Good thing the two guys helped the girl. Too bad the incident is abused for propaganda. Less mouth frothing news outlets tell a different story.

Martial arts instructor takes down suspected robber

Police say a martial arts instructor took down the suspect of a robbery in progress.

According to a police report, two male subjects with t-shirts wrapped around their heads ran into the Dollar General Store at 840 Juan Tabo Boulevard around 8:44 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27th.

Both men were armed with knives and threatened the clerk, who moved from behind the counter. The men proceeded to remove the cash register drawers from the registers. One suspect took the drawer and proceeded to exit the store, while the other suspect -- later identified as Tyrone Yazzie -- remained in the store, struggling to remove the drawer from its register.

But the alleged thieves had no idea who was watching.

According to the report, Beau Velasquez was in the parking lot watching his students run exercises.

Students from Renegade Combative Tactics, Velasquez's martial arts school next door.

"You train for those moments that you don't know are going to happen, or you hope that never happen," said Velasquez.

Velasquez watched as the suspects entered the store and began the robbery, then he ran to the front of the store, tackling the first suspect who was leaving with the register, knocking the register out of the suspect's hands.

"I just grabbed him," said Velasquez. "Grabbed him by his head and kind of slammed him on the ground. We wrestled. At that time the money box had already fallen."

That subject was slipping from Velasquez' grasp, however, so Velasquez let him go and went inside the store to concentrate on Yazzie.

Velasquez tackled Yazzie to the ground, police say, knocking the knife to the floor. Another man from the martial arts school came to help Velasquez detain Yazzie until police arrived.

"I'm glad one of them at least is taken off the streets so he can't terrorize anybody else," said Velasquez.

Velasquez says Yazzie asked to be let go while he had him on the ground.

"Once we had him on the ground, the guy was, you know, kind of crying. "C'mon on man, let me go, please, please,'" said Velasquez. "And it's like, man, how are you gonna cry after you just tried robbing somebody?"

Police believe this latest event was Yazzie's seventh robbery in the last two months.

Police say the spree started at a Family Dollar store on Juan Tabo Boulevard and went on to include hitting a Check and Go, a Ross Dress for Less, a Big Lots, an At-Home, and a Walmart.

But it wasn't until Velasquez tackled Yazzie at the Dollar General that Yazzie was finally arrested.

"Don't be a victim," said Velasquez. "Train. I know it's scary sometimes, but this happens on a regular [basis] ,you know, so don't be a victim."

Martial arts training helps passenger subdue man who attacks flight crew, exposes self

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A passenger on an international flight was arrested after the plane made an emergency landing at Jacksonville International Airport (JIA) Wednesday for assaulting several flight attendants, a federal charging affidavit says.

Oliver Charlie Halliday Gee, 34, of Playa del Carmen, Mexico, was reportedly unruly prior to the arrest and prevented several flight attendants from doing their job because he was hurling insults and obscenities and other passengers.

Nearly 90 minutes into the flight, Gee escalated and threatened to kill another passenger, hurt a 3-year-old and then removing his clothes to expose his *****. The charging affidavit from the FBI says it seemed like he was about to wee in the plane's cabin.

At this point, a passenger who said he was skilled in martial arts stepped in to help get Gee to the bathroom but was promptly slapped several times across the face with an open hand. A flight attendant was slapped twice as well - once in the face and once in the thigh, both times with an open hand, the charging affidavit says.

Eventually, the flight attendant and the passenger trained in martial arts were able to subdue Gee and get him in his seat just before the flight touched down at JIA.

The charging affidavit mentions that the crew was worried about keeping Gee on the Condor 2115 flight, because the flight was from Cancun, Mexico to Frankfurt, Germany and most of it would take place over water. They weren't sure they would be able to stop and get the man off the plane while over the Atlantic Ocean.

Gee was taken into custody by Jacksonville Aviation Authority Police and is charged with assault or intimidation of a flight crew. He faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison.

He made his appearance in federal court on Thursday and will be detained until his formal detention hearing Nov. 7.

A plucky 12-year-old boy stopped an armed robber in his tracks by disarming him with his martial arts skills and sending him packing from a Turkish jewellery shop.

The man walked into the store in Istanbul's Bagcilar district carrying a bag and wearing a surgical mask, baseball cap, and sunglasses.

He then slammed the satchel down on the counter and grabbed a gun from inside the waistband of his jeans.

Brooklyn woman, 27, gushes gratitude to heroic father-son duo who rescued her from rape: 'They saved my life'

She says she owes her future to a family of martial arts masters.

A 27-year-old Brooklyn woman rescued from a would-be rapist by a pair of black belt good Samaritans met her saviors a ceremony at Borough Hall Wednesday.

“There's a saying in Judaism that if you save one life you save the entire world,” Miriam Braverman said, beaming a smile at Luis Ruiz, 46, and his stepson, Antonio Piñas, 28. “It never made any sense until this happened.”

