This is so cool that I'm also posting it in Tai-Chi-in-Street-Fights.

Grandma busts Tai Chi move to catch thief
    By Coconuts Bangkok June 12, 2015 / 11:37 ICT

A 70-year-old grandma revealed her secret identity as a superwoman with the power of Tai Chi when she caught a thief who stole money from a coffee shop in Chonburi.

Nipa Ratsopon was practicing Tai Chi at a park in front of Chonburi Provincial Court Wednesday when the coffee shop owner, Thanyaporn Sudsawat, 52, yelled out for help after a customer stole her purse.

Grandma Nipa promptly ran after the thief and busted out some Tai Chi moves to prevent her from escaping.

Things happened real fast, and the two women were able to hand over the thief, identified as 36-year-old Wanida Nakklai, to the police.

Thanyaporn told police Wanida had ordered coffee but grabbed the owner’s purse while she wasn’t looking, before walking away. It contained THB13,600 in cash.

Wanida begged the coffee shop owner not to prosecute her because she had just lost her job and committed the crime to feed her two kids. Her request was denied, as police reminded her that theft is a criminal offense.

The Tai Chi grandma, explaining her heroic move, said that she has been practicing the Chinese martial art for years, which is why she’s still fit.

Grandma said the thief didn’t fight back, but if she had, our superhero is convinced she would have easily won, Komchadluek reported.

Martial arts student shocks would-be burglars
Police have not announced any arrests
Eli Rosenberg, KMBC Published: August 13, 2015, 11:02 pm Updated: August 13, 2015, 11:51 pm

(CNN) – Three suspected burglars chose the wrong home to break into, and we have the video of them running scared.

All is quiet. You can even faintly hear Nathan Engert working away in a back bedroom.

Then bam! Two kicks, and the door comes down. Three suspects barge in looking to rob the place.

Engert said, “Once I turned the corner, I saw this 15-year-old kid.”

As three started looking for things to steal, many would hide in the closet. Not Engert.

What these three suspects had no way of knowing was that Eengert, 6’2” and about 210 pounds, is a blue belt in Brazilian jujitsu.

Engert said, “It hurts. This time brings back memories of last time.”

Unfortunately, Nathan knew the feeling. It was about a year ago, someone barged in, and they really cleaned him out. It was then Nathan decided he need to do something, so he bought this camera.

What this camera caught next is priceless…the three took one look at Engert, and took off! “They were more surprised than I was, and they were way more scared than I was.”

And wouldn’t you know it, there he is, Engert right behind them. “What I hope is, not so much to catch the guys, that would be great, but to help other people avoid this feeling, it is an awful feeling.”

After the break in, the attempted burglary, and three suspects who got more than they ever expected.

Police have not announced any arrests. They do have fingerprints from where one of the intruders touched a TV.

Pittsburgh:Cashier takes out sword, teaches ninja-clad robbers a lesson

    Clerk defends store with sword

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Two ninja-clad teens armed with a machete and expecting an easy robbery at a Pittsburgh convenience store got quite a shock when a cashier pulled out a sword and started chasing them.

Surveillance video shows the teens entering Perry Market on Friday night. One goes behind the counter with his machete and demands money.

But cashier Jewad Hayih was prepared, pulling out a sword to knock the smaller weapon out of one teen’s hand. A customer grabbed the second suspect, but he broke free and both teens ran away.

The suspects remained at large Tuesday.
I have kept a sword by my desk for decades. It's a perk of my profession. So happy to see that it works on the street.

Few days ago, the tourist booked an hotel room in Aksaray as part of his trip in Turkey. Near his hotel, he went to pick up a bottled water, but he opened the door of a merchandized refrigerator so hard that dozens of water bottles dropped to the ground. Seconds after the incident, owner of the shop approached the Irish tourist and hit him with a stick.

Dozens of neighbouring shop owners then steam in to help - but unluckily for them, their victim is a professional boxer.
At one point, realising he is in for a proper scrap, he takes his sunglasses off and puts them on top of his head so he can take care of business.
Harrying the gang with kicks and punches, he hits one attacker in the face so hard the man goes straight down - and later looks like he is being sick in the street.
Eventually the shopkeepers got the message - and may think again before attacking a tourist.

Love his move with his sunglasses. That's the epitome of cool -

A sobbing robber was left begging for his 'Daddy' after attempting to attack a woman - unaware she was a martial arts champion.

