    The Online Community

    http://www.comscore.com/press/release.asp?press=849

ive read a few sources about the amount of people that are online.

relatively speaking, hardly any of us even use the internet. Speakin on a global scale here.

How do you feel that effects the state of martial arts.

Those that are linked vs. those that are not.

In regards to tradition, modernization, adaption, and so forth.
For whoso comes amongst many shall one day find that no one man is by so far the mightiest of all.

Very few MA I know bother with the net, I am a rare exception, but I am freaky that way

Of all the MA I know personally, I am one of 3 that is a regular forum poster.
All the others have lives !

Fact is, I am able to post from work during the day, I never post in the eve ( training and family) or on weekends ( training and family).

Most thing the net is made up of guys that can't fight so they debate !
    LOL !

    With a few exceptions

    They are right.

on the negative side of the coin, there are many who do not connect that do not know that others know of their lies.

I'm kind of the same way. I'm in the office from 9-5 every day, and often times its really boring so I come on here and dwindle the day away.

Sometimes after class I may post something, mainly because I have been on the forum so long now....

    so now here is the thing;

people on line that think that everyone is online. that the internet aspect of martial arts a large portion of the martial arts community, when in fact, they are in the severe minority, and the fact that this mindset directly influences they way they view martial arts....

actually, people in China and taiwan are very well linked.

cell phones and internet are very popular in China and taiwan.

but if everyone doing CMA is linked or not is another question.

I constantly read Chinese website and forums. I am a member of many forums.

however, I did not post a lot in Chinese forum, mainly b/c it would take forever just to type a sentence in Chinese characters.

    I simply gave up.

meaning many CMA dudes or gals may be reading CMA forums but not everyone post.

I think the internet is critical in exposing the lies in martial arts.

I know it was critical for me in discovering the falsehoods behind my previous training.

And that was timing too...considering I was in a small mountain town and didn't really get online regularly myself till '98 or so. But, looking out towards what there was on the net martially started me looking closer at what I was told about what I was doing.
"George never did wake up. And, even all that talking didn't make death any easier...at least not for us. Maybe, in the end, all you can really hope for is that your last thought is a nice one...even if it's just about the taste of a nice cold beer."

"If you find the right balance between desperation and fear you can make people believe anything"

"Is enlightenment even possible? Or, did I drive by it like a missed exit?"

    It's simpler than you think.

    I could be completely wrong"

Very true, I speak to a few guys in Europe and a couple in Macao and there views on MMA, for example, are not consistent with the "online mantra".
Some don't get the point of "talking fighters".
Most see the net as a juvenlie waste of time, these tend to be much older though.
While the net is a great tool for many things MA related, there is a lot of crap than can confuse the issue and even great "lineage issues" for example.
Just because its on the net/in print, doesn't make it true.
As for using the net to sniff out and expose frauds, that is a valid use, though more often than not it is being used by the wrong people.
Looking for the truth is always better than looking for the lies.
