Kiwi martial arts instructor found dead after sex abuse claims

He claimed 100% success rate with reforming bullies... hmm, I wonder how he did that?

    From http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crim...x-abuse-claims

A Hamilton martial arts instructor who worked with young bullies has been found dead days after police launched an investigation into claims that he sexual abused young men.

Stephen John Wallace was a well known martial arts instructor at Incorporated Martial Arts club on Colombo St in Hamilton.

A police spokesman said Wallace was found dead at his home after the investigation was launched last week following complaints of sexual offending against young men.

"Police had not yet spoken with Mr Wallace as the investigation was still in its very early stages at the time of his death," police said in a written statement.

"The priority for police now is to identify victims of Mr Wallace's alleged offending who have not yet come forward.

"It is important that these individuals have the opportunity to speak to police so that they can be provided with all appropriate support."

A woman at Incorporated Martial Arts, who refused to be named, said the group had brought in Victim Support workers to speak to younger members of the club.

"The club are doing everything we can to support the members and the victims."

The woman said staff at the club did not know of the alleged offending and were still coming to grips with what had happened.

"We didn't know that there was an investigation until after he died. We are broken."

Chris Jones, executive pastor of Hamilton's Gateway Church, confirmed Wallace attended the church but said Wallace had no involvement in the youth section of the church.

Jones would not comment when asked if any of the victims were members of the church, saying a statement from the church would be made later this week.

Wallace's death has been referred to the Coroner.

In 2011, in a interview Wallace said he was running programmes to straighten out young bullies.

    * Bullies turn to martial arts

At the time he said 15 of approximately 100 children and teenagers who came to his Frankton martial arts gym were bullies who had harassed or assaulted other children.

He said that children who bullied others usually need boundaries, discipline and to learn respect for others - all of which are offered by sports such as kickboxing, judo, karate and mixed martial arts.

Wallace said teaching bullies martial arts didn't make them better at dishing out beatings - claiming a 100 per cent success rate with reforming bullies.

In many cases, the children "had incredibly brilliant parents", who had been searching for a solution to curb their children's violent behaviour and aggressive attitude.

He believed martial arts, which requires intense training, mental discipline and respect for oneself and others, offered that solution - what he termed "old-school values".

"What I have found, over the years, is the bullies have the lowest self-esteem," he said.

Bullies would be immersed "in the values we have at the school - wanting to achieve, wanting to be recognised".

Wallace said a violent 13-year-old, on the verge of being removed from his school, had been brought to Incorporated Martial Arts to try to modify the boy's behaviour.

"His temper had got out of control, " he said.

Wallace said stroppy or aggressive children quickly learned to respect him and other instructors, and that filtered back to parents.

"I get parents ringing me saying, hey, can you just get Jimmy to do his homework? They have a respect here."

    William Schellinger - 12 years

Former martial arts instructor gets prison

A former Campbellsport martial arts instructor convicted of sexually assaulting one of his students is going to prison.

William Schellinger, 44, was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Oct. 9 during a hearing before Fond du Lac County Circuit Court Judge Peter Grimm. He was also ordered to serve 15 years of extended supervision following incarceration.

Schellinger was found guilty at a jury trial that ended on July 22. He was charged with six felony counts of child exploitation using video, records, etc; six counts of child pornography, two counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child and repeated sexual assault of the same child.

A 15-year-old teenage girl told investigators from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office that she and Schellinger were engaged in a sexual relationship from March to August 2014 that took place at Kettle Moraine Martial Arts Academy in Campbellsport, according to the criminal complaint.

Information retrieved from Schellinger's cell phone turned up numerous photos of naked women -- including 71 photos of the underage girl -- engaged in sexual explicit conduct, the complaint stated.

The teen told authorities that Schellinger told her not to tell anyone about their relationship, or he would shoot himself. Schellinger admitted "sexting" the teen and buying her a sexual device, the complaint stated. He also told detectives that he thought of her as a daughter and that he tried to keep the girl single through high school and during any future college years in the event they had a future together.
    So messed up. Poor girl.

    Marc Gitelman

Sex abuse victim of local martial arts instructor speaks out

LAS VEGAS (KSNV News3LV) – A victim of a local martial arts instructor convicted of sex crimes in Nevada and California said she was not surprised that there were multiple victims in this case.