Would-be mugger Wesley Sousa de Araujo was the one pleading for the police after Monique Bastos took him down with a jiu-jitsu move.

She then trapped his head in between her legs, locking his neck in a 'lion killer choke' until the cops finally turned up.

    Scroll down for video

Mistake: Wesley Sousa de Araujo begs for mercy as his intended victim Monique Bastos turns the tables on the alleged mugger, taking him down with a jiu-jitsu move before gripping his neck with her legs

Champion: It turns out Ms Bastos (pictured) is a six-times MMA champion, who has a blue belt in jiu-jitsu

Araujo and another man had earlier approached Ms Bastos and another woman on a street in Acailandia, western Brazil.

Ms Bastos, who has six professional MMA fights on her record, pounced after the men cornered the women on a motorbike and demanded they hand over their mobile phones.

The fighter, 23, later told how she took Araujo to ground in a 'rear-naked choke' before locking him in a 'triangle choke' for 20 minutes until police arrived.

Ms Bastos told Brazil's iG website: 'One of the guys grabbed the mobile phone I was carrying. I could see that they were not armed so I knocked their motorbike down.

    'I wasn't afraid. I knew I could immobilise them.

'One of them managed to run away, so I got the motorbike driver with a 'lion killer' and held him in my legs for 20 minutes.'

Mummy: Arauju, who has denied trying to rob the women, was heard to beg for his mother, father and Jesus

The 'lion killer' is a choke hold in Brazilian jiu-jitsu where the attacker wraps his arm around his opponent's neck, placing the crook of his elbow on his trachea.

In the video filmed on an onlooker's mobile phone, Arauju is heard screaming out for help as Ms Bastos holds him in the lock and applies pressure on his neck.

He shouts: 'Daddy, daddy, call the police, daddy. Help Jesus. I swear, it was the first time I've ever done this. Help, Lord, somebody help me.

    'Where's my mum?'

Araujo was taken to the local police station, where he denied trying to rob the women, according to reports.

Stories like this just warm the ****les of my heart.

Another female martial artist wins with a leg lock

The funny thing is you almost never see leg locks within the curriculum of the average self-defense course.

Jail for Churchdown sex attacker who was pinned in headlock by martial arts-trained victim
By The Citizen | Posted: September 07, 2015

    Mark Willis
Sex attacker Mark Willis picked on the wrong woman when she turned out to be a kickboxer and pinned him in a headlock with her legs.

Willis, 40, of Pirton Lane, Churchdown, hid behind a garden bush before pouncing on the woman as she walked alone with her headphones on just after 2am.

He punched her in the face several times, knocking her over a wall, before clambering on top of her to remove her clothes.

But the martial arts expert got him in a headlock between her legs and held him until he "went limp" before scrambling from the bushes and raising the alarm at a nearby house in Cheltenham.

Judge William Hart praised the woman's bravery as he sentenced Willis to four and a half years in prison on Monday.

He will serve at least two thirds of that before being considered for release on license.

During the hearing at Bristol Crown Court, he told Willis: "I am sure you were wandering around Cheltenham after 2am looking for a young female upon who you could prey. You saw the victim approaching and noticed she had headphones in.

"She is a woman of great courage and, unbeknown to you, she had martial arts training and she was able to use that to great effect."

Warehouse worker Willis had previously pleaded guilty to a charge of causing actual bodily harm following the incident on August 31 last year.

He denied sexual assault but was convicted by a jury following a trial at Gloucester Crown Court in May.

During the trial, the victim – who had been kickboxing for two and a half years – told the court: "I was stunned for a moment. Again I could feel him grabbing me and pulling at my clothes.

"My legs were free so I lifted my left leg up on to his shoulder and around the back of his neck. I crossed my right leg over and squeezed together as hard as I could.

"He seemed to struggle for air, which was the point. His head was locked down. He lifted his right hand and pounded as hard as he could on the side of my face.

"I closed my eyes and held it for as long as I could hoping he would pass out in a few seconds. Then I felt his body go limp. I flipped him off, rolled over and crawled through the bushes to the door of the house."

Emma Nott, defending, said the attack had been "opportunist" and asked the judge to ensure Willis was sentenced for what had happened and not what might have.

Willis has a previous conviction for a similar offence. He was ordered to sign the sex offenders' register.

