Mexico - Ng Ga Kuen - Tigre Negro A.C.

Kung Fu is very popular in Mexico; they put a lot of effort and dedication into their practice. Here is some videos of Tigre Negro Ng Ga Kuen ( 5 Family / Animals) in Mexico 2002.

Pressure / creativity / free spirit test: on the spot, make up a short form using random moves from different forms in front of everybody; show applications from forms. It is done without prior rehearsing.

Kung Fu training equipments is hard to come by in most cities of Mexico. Makeshifts is one way to go; here is “Skinny Metal Dummy Tecs

Here is one of their favorite forms (southern & northern mixed)

    Thanks you Seming!
It looks like everyone is taking a "Digestive nap" on this thread... or maybe meditating on what we saw?
I know nothing about KF competitions. Would this be an OK place to ask about what is envolved and what the rules are?

    Cambrais,
Your question is too broad and should ask in a new thread. anyway, I'l start with a list of the events in a bigger scale kung fu tournament. Anyone, feel free to jump in any time.

Tradition kung fu forms, internal style, wu shu, showmanship, weapon, chi siu, push hand, lion dance, sparring…..etc.

I think rules vary from tournament to tournament; probably the same principle in judging forms, such as presentation, speed, balance, power, focus, intention… using a scale from 0 – 10 ( with decimal points ). Sparring may be continuous or point system, usually no take downs, chin na, sweeps, elbow blocks/hits, joint break; striking to eyes, throat, spine; no “blind techniques” and excessive “striking force”…. btw, for safety reason, wearing protective gears usually is mandatory in USA. Besides using the belt system, kung fu tournament also use 1 to 2 years is beginner, 2 to 4 years is intermediate, 4 and above is advance.

There are much more to tournament rules and its pro and con; I'll let others fill in the rest.

    Very Quiet here

Ng ga kuen or the five families style incorporate the (Fut,hung, choy,li and mok)
but also the five animals(Tiger, leopard, crane, snake and dragon)....the number 5
is very popular in southern style....Does the five Elements (Wood, metal, fire, water and earth) have a relation with the 5 families or five animals ....or its just a concept used in InternalMa like the Hsing I Chuan and Traditionnal chinese medecine

    Merry X-Mas Happy New Year

First, I want to wish all my Kung Fu Brothers and Sisters a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! One thing I was again reminded of this year is that Truth and Personal Honor keeps our Family strong. I am honored as always to be apart of our Ng Ga Kuen Family. I've been going threw some old videos that were in the old trunk and I found this video of my 3 sons doing the Butterfly Knife form at our 1999 Reunion. In the first videos I posted Joshua was 7 years old, in this video he is 18, my 2nd son Jerrod is 15 and #3 son Justin is 9 years old. Good Luck To All In the New Year and Beyond... Thank you George ! I'd like to wish the same to all our Family , as spread out as we are. I know GM Wong is smiling, knowing that he has brought us all together, whether we are smiling or arguing, doesn't matter ! Sometimes the controversy keeps us alert.
Happy New Year to Everyone !

    Kung Fu Kids

Diego My two oldest sons were 4 & 6 years old when we went back to Daly st. school full time [6 days a week at least 3 to 4 hours a day] so they had no choice but to train [thankfully they liked it] my third son and daughter were born into the system. The boys would get in trouble if they goofed around during class especially when I was teaching. [They had great Horse stances] NGK.G.S