Marc Gitelman, 50, had been a top-ranked tae kwon do instructor with a studio in northwest Las Vegas. Prosecutors say Gitelman had sex with at least two teenage girls for a span of six years from 2007 to 2013.

"He would take athletes to California and have them go under the influence of alcohol for travel tournaments," said one of the victims, who wished to remain anonymous.

"I didn't think what was happening was rape until after."

The victim says her life has never been the same since she was molested. She has a message for any other students who were abused.

"I would just like to tell them it wasn't their fault,” she said. “No matter what anyone says, an actual predator, it wasn't their fault."
So true. That's such a major point when counseling rape survivors.

    Dojo Pizza

    This story boggles my mind.

Police raid pizza and karate business in south St. Louis

DoJo Pizza at 4601 Morgan Ford Road was raided by police on Friday, Oct. 23, 2015.
    October 24, 2015 5:45 am • By Jesse Bogan

ST. LOUIS • Police raided a business on Morganford Road that houses a pizza parlor and a karate school on Friday.

The reason for the raid was unclear. Neighbors said boxes were carried out. Dojo Pizza at 4601 Morganford Road was boarded up and condemnation notices were posted on its doors by Friday evening.

The business is run by Loren Copp, a former pastor and builder with a history of failed financial dealings in Southern Illinois and the St. Louis area. Dojo Pizza is in an old church and a former Christian school that Copp used to be associated with.

Copp, the subject of a 2011 Post-Dispatch report about his path to be pastor of now-defunct Southwest Christian Church near Fenton, could not be reached Friday evening for comment.

Before the raid, police responded Oct. 13 to the building on Morganford following a child endangerment complaint. Police said the investigation is ongoing, but no one has been charged with a crime.

Some people who live nearby described the business as a sort of community center. They said people referred to Copp as "sensei," a term for a martial arts teacher.

A flier near the entrance advertised a karate fundraising campaign for at-risk children in St. Louis. Another one advertised an upcoming karate tournament.

Meredith Bousman, 41, said she had recently used a discount coupon at Dojo Pizza and talked with the man who runs it.

“I said it was nice to see something in the neighborhood that seemed to be an anchor,” Bousman said.

She said she and her family were the only customers at the time of their visit and she remembered finding it odd that one of the servers was a child. She said the man she talked with said he allowed students to use a computer in the building’s basement to take online courses. She said the man also mentioned that he taught self-defense and lived in the building with his children.

“He just seemed like an interesting guy,” she said.

According to the Dojo Pizza website, the business operates as a nonprofit organization, with free karate classes funded by donations and pizza sales.

According to social media announcements, police were to teach self-defense courses at Dojo Pizza last February and August. There was to be a recent fundraiser for a nearby police substation.

Robert Patrick of the Post-Dispatch contributed to this report.

    High School lockdown

Saugus High School placed on lockdown after report of student with knife

Saugus High School was briefly placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after police in this Essex County community just up the coast from Boston received a report of a student armed with a knife. The "knife" turned out to be a piece of martial arts equipment that had no blade, according to Saugus police. (Saugus Police Department)

SAUGUS — Saugus High School was briefly placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after investigating a report of a student with a knife at a school bus stop.

The supposed weapon turned out to be a piece of martial arts training equipment, not a knife, and the community was never in any danger, Saugus Police Chief Domenic DiMella and Wakefield Police Chief Rick Smith said in a joint statement Tuesday afternoon.

"After an investigation, police determined that the student had a piece of martial arts training equipment that is not dangerous and not considered a weapon. Police do not believe there was ever any danger to the schools or community," the chiefs' statement said.

Saugus police responded to a 7 a.m. call for a student with a knife at a bus stop at the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Central Street. "Out of an abundance of caution, Saugus High School was placed on lockdown as police investigated the report," the chiefs said, noting that the lockdown order was lifted around 8:30 a.m., once officials determined there was no threat.

Officers located and spoke to the male, a student at the Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational School, who had a piece of martial arts training equipment with no blade, police said. The student did not make any threats and no criminal charges were filed.

"We appreciate the diligence of the community in reporting this," DiMella said. "Thankfully, it does not appear as if there was ever any danger to residents or students. We are glad to see our emergency practices work effectively and that there was minimal disruption to the schools."
Wait...what was the alleged piece of martial arts training equipment?

