Our particular style of Longfist is called 'Extended Arm Boxing' (Tong bei Chuan) and is approximately 2,500 years old. Its origins lie in the mountainous areas of north China. As a Hakka style, it contains major elements of both Ying Jow (Eagle Claw), and Tong Long (Praying Mantis). As a style, it pre-dates the arrival of Buddhism in China by nearly a thousand years. It has since however, been practiced in Buddhist monasteries and has become associated with Northern Shaolin Gungfu. It advocates long range kicking and punching, leading to a mastery of medium and short-range fighting skills. It is renowned for its fluid footwork and power-hitting. External qicong (tough body conditioning) hardens muscle and bone, as well as develops a strong mind. Sparring in this style has no padding.

I don't really like it, but that's just me. He's not really "working" the bag - not moving around it, his strikes are all at the same level, none high, none low, his hands are really low and his some of his hooking punches arc too much - there is a wind up in them. When I work a bag, I try to treat it like I am fighting - head movement, varied punches, footwork around the bag, etc. - unless I am trying to focus on a specific technique.

At first I thought he was doing a slower tempo punch out style or blitzing drill because of the lack of footwork.

Here is an example of a good punch out or blitz style drill.

I think it's kinda shoddy too but didn't want to pre-empt anyone's opinion.
The guy claims from his website that he's a sifu and got lots of years of training.

I hadn't really put my finger on some of the reasons why I didn't like it so thought I'd ask some other fuers for their thoughts.

A BJJ player and notorious pimp, Da Big Deezy, in the Crenshaw district tried to "raise up" and "slap a ho" ..... I impaled him with my retractible naginata. I wish there were more groundfighters in the world. They make my arsenal that much more deadly. - john takeshi

his pullback lacks momentum...he kinda slapping his solar plexus range punches instead of more whipping them...no butterfly step-bounce to his stance...he is using the wuji ongaurd stance of kung fu too much, while working the bag...wuji is more of a state of mind, than a stance...peep the tai chi vs white crane fight from 1950...they hands are low cuz they fighting from the traditional self defense mindset, not using the offensive defense favored by sport fighters...that's good for the street, where you will be pulling change out of your pockets, hand hella low, then you get suckerpunched, and you instinctively flinch-react and block...

yeah, anyway i would tell him the pull back has to be as quick as the extension or faster if possible...and whip those punches like the thai's whip their roundhouse kicks...well that's how Hop Gar boxes the longfists anyway...don't know about traditional longfist!.

his hands were down and it looked like he was leaning in a little bit too much when striking. looked like he was trying to muscle the bag more then concentrate on technique. unless the technique was so good i couldnt see it.
