    when does subscription start

I 'renewed' my subscription after missing the last 3 issues. i want to know if your first issue will be the current one in stores or the next issue. i ordered mine about 2 weeks ago, so should I pick up the current one or will that be mailed out? thanks

    The next one

We're bi-monthly, so the next issue, which is being sent out as we speak here, is the Jan Feb 2008, which will be on newsstands in a few more weeks. The one on newsstands now is the Nov Dec 2007. If you haven't picked that one up yet, please do. If you haven't received it by now, it probably wasn't included in your subscription. Your order may have come in after we already shipped. You can contact sales@martialartsmart.com if you have any questions.

    Thanks for your subscription!

    not yet...

...we need to reformat a little to add the 2008 slot. It'll probably be up soon however.

Which Issue should I be expecting?

Gene - I signed up for a two-year subscription on Oct 26th. Should I be expecting any issues before the Jan-Feb 2008? Thanks!

I also signed up for a 2yr. subscription in Oct. When I sent my money order I enclosed a note stating I wanted my subscription started with the Jan-Feb '08 issue.

If you ordered a subscription in Oct, you'll get the Jan Feb 2008.

You have to keep in mind two factors: #1. we're bimonthly and #2. magazine dates are always a month later than the on newsstand date. All mags do this to increase shelf life. So, the Nov/Dec was on the newsstand in Oct. We ship the subscriptions out prior to the newsstand date, so those issues were shipped in Sep. The Jan/Feb was shipped last week and it'll be on newsstands very soon (scheduled for early Dec). Make sense now? If you have any questions about your subscriptions, contact our fulfillment office at sales@martialartsmart.com.

    me too!

It does for most of our subscribers. But truth be told, the Chinese martial arts can barely support a small newsstand magazine at this time, so we're subject to the whims of the megastores and distributors. Once Hawaii got their issues before we even got our advances here in the office. At the very least, we offer a discount on the newsstand price and a 10% discount at our retail outlet MartialArtsMart.

    challenge of CMA magazines...

gene, i know you've commented on the difficulty of martial arts magazines, particularly cma ones in the stands. what's ironic is the proliferation of mma related magazines recently. about 2 weeks ago i was in a barnes and nobles and counted either 4 or 5 mma mags all surrounding kftc

    Ha! Tell me about it.

There are half a dozen plus on the newsstands here. The MMA mags are leaning more towards fan mags, akin to the WWE mags. That's a smart move, because WWE is quite lucrative.

We'll see how long they all last. It's easy to start a magazine. It's hard to sustain one.

I haven't yet either; I'm glad I'm not the only one. I also expect to find it in my mail box any time now.