Bad Muay Thai cop. But given some of the other transgressions on this thread, this seems minor.

GUELPH—A veteran Guelph Police officer who is also a respected figure in the province's Muay Thai fighting community is facing two counts of professional misconduct under the Police Services Act.

Const. Jay Bathija, a 10-year veteran with the police service, remains on active duty but is assigned to front-desk duties pending the resolution of his Police Services Act case.

Bathija was formally charged Tuesday with breach of confidence and discreditable conduct under the Police Act. A public hearing was held at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Centre on Scottsdale Drive on Tuesday morning.

According to the notice of hearing in his case, the charges were laid after a Guelph Police officer obtained confidential information from a police computer system, on Jan. 27, and divulged that information to a member of the public.

Insp. Chris Goss, of the Waterloo Region Police Service, was the presiding officer at the hearing.

Prosecutor for the matter was Judith Stoffman and legal counsel for Bathija was Bill MacKenzie.

The public side of the hearing lasted less than 10 minutes and was put over until Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. to be held at 160 Clair Rd.

Stoffman said the matter arose from a public complaint brought forward by Guelph Police Chief Jeff DeRuyter. The matter did not come from a public complaint to the Office of the Independent Police Review Director.

No plea was given. Bathija and his legal counsel were to be given time to review the allegations and respond by the next meeting.

Bathija made no statement at the hearing Tuesday.

Guelph Police Insp. Dave Pringle spoke briefly after the short hearing.

He said the mattter stems from a complaint received from a member of the public. "Due to the full transparency that the chief has within our organization, it's important that these matters are investigated."

Pringle said Bathija was reassigned to front-desk duties when it became clear this matter would lead to a Police Services Act hearing. When asked when Bathija was first served notice about the alleged misconduct, Pringle said he didn't have that information.

Bathija has gained acclaim away from policing as an instructor and competitor in the martial arts sport of Muay Thai.

He once captured the World Amateur Muay Thai Association of Canada North American middleweight title belt.

Chandigarh: Two persons including a coach were booked on the charge of sexual harassment following a complaint lodged by an 18-year old Wushu player in Rohtak, police said on Monday.
Accused identified as Rajesh (coach) and Sandeep have been booked under section 354 A of the IPC at women police station at Rohtak, police said.
As per complaint lodged by the Wushu player on December 5, Rajesh had been allegedly pressurising her to have physical relations with her. He allegedly even threatened her to spoil her career by not allowing her to play further, as per victim's complaint.
Victim, a resident of Bhagwatipur in Rohtak, alleged that she had gone to Narwana (Jind) to play senior state tournament in November 2013. There she was called by coach Rajesh and he allegedly held her and started molesting her, she said in the complaint.
When she started crying, coach felt sorry for the act. But later he threatened that if she did not maintain physical relations with her, he would not allow her to play again, the complainant alleged.
She said that she had been constantly pressurised by accused to be physical with him.
Complainant alleged that when she reported the matter to Sandeep (team manager), he also allegedly asked her to give into the demand of Rajesh.

But really needs to be included here, just cuz we ain't got no sumo on this thread yet.

Former sumo stablemaster accused of abusing assistant
    Posted on 17 November 2015 - 07:38pm

This picture taken on Sep 2, 2015 shows former Japanese sumo stable master Kazuyuki Yamamura (C) at a police station in Tokyo after he was arrested for the alleged abuse against the man hired as a driver. AFP
TOKYO: A former Japanese sumo stablemaster has admitted to abusing an assistant, including beating him with a bat, stuffing a towel in his mouth and forcing him to eat a full wasabi container, reports said on Tuesday.

Kazuyuki Yamamura, who once headed the stable of record-breaking Mongolian sumo wrestler Hakuho, told a Tokyo court Monday that he had repeatedly hit his former assistant with a metal bat, the Nikkan Sports newspaper and other reports said.

Yamamura allegedly stuffed the mouth of his 31-year-old aide with a towel and slammed his fingers, elbows, knees and ankles with a bat or a hammer, the reports said.

The alleged abuse against the man, hired as a driver and personal assistant, started early this year and escalated to the point of forcing him to eat an entire container of wasabi, a notoriously hot Japanese condiment and *****ing a needle under his fingernails, reports said.

