a 54 year old practicing white crane.

however, most people started when young and continue.

I am only mid -40. already slower and not as "flexible" as when young.

proper diet, rest/sleep and only "moderate" exercise or practice when we get old.

just git yerself back in the school...you obviously WANT to train...you just gotta do your thing and don't worry about the 20 year olds doing their thing.

"George never did wake up. And, even all that talking didn't make death any easier...at least not for us. Maybe, in the end, all you can really hope for is that your last thought is a nice one...even if it's just about the taste of a nice cold beer."

"If you find the right balance between desperation and fear you can make people believe anything"

"Is enlightenment even possible? Or, did I drive by it like a missed exit?"

    It's simpler than you think.

    I could be completely wrong"

    50 yrs and counting...
run 1-2 miles every morning, weight train 3x a week, teach classes 6 days a week
Thurs nites I'm in the city for SPM till past midnight
Friday mornings back in to train at my teacher's apt in Chinatown
Sat. after classes are done, I go back in to hang out at my Si-Hing's school
Sun.-my day off...back in Chinatown for more practice...I should get an apartment
Just get off yer a s s , and do it. If ya rest, ya rust. This is how you prevent yourself from aging. I'm in better shape than people 20 yrs younger than me. Look around you. Look at the people who are in their 50's, 60's,70,s. I train with a Sifu who is in his seventies, and still has that sparkle in his eyes, still vibrant.
What do you want to do?

At 55 I'm doing two plus hours of still chi gong and a half hour plus of moving chi gong. This is the bare minimum for me to keep loose. Patience, determination and a good diet and everything comes together. Don't try to make up for lost time or rush anything. Try working back into your routine in small increments through out the day. Your fifties is a good time to balance your routine. If you've been concentrating on internal incorporate the external and vice versa.