Once he is released from prison he must spend an additional four years on licence due to the danger he poses to the public.

Judge Hart praised the victim, who was in court for the hearing, for her bravery.

Following the trial she was awarded £500 by the High Sheriff of Gloucestershire for her help in the apprehension of Willis.

Score a major one for BJJ - Hero Spencer Stone!

This should make all martial artists, especially BJJers, proud.

Airman on French train fight: 'jiujitsu saved my life'
By Jeff Schogol, Staff writer 11:18 a.m. EDT September 16, 2015

Gen. Mark Welsh, Air Force chief of staff, announces that Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone will be promoted to staff sergeant at the Air Force Association's Air & Space Conference at the Gaylord National Resort in National Harbor, Md., on Tuesday.
    (Photo: Mike Morones/Staff)

The martial arts skills that Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone used to help disarm a gunman Aug. 21 on a train in Belgium could help other airmen who find themselves in close-quarters combat, he said.

“I 100 percent believe that Brazilian jiujitsu saved my life at that moment,” Stone told Air Force Times on Wednesday. “Every move I used on him was very, very basic — you can learn in five minutes. If we had a course like that in the Air Force for people to learn basic moves, it could help anyone in a situation like that.”

In a wide-ranging interview, Stone discussed several topics, including how martial arts teaches physical and mental discipline. Students of Brazilian jiujitsu learn how to remain calm in high-pressure and physically uncomfortable situations, he said.

“You don’t have to be the strongest person to be good at Brazilian jiujitsu,” he said. “You just have to be a good thinker.”

Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Welsh has decided to promote Stone from airman 1st class to staff sergeant to recognize how well Stone has handled the relentless international acclaim since he and his two friends prevented a massacre on the train.

Stone also is set to receive the Purple Heart and Airman’s Medal at a ceremony Thursday at the Pentagon. He talked to Air Force Times about what he thinks of receiving the awards and what it has been like to be the focus of so much media attention.

“I’m trying to stay as humble as possible and not get a big head,” Stone said.

May have been posted here before

We can assume the kid is the bad guy here but that may not be the case. He may have done nothing wrong but upset this guy because he is a kid after all and they **** us older guys off and sometimes we say stuff to put them in there place. Good help it, if the kid says something back at point. He had better of leanred his lesson verbally because lots of older guys are willing to cuff the youngster. I bet the kid did noting wrong. Maybe his skateboard got they guy mad. Maybe he was yelled at to put on a shirt cause the guys wifes was checking him out. Maybe he flipped the guy off for beeping his horn at him and who the heck knows.

The kid did everything to prevent it but he would not back down. That's what kids do a lot of times. Recall them there feeling we used to get. In many ways he was more adult, more level headed and understood limitations and ignorance.

Indy woman uses medieval combat training, sword to stop intruder
    Ryan Martin, ryan.martin@indystar.com 2:40 p.m. EDT October 10, 2015

Rule No. 1: Don't break into the home of a woman with medieval combat training.

    (Photo: Provided by Karen Dolley)

When a man broke into Karen Dolley’s home on Thursday night, her training in medieval combat came in handy. So did her sword.

The 43-year-old woman said she awoke around midnight to the voice of a man in her house near 10th Street and Emerson Avenue on Indianapolis' Eastside.

She leapt out of bed, turned on the lights and saw him standing in her living room, she said. Then her instincts kicked in.

Dolley, standing 5-foot-6, said she immediately attacked, punching him about 10 times and cornering him in her bedroom.

She reached for her gun in a nearby drawer, but she accidentally opened the wrong drawer during the chaos of the moment, so her gun wasn’t there.

She reached for her backup weapon, a Japanese-styled sword called ninjato, which she keeps near her bed. Her intruder crouched in the bedroom as she held him at sword-point until police arrived, she said.

She called 911 and police arrived within two minutes, she said.

Police say Jacob Wessel, 30, of Greenwood, was arrested after forcing his way through the house's backdoor. Wessel, standing at 5-foot-10, was later charged with residential entry, a Level 6 felony.

“I didn’t think I was getting good blows in but my knuckles are bruised today,” said Dolley, 43, on Friday. “Hitting someone like that, it isn’t like the movies. You’re expecting it to be louder and see people jerk around, but that’s not how it happens in real life.”