Yamamura reportedly justified the abuse by blaming the man for making mistakes when he went grocery shopping for his boss and for not speaking clearly, Nikkan Sports said.

He also threatened to crush the assistant's testicles, bore an eyeball and break his teeth, it said.

The Tokyo District Court would not comment on the case when contacted by AFP.

The abused man told Nippon News Network TV that he thought he could get killed any time.

He also said he felt he could not immediately report the abuse to police out of consideration for Hakuho, but later relented, saying the abuse was intolerable.

Yamamura was expelled from the sport last month by the Japan Sumo Association over the abuse allegations.

Yamamura, who remained affiliated with Hakuho's stable until his expulsion from sumo, was demoted as stablemaster after a magazine reported in 2007 that he had told a mistress about fixing critical bouts involving the Mongolian.

The sumo association later won a lawsuit against the magazine publisher over the report.

Hakuho, a 30-year-old yokozuna grand champion, won a record 35th Emperor's Cup this summer, surpassing legendary Japanese wrestler Taiho who had held the record of 32 titles.

The reports of abuse are only the latest revelations of aggressive bullying in Japan's ancient sport.

The ritual-heavy Japanese national sport characterised by harsh training and strict hierarchy, is no stranger to bout-fixing rumours, illegal gambling and tales of extreme physical abuse.

In 2007, a 17-year-old sumo apprentice died after a hazing incident involving his stablemaster and senior wrestlers.

The stablemaster, who struck the teen with a beer bottle, was sentenced to five years in jail for negligence resulting in death. – AFP

A martial arts teacher has been arrested for allegedly knocking out a five-year-old child.
Justin Branick, 21, taught Taekwondo at the Tiger Martial Arts Academy in Virginia, USA.

But a class went wrong when he allegedly became angry, picked the boy up by his ankle and slung him over his shoulder, causing him to fall to the ground and suffer ‘serious injury’, the Washington Post reported.

But he has now been charged with child abuse after reports of an assault on December 21, police said.

‘The investigation revealed that the accused grabbed the victim, a 5-year-old male… by the ankle then threw him over his shoulders and onto the ground causing the victim to lose consciousness,’ the paper reported a police log said.

Branick was released on $5,000 bail.

This perp does not deserve the title of 'martial arts enthusiast'. Clearly he didn't even glean our most fundamental lessons on honor.

Laura Davies died after the attack at the Essex Horse and Pony Protection Society base in Basildon (Essex Police/PA)

A jealous and controlling martial arts enthusiast has been found guilty of murdering his ex-girlfriend in a brutal attack.

Laura Davies, 21, died after the attack at the Essex Horse and Pony Protection Society base in Basildon, Essex, where she lived and worked as a groom.

Chelmsford Crown Court heard she suffered at least 80 stab wounds and the attack was so forceful that the knife used was bent to a 45-degree angle.

Unemployed Jordan Taylor, 22, of Basildon, had denied the murder on July 3 last year but was found guilty by a jury on Thursday. He will be sentenced on Friday.

The court heard Miss Davies ended their relationship moments before her death.

She had cooked a meal for Taylor in the flat they shared and told him that although the relationship was over, he could continue living there as she did not want to make him homeless.

Prosecutors said the attack began in the flat then continued outside as she fled in her pyjamas.

CCTV footage showed the defendant attempting to hoist Miss Davies's near-lifeless body over a hedge out of view.

Her family said she had been unhappy after he had begun telling her what to wear, prevented her going out and had taken control of her bank account.

Giving evidence, her mother Dyanne Lambert said he would not allow her to wear short-sleeved or low-cut tops and they would often argue.

Ms Lambert added: "She became very quiet and didn't want to talk about what was going on."

Giving evidence on the third day of his trial, Taylor - who was born in Carlisle before moving to Annan in Scotland and Swindon - described the moment he "stupidly" grabbed the knife he alleged his partner of six months had lunged at him with.

He denied purposefully making "disfiguring" cuts to Miss Davies's face and left breast as "punishment" for trying to end the relationship before eventually killing her.

Punam Malhan, senior district crown prosecutor for East of England Crown Prosecution Service, said: "This was a vicious and sustained attack involving 80 separate wounds.

