well, neither he nor I have moderation powers on the main board so it's a bit moot that we are 'policing' it at all. The basic faux paus is that the onus is on the poster to at least do a cursory search of the forums to see if the subject has been discussed before and either become informed via previous posting or add to the discussion via a previous thread. The subject HAS been discussed many times before and rather recently in fact. However, a lot of subjects get rehashed via a new thread by a new poster so, to me, it's not a big deal.

Being told to keep quiet (paraphrase) by members has no bearing. It is not the first nor the last time where people have disagreed with me. However, when a Moderator was the first to 'cast the stone', I was a bit taken back because it was something I didn't expect from a person in that position. And there was no explanation as to why such a suggestion would garner such tremendous opposition. All the members who piggy-backed off his quote don't have merit because there was no attempt at a counter or exactly why they did not agree with my suggestion. Or just that the were trying (keyword) to bust the chops of the new member...?

i dunno, you'll have to ask them

It is not that I was wasting time clicking on OTs. Like I said before, I think some of them are very humorous (ie RD's venture into a ditch). Someone who is fairly new here would find it a bit strange that OTs keep popping up in a forum designated for a specific topic.

not if they spent some time researching the forums

RD was polite enough to explain that the kung fu forum is also the OT one and you clarified even more that this subject (of trying to enact a special OT forum) has already been discussed before I made my appearance here...which is the sentiment that I get from both of you. Well, it goes to show what a little courtesy and politeness will accomplish.

PS*I would still be interested in what Gene has to say about this...(OT?)
about what? your question of an OT forum or MK's response?

FTR, it was Gene that declared that there would not be an OT forum and that given the wide variety of other forums that are policed to stay very on-topic then the main forum would function well enough as the 'lounge' area and barring porn and challenges...anthing goes.

"If you find the right balance between desperation and fear you can make people believe anything"

"Is enlightenment even possible? Or, did I drive by it like a missed exit?"

    It's simpler than you think.

well, not really...I know I can't through a day and feel good about myself without at least one good challenge and some decent porn.

    newbie guy,

You just started, do you not think your suggestion would have been made before.

As it turns out a majority of the regulars here regularly post ot stuff in the kungfu forum.

This forum has been fine for a long time, and when a newbie who does not know the regulars, how we operate, or have a feel for the way the board has been (for years) comes along with a suggestion, in a public forum (rather than sending Gene a private message, or at least putting it on the magazine/website subforum) you're going to get jumped on.

You are free to post something that will get you jumped on, I'm a mod also.

You can post what you feel, you can post what you think, but that doesn't mean you wont get a harsh response, especially when you give us a newbie suggestion like this.
    Bless you

This forum is a very good place...most of the time. My compliments on keeping things in order.

Now, the reason I am writing is about the different subtopics that you have here. All are related to Kung Fu (yes because this is a KMF) and all the categories are very inclusive. However, I've noticed recently that there are a lot of "OT" posts in the Kung Fu Forum. I'm guessing that is because that is THE place where there are the most viewers and posters.

You have everything divided very nicely, even a neat little spot for non-Chinese martial arts and media. So, my question is why not have a category solely for "OT's." It would be a place to chat about non-kung fu or non-TCMA and for people to just rant or tell about what happened to them (anecdotes can be entertaining). RD's Alias talked about driving into a ditch (it was the last thing that I remember that was off topic). It was very humorous but stuff like that should be in a separate category. If people want to tell of encounters with women at a bar, then the open topic lounge would be a good place for that (just a hypothetical example) or some Youtube clip that is unrelated to martial arts.

Of course, this is only a suggestion. It would further serve as a venue to organize all the random stuff that people tend to post. I hope that the main idea is clear.

So Gene, do you think that is a viable option that you could make happen here?

    Thanks for your time.

PS...This post is intended solely for the designated recipient.

    stfu

martial artist have better things to do than talk about martial arts! god what a boring subject

we come here to talk about

    women
the rights and wrongs of voting for so and so
why eating meat is right or wrong
why iam so god **** awesome
    fights we've been in
    women
    money
    crime
    the state of the economy
    chan tai san
    mma vs cma
who saw the fight last night ?

    etccccc

talking about the various ways of kicking/punching/stabbing someone gets old FAST

there are way more interesting topics
most that relate to martial arts that are interesting at all are more to do with our experiences in the martial arts than merely what they are

    so stfu
the kung fu forum is the heart of this place and to change it as u suggested would simply make it suck

Hello 冠木侍 - sorry it took me a bit to respond

I've merged your thread to an earlier one of the same topic. Unfortunately, that earlier one lacks a solid answer since it was really in the wake of our MMA forum launch, so let me direct your attention to the why is there no contemporary wushu forum ? thread which is one of our longest 'new forum' threads.

Given my personal choice, it would all be one giant forum with no distinctions. We'd let the better threads rise to the top in a truly democratic fashion. Of course, we'd surely only wind up with pornographic flame wars, but such is democracy in action. At some point, we may well introduce a few new forums, but right now, our attention is devoted to updating our commerce websites, www.MartialArtsMart.com and www.TigerClaw.com. Got to pay some bills, don't you know...

Which reminds me, we are working on changing our forum host. We may be down for a short spell when that happens. I'll make a general announcement soon, if this is impending.

I was thinking more along the lines of Mcnulty and Bunk from "The Wire"

I get to be Mcnulty because he can hold his liquor better than Bunk and has a better shot of getting with Kima before it's all over...that's one hot woman, i don't care what team she plays for on TV.
