why not use your knuckles against, well, your other knuckles? if you're specifically looking at hand conditioning and not much else in this, take the same steps i do:

    1. remove ring(s) (i'm hitched and have two rings from my wife -- white gold scratches too easily)
    2. look around to make sure no one is watching
    3. punch your fists together in front of you

just vary the level of power in the punch according to your conditioning and needs. i wouldn't use this as a replacement for hand conditioning, but it's a good substitute when you have few other options regularly available.

I hung a heavy bag in my apartment. I fastened it to a stud in the ceiling and I used like 3" bolts. Oh, and I lived on the top floor. I can imagine that if you had neighbors above you they might get annoyed if you were using a heavy bag hanging from your ceiling

Here's a pic of the mounting bracket I used and the bag hanging after I was done. You can see where I missed a few times trying to find the stud. And yes, I was using a stud finder, but it's much harder to locate them in the ceiling than in walls.

The hand conditioning you get from HB work is a "side eefect" of bag work, not the goal.
If your goal is hand "forging" there are better ways than a HB for just that purpose.