"Jordan Taylor's actions were a result of a jealous rage after Laura ended their relationship. His actions have needlessly ended a young woman's life and robbed her of any future.

"We are committed to bringing cases of domestic violence to court and to securing a conviction; in this case it means Taylor will spend many years behind bars for this horrific attack.

"Laura's family, friends and work colleagues all spoke of a beautiful young woman who loved her work with animals at the sanctuary and we hope the conviction of Mr Taylor for her murder brings some comfort to them in their loss."

Speaking after the trial, Miss Davies's family said in a statement: "Through Laura's death the world has lost an amazing person and our lives will never be the same without her.

"Laura was a loving, caring person, who didn't have a bad bone in her body. She had a passion for animals and devoted her life to caring for and protecting them.

"Laura was beautiful and loved by all who knew her. She is greatly missed and will always be in our hearts and never forgotten."

Her friends and colleagues at the Essex Horse and Pony Protection Society have set up a memorial fund in her name.

Lehigh Valley karate teacher has twice faced sex assault allegations

A Lehigh Valley karate instructor who had sex with a 15-year-old student will serve 1 1/2 to four years in state prison under a plea bargain.

Christopher Calcagni, 52, received the sentence Friday from Northampton County President Judge Stephen Baratta after reaffirming a guilty plea to charges of statutory sexual assault and corrupting a minor.

Calcagni, who ran Saucon Valley Martial Arts in Salisbury Township when he was arrested in late 2014, gave the girl private lessons at his school and his Bethlehem home beginning when she 14 years old, prosecutors said.

After she turned 15 several years ago, Calcagni began to flatter her and tell her she was pretty and they eventually started to have sex, according to authorities.

Calcagni will have to register for life as a sex offender, and will serve two years of probation once he completes his prison term.

Originally, Calcagni pleaded guilty to the charges in April, but he later withdrew that plea for procedural reasons. At issue was his desire to dispute a state psychologist's conclusion that he is a sexually violent predator, given a decades-old prior sex assault case.

In 1988, Calcagni was accused of sexually abusing five girls while he worked at Children's Home of Easton as a house parent. He ended up pleading guilty to corrupting minors, receiving a sentence of probation.

That case was cited in August by Veronique Valliere of the state Sexual Offenders Assessment Board, who recommended that Calcagni be labeled a predator, a designation that would bring enhanced reporting and counseling requirements once he is released from prison.

Valliere said that in both instances, Calcagni took advantage of children by using threats and abusing a position of authority.

But Calcagni's defense attorney, Philip Lauer, says his client's 1991 plea bargain was to steeply reduced charges after the girls' larger allegations proved unfounded. Because of the age of the case, Lauer said he needed time to uncover details of it, which is why the April plea was ultimately withdrawn.

Whether Calcagni will be classified as a predator remains unresolved. Baratta scheduled a hearing in March over the issue, when Lauer could present an expert of his own, said Assistant District Attorney Anthony Casola.

Scott Alan Flood update: Chandler karate teacher gets prison for child molestation
    Associated Press
    4:51 PM, Jan 22, 2016

CHANDLER, AZ - A Chandler karate instructor who pleaded guilty to child molestation has been sentenced to nine years in prison.

Scott Alan Flood also was sentenced Friday to lifetime probation.

Flood was arrested on suspicion of two counts of child molestation in June 2012 when he was 47.

Authorities say Flood had been instructing karate to 3-to 6-year-olds in the Chandler area for the past decade.

A 5-year-old girl told Chandler police that Flood allegedly touched her inappropriately at school and told her not to tell her parents.

The other victim's allegations stem from a case in 2010 in Tempe.

Tempe police say those allegations didn't meet the statutory requirements for a sex crime, so they investigated them as an assault.

He also pleaded guilty in August to aggravated assault and voyeurism.

