do is not the crap I was taught or train in or teach.

Dam nit... it made sense when it was running through my head.

Okay, the new defense against punching is to stick your head down and your hands over your head?

That's what they're teaching in MMA class these days?

Well guys, I was trying to be constructive: yeah, it was pretty ****, but is that the best advice you've got?

Honestly, I don't know what to say. I'd talk about how my old sifu used to do it, but I tried that before on another forum but based on their feedback they didn't believe it and they gave a lot of flak. So ... whatever.

Since in that situation any real defense would involve seriously hurting people until you were down to a manageable number like 0, These exercises usually consist of moving out of the way, trying to line your opponents up, or bottle necking them in a enclosed space, and running the f@ck away.

Doing nothing to try to defend yourself is not good training.

Were they practicing self defense or just horsing around? To me it looked like a bit of rough housing just for fun.

Fred, What's going on in the video?

Seems kind of pointless because you're not really working on any technique. What is the end goal? To get away? To take down your opponents?

With that many attackers it seems like it would be to get away.

BTW, I've been in a brawl where I had 3 guys jump on me at once (after I'd been smacked upside the head with a beer bottle!). The natural strategy is to duck and cover and most of the time it works. However, you've got to get out of the situation pretty fast or someone will take you to the ground and that's definitely where you don't want to be.

Fortunately, in my case the bouncers stepped in and broke it up.