This is the sword Karen Dolley, 43, used on Thursday night. (Photo: Provided by Karen Dolley)

Dolley actually has some experience in medieval combat fighting from her days as an 18-year-old fighter in the Society for Creative Anachronism, a nonprofit for members who re-create arts and skills from Europe prior to the 17th Century, according to the organization’s website.

Dolley would don armor and engage in unchoreographed fights using rattan swords, which are safer than steel. She fought against men who stood taller than 6 feet and had 20 years experience.

In the beginning, her opponents could guess her moves because she was afraid she was going to hurt someone, she said, so an early lesson was to move confidently and aggressively after someone.

Now Dolley is using those lessons to help in roller derby, where she's a new recruit known as Foul Morguean with Naptown Roller Girls.

The lessons helped during Thursday’s break-in too, she said.

“I definitely don’t need to work on my aggression, I guess,” Dolley said.

An older photo of Karen Dolley participating in unchoreographed fighting with rattan swords and wooden shields. (Photo: Provided by Karen Dolley.)

Michael Valenti, who teaches self defense in Indianapolis, commended Dolley for protecting her home, but suggested most people avoid fighting if they can. If confonted at home, Valenti urged to first run away and call police.

“Ultimately, it’s not worth it to risk your life to protect your TV,” said Valenti, head instructor at School of Self Defense, 3535 Kessler Blvd. E. Drive.

If it’s impossible to run, using a gun, knife or stick is a good option for self protection, as long as someone has regular training and practice with those weapons. A good last option is to use everyday objects in your home, like a lamp.

Jacob Wessel. (Photo: Provided by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department)

When Dolley called police, she said she was in control of the situation, but there was a brief scare when the intruder reached his hand into a pocket. That's when Dolley applied more pressure into the sword and told him to stop moving.

“I’m really, really glad I didn’t have to do anything more,” Dolley said. “I know I could do it, but I don’t want to do that.”

Wessel was sent to the hospital because he was high on an unknown substance, according to police reports.

He actually apologized on his way out, Dolley said. Now, Dolley is only upset that the intruder ruined her sleep and angered her cat.

“At the end of the day, I’m glad to know that even if I wake up in the middle of the night, I’m not going down without a fight,” Dolley said.

    SCA = Medieval kung-fu?
    Medieval kung-fu: works every time

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An Indiana woman says her training in medieval combat helped her corner a home intruder.

The Indianapolis Star reports the woman threw punches until she had the man cornered during the Thursday night break-in. She then kept him subdued with a Japanese sword she keeps near her bed.

She says she learned to fight as a teenager in the Society for Creative Anachronism, a group that recreates skills of the Middle Ages. She also skates with roller derby team Naptown Roller Girls.

Police responding to her 911 call arrested a man.

    LOL. Medieval Kung Fu. LOL.

Gene, they would have just called it Martial Arts, is a European term adopted by Asian arts probably injected by some white dude. Call it War Arts. Archaic crap if you want to. Whatever floats your boat man. Hit guy with sword, you win. Get hit by sword, you lose. Oh well, no need to tell you anything about that. You know more about that stuff than any of us here.

But, if the Chinese had Kung Fu during Medieval times, and they did, would that not be correct terminology then? Medieval times or the 15th century. I have no idea what the Chinese called that time in history.

Now, I must get back to my project. I just wanted to honor a friend who had passed on. Put in print, I remember you dude!

Take care guys. Have fun. Learn from one another. There are no dumb questions. Only stupid answers.

Israeli Man Uses Martial Arts Weapon to Overpower Palestinian Terrorist
    Oct. 13, 2015 9:23am Sharona Schwartz

An Israeli man is being lauded as a hero after using the nunchuks he happened to be carrying to help subdue a Palestinian terrorist who had stabbed and tried to grab the weapon of an Israeli soldier on a Jerusalem bus Monday night.

Yair Ben-Shabbat wasn’t even a passenger on bus number 185, but saw a commotion on the bus at the entrance to the capital.

“I saw a struggle inside the bus. I asked, ‘What’s going on?’ and was told someone was trying to grab a soldier’s weapon,” Ben-Shabbat told Israel’s 0404 News.

“Then I saw two people on [top of] the terrorist and a soldier almost strangled by his [gun] strap,” he recalled.

Holding his nunchuks, Yair Ben-Shabbat demonstrates how the soldier was nearly strangled by his gun strap during the terrorist attack on a Jerusalem bus. (Image source: NRG video)

“I have these nunchuks – I took them out of my bag and I jumped on the bus,” he said.