Larson, 61, had pleaded guilty last October in U.S. District Court in connection with an alleged violation of the Mann Act, which prohibits taking minors across state lines for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity. U.S. District Judge Stephen Limbaugh imposed the sentence on Larson.
Larson also faces charges in Effingham County in connection with the incident last Jan. 30, which began when the girl's parents dropped her with Larson, her karate instructor at the time. They were found early the next morning in a Sikeston, Missouri, motel. Both later admitted engaging in sexual activity.
Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler said Wednesday that he planned to meet with the girl's family before making a decision on whether to press the case against Larson in this county. Kibler said that once Larson is transported to a federal prison, having him released for state court appearances can be complicated.
"Once he goes to federal prison, getting him back is kind of a pain," Kibler said.
Larson is scheduled for a status hearing at 9 a.m. Feb. 3. Kibler said he hopes to have a decision made by then.
Kibler said Larson can receive no more than seven years in prison on his state charges, which include unlawful restraint, indecent solicitation of sex from a minor and obstructing justice. Moreover, the prosecutor added, any state sentence would run concurrent to his federal sentence.

Former Tupelo martial arts instructor wants to appeal conviction, again

    DUTSCHKE

    Special to the Daily Journal

ABERDEEN – James Everett Dutschke represents himself in a federal appeal to overturn his 2014 conviction that he sent poison-laced letters to President Obama and others.

Dutschke, a former Tupelo martial arts instructor and political candidate, asks the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn dismissal of earlier conviction appeals in the Northern District of Mississippi. Most lately he appeals U.S. District Judge Sharion Ay****’s decision to deny him a public-paid attorney to make the appeals.

In a five-page, hand-written document filed Monday, Dutschke insists his request was not “frivolous” because he is “without any legal counsel or guidance” to properly proceed in the courts.

Dutschke pleaded guilty in early 2014 to four counts that he manufactured the poison ricin and mailed it in threats to the president and others, including Sen. Roger Wicker and Lee County Justice Court Judge Sadie Holland.

Authorities said Dutschke hatched the poison-letter plan to frame Elvis tribute artist Paul Kevin Curtis of Corinth, with whom he had a long-standing feud. Curtis was first arrested in the scheme, but later his legal counsel discovered the connection to Dutschke and alerted prosecutors.

Curtis is suing the U.S. Department of Justice and others claiming damages for his false arrest, incarceration and loss of his career potential.

Dutschke is serving a 300-month sentence in the Florence, Colorado, super-max prison.

Ay**** dismissed Dutschke’s first efforts to overturn his convictions.

In his latest appeal, he insists he is innocent.

In a return letter to Dutschke, 5th Circuit Court Clerk Lyle W. Cayce instructs him as to the procedure involved with making an appeal, which first requires him to secure Ay****’s approval for a certificate of appealability, which she denied him in Oct. 19, 2015.

If he could secure such a certificate, he is required to pay the $505 docket fee to file his appeal.

    Troy Ktori

There's a pic of McInally that I couldn't cut&paste. No pic of Ktori.

MARTIAL ARTS MAN ‘ORDERED ESCORT GIRL AFTER DRUG-FUELLED MURDER’
    By Tele Reporter,10 Feb 2016 6.00am

A MARTIAL arts expert ordered the services of an escort girl just hours after stabbing a Dundee man to death at his home in a drink and drug fuelled jealous rage, a court heard.

Troy Ktori had become furious after 55-year-old Charles McInally, originally from Menzieshill, had asked his girlfriend whether she wanted a “threesome”, it was alleged.

Ktori, 27, of Shenstone Road, Erdington, has denied charges of murder, attempted wounding with intent and assault.

Adrian Keeling QC, prosecuting, said that Mr McInally, a design engineer for the railways who lived in Brewers Square, Edgbaston, Birmingham, had gone out with Carl Martin to a pub.

It was there they met the defendant who was with his girlfriend and another man. They initially got on well and while in the pub Ktori had shown Mr McInally a video of him being interviewed about being a martial arts champion.

Mr Keeling said they then decided to continue the party back at the victim’s home.

At one point Ktori arranged to buy cocaine from a dealer, he said.

Mr Keeling said: “It was the cocaine that had a real effect on this defendant. His girlfriend was getting a lot of attention, it seems, from the other men and the defendant was jealous.”

He said Ktori got into a “play fight” with Mr Martin before walking out and returning to his home.

With Ktori out of the house the party continued for a while before his girlfriend went back to Ktori’s home and told him about the request for a threesome. The defendant then headed back to Brewers Square with his girlfriend running after him, trying to stop him.

When he arrived, Mr Martin answered the door and Ktori is said to have lunged at him with a knife he had hidden in the waist band of his trousers.

Mr Keeling said Ktori found a drunk Mr McInally in the lounge, adding: “With a single blow from the knife in his throat he killed him. A short time later Ktori called an escort agency called Lush Escorts.

Mr Keeling said this might give a “disturbing insight” into how distressed or not Ktori had been about what he had done.

He said the defendant later got a taxi to Bromsgrove and then camped out in the Malvern Hills for a few days before handing himself in to the police.

Mr McInally’s funeral was held in Dundee last year. The trial continues.

    Slightly OT

For nearly the last three decades, I've worked in 'martial arts stores' (the first one was actually a sword shop, but that qualifies as we did carry many real swords). I've had this nagging martial-nerd fantasy that one might get robbed and I could use one of the many weapons that are within arm's reach.

It's just a fantasy. It's not the real thing.

RIVERSIDE – A Beverly man has been charged with robbing a Chinese restaurant and a martial arts store last month.

Jerome T. Barber, 54, is also suspected in four other commercial break-ins, police said.

Barber allegedly robbed China Garden restaurant Jan. 27 on Scott Street in Riverside and then burglarized a martial arts store Jan. 28 on North Pavilion Avenue, police said. He made off with about $1,000 in the two break-ins, authorities said.

Detectives with Riverside, Edgewater Park and the NJ Transit Police identified Barber as a suspect shortly after the crimes.

Barber was arrested Thursday when a Riverside detective spotted him in the business district, police said.

Police said he is also responsible for break-ins in Burlington Township, Burlington City and Edgewater Park.

Bail was set at $50,000 for the two Riverside crimes.

Martial arts expert who stabbed ex-soldier to death jailed for 12 years

    West Midland Police
Guilty: Troy Ktori was convicted of manslaughter

A martial arts expert has been jailed for stabbing an ex-soldier to death in a drink and drug fuelled rage.

Troy Ktori, 27, knifed Charles McInally , 55, in the throat at his Birmingham home then left him to die as he went on the run for six days.

He was found hiding out in the Malvern Hills, the Birmingham Mail reported .

Ktori, from Edgbaston, was found guilty of manslaughter at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday.

He was acquitted of murdering the railway design engineer.

Ktori confronted Mr McInally and housemate Carl Martin at the home they shared in Brewers Square, Edgbaston, after becoming enraged at claims they wanted a “threesome” with his girlfriend.

After chasing Mr Martin through the property, he stabbed Mr McInally who had stumbled towards him.

In passing sentence, Mr Justice Neil Garnham said: “Thereafter your conduct was cowardly and appalling. You simply made off and did nothing to assist the dying Mr McInally.

“You did not call an ambulance. Instead you set about organising your own escape.

“I have read a moving statement from Paul McInally (the deceased brother) written on behalf of him and their mother and it paints a very clear picture of the anguish and loss you have brought to them.

“It is perfectly plain that you have a temper that is made worse by drink and drugs, both of which you abuse regularly.

“Your behaviour in this offence demonstrated that when you are irritated by others you resort to violence.

“Yours was a slow burning fury. You act in a cool, calm and determined manner, inflicting violence on those you take against. You are a dangerous man.”

Stabbed to death: Former soldier Charles McInally

Crystal Jeffries, 30, the defendant’s girlfriend and Matthew Roper, 24, both of Shenstone Road, had previously admitted a charge of assisting an offender.

Roper was jailed for 20 months while Jeffries was handed a 20 month sentence, suspended for two years.

Adrian Keeling QC, prosecuting, said Mr McInally and Mr Martin met the defendant and Jeffries at a pub in Edgbaston where Ktori had boasted about his martial arts expertise.

They continued the party at Brewers Square where cocaine and alcohol were both consumed but Ktori stormed out after punching Mr Martin in the face.

After Jeffries later told her boyfriend that she had been propositioned, Ktori stormed back to the address and attacked both men.

After the stabbing Ktori had taken refuge at a friend’s home in Northfield before later buying camping equipment. He and Jeffries and Roper had then hidden out in the Malvern Hills for two days before the killer handed himself in.

Ktori went on to claim that he had been acting in self-defence when he stabbed Mr McInally.
Wonder what made him a 'Martial arts expert'?