Jittery over the multiple daily Palestinian stabbing attacks, some Israelis have begun carrying various self-defense tools, including pepper spray and, apparently, nunchuks.

Ben-Shabbat boarded the bus with his martial arts chain sticks when he saw a struggle was underway. (Image source: NRG video)

Ben-Shabbat said it took six strikes of the martial arts chain sticks before the terrorist let up on the soldier’s gun.

The Israeli newspaper Ma’ariv called him the “hero of the day,” while Ynet correspondent Roi Yanovsky called him “the hero of the night.”

Israeli police sources told Israeli media that during the ride, the 22-year-old attacker was sitting in the back of the bus near a soldier.

At the entrance to Jerusalem, he began stabbing the soldier and shouting “Allahu akbar,” that is, “Allah is the greatest.” Then he tried to steal the soldier’s gun, according to the police account.

A Jerusalem police officer who was riding the bus ran to the back to try to subdue the attacker, Ma’ariv reported. Two civilian passengers joined the struggle, all while the Palestinian was trying to **** the soldier’s weapon. This was the altercation that Ben-Shabbat saw from outside the bus and decided to help.

Israel police sources told Ma’ariv and Walla News that a police unit patrolling the area later boarded the bus. When they tried to take custody of the attacker, one of their pistols fell, which, according to the police account, the attacker grabbed and tried to ****. At that point, another officer shot the attacker, killing him.

Israel has been plagued by multiple daily terrorist attacks, including repeated attacks nearly every hour on Tuesday morning.

Karate, Judo, Kendo, and Aikido vs. an AXE

    PUBLISHED: October 29, 2015 12:01 pm LAST UPDATED: October 29, 2015 1:59 pm
'You've got an axe, but I've got a black belt': Martial arts expert fends off armed robbers at Halesowen Cashbrokers
This is the terrifying moment an axe-wielding masked thug tried to smash his way through the window of a pawnbrokers in broad daylight.

Shocked passers-by – including an elderly man – were forced to get out of the way as the raider jumped out of a BMW with an axe outside Cashbrokers in Halesowen and then battered the glass with the weapon.

Shop manager Henry Hunter – who is a martial arts expert – shouted at the raider and his getaway driver and ran out to confront the pair.

The thug, whose face was covered by a balaclava, dropped the axe seconds later and jumped back into the dark blue car which then sped off.

Mr Hunter, aged 55, was serving a customer as the drama unfolded. Rather than being scared by the sight of a pair of raiders, Mr Hunter said ‘the toerags’ are lucky he didn’t get his hands on them. The terrifying raid was captured on the shop’s CCTV.

Smash but no grab – despite several strikes the raider failed to break through

Father-of-five Mr Hunter is a black belt in karate, judo and kendo, and a grandmaster in aikido, but has not practised for around 10 years. He said: “At the end of the day him having an axe didn’t worry me. If I could’ve got out there in time I would’ve taken my chance – that doesn’t bother me. I know I would’ve hit him first before he could’ve hit me.”

Mr Hunter, who trained in martial arts for most of his life, was helping a customer when the two men pulled up outside the pawnbrokers in Queensway at around 10.30am on Tuesday.

The axe was left behind as the raiders fled

Another staff member was replenishing the stock in the window when one of the would-be robbers ran up to the glass and struck it six or seven times.

Luckily the windows are bullet-proof so managed to withstand the force of the weapon.

Mr Hunter’s attempts to confront the pair were slowed down by the security doors fitted at the shop. He said that just as he got through a second safety door the pair fled, dropping the axe on the pavement.

“I screamed at them and ran around to the other side to get out through the security doors,” Mr Hunter, who lives in Bromsgrove, said.

“That’s the thing to do when you’re attacking someone – scream at them and let them know you won’t be going anywhere.

“By the time I had got through the doors they had dropped the axe and got into the car. Then they sped off towards the bus station.”

Following the attack Mr Hunter put up a defiant sign sayimg it was business as usual.

The defiant sign put up after the raid

The raiders caused £1,500 worth of damage.

Mr Hunter said the pair were head to toe in dark clothing, and said they were in a dark or royal blue BMW 5-Series. He added: “I would’ve liked to have caught them.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
    Well played, Mr. Hunter.