The two rushed to Braverman’s aid just after midnight Oct. 17, after they heard strange sounds coming from behind a van while they were walking home on Siegel Ct. near McKibbin St.

They found a man on top of Braverman, they told the Daily News in October, and when he non-chalantly walked away, noticed her face was covered in blood and her clothes were ripped.

Ruiz stayed with Braverman, who lost consciousness, and Piñas called police, following the alleged attacker until cops arrived. The suspect, Todd Deas, is charged with assault and attempted rape, and remains held on $500,000.

"They saved my life, everything I do now will be from that time until the end of my life," Braverman said. "Maybe now I'll get married. Maybe I can have children.”

Borough President Eric Adams hailed Ruiz and Piñas as “Heroes of the Month” at the ceremony, which also honored Ahmed Khalifa, a Muslim high school student who helped police catch a homeless man who attacked an Orthodox Jewish woman last month.

Adams also lauded NYPD Detective Steven Franzel, a lead investigator on an operation that yielded the arrest of more than 40 gang members last year.

    Jiu-jitsu > drink driver

They call it 'drink-driver' in the Queen's English or is that a typo? I should really use the term 'yob' more.

A DRINK-driver resisted arrest outside a jiu-jitsu class until he was floored by a martial arts expert.

“As soon as I had my grip on him he wasn’t going anywhere.”

Ray had been teaching Brazilian jiu-jitsu wearing his traditional gi uniform in Bournemouth, Dorset.

He added: “He still struggled violently so I quickly took the man to the ground by using a very simple jiu-jitsu take down.

“I then controlled him until the officer managed to take out leg restraints and secure his legs.

“The actions I took were very simple but effective jiu-jitsu controlling moves.

“I know police have training in these situations, but I think a lot more could be done to help stop this type of scenario, such as martial arts training.

“I’m glad it didn’t escalate and I was able to help.”

Danczyszyn, 28, of Poole, admitted driving offences and resisting a PC.

The town’s magistrates jailed him for a month and banned him from the road for five years.

Burglar Breaks In To Wrong House, Receives Bloody Martial Arts Beating
    By Salvador Sanchez - Feb 25, 2017

    Self defense win!

Training in martial arts is often like owning a gun. Unless you’re a competitive fighter, you’ll likely never have to use your skills in real life. Like the old saying goes ‘It’s better to have one and not need it, than to need it and not have one.’

Practising in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is great for many reasons. Keeping in shape, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and learning practical skills for that ‘just in case’ scenario. Earlier this week, in Fort Myers, that scenario popped up for one local home owner.

    Mugshot by NBC News
    Burglar Robs The Wrong House

Hearing noises in his garage, home owner Brian Burch went to investigate. What he saw was a young man by the name of Mr. Ortiz walking away with a number of his power tools. Ortiz claimed the site manager had sent him over to collect them.

Sensing something wasn’t right, Burch confronted Ortiz and a scuffle broke out. Thankfully Burch is trained in Gracie Jiu Jitsu, and so when the fight went to the ground he knew exactly what to do.

Ortiz Gets Busted Up (Video Below)

Burch says that when it went to ground, he popped Ortiz’s nose with a single fist strike. As he bled profusely, Ortiz was pinned and held while Burch phoned the local authorities with his free hand.

Burch would go on to reveal his relief that his children weren’t in the house at the time. Speaking with reporters, Burch also said he did not use excessive force in defending his property. Here’s the video report from NBC:

    What Have We Learned Today?

Firstly, breaking in to people’s property is a really bad idea. Secondly, messing with people in general is not advisable. With so many folks now training in practical and very dangerous skills, you might just find yourself as the latest version of Mr. Ortiz.

    Stay safe.
Gotta give Burch props for being able to restrain the perp and dial the cops with his free hand. That's a technique we should all learn.

A construction worker in China who was hanging on the side of a wall at some three floors high was saved by a quick-thinking kung fu master.

The former martial arts champion, named Wu Qiang, caught the construction worker with his bare hands after the worker lost grip and fell on March 29.

Thanks to 48-year-old Wu, the man had a soft landing in the incident which occurred in Taicang, east China's Jiangsu province.

The scaffolding came crashing down after the man scaled it to install an advertisement board

Terrifying: The construction worker can be seen hanging from the side of the wall in China

The construction worker, said to be in his 50s, was on scaffolding at the time putting up an advertisement board. The scaffolding suddenly collapsed, leaving him clinging to the side of the wall.

According to Kan Kan News, the man was hanging around eight metres (26 feet) high in the air and was shouting for help.

However the worker seemed to be in luck as Mr Wu came to his rescue.

In the footage, the man, named Wu Qiang, can be seen getting ready to catch the worker

Wu (pictured) is a former martial arts champion who has practiced kung fu since he was seven years old

According to China Youth Daily, Mr Wu and his wife Gu Zhiying own a shop nearby. The couple heard a loud bang when the scaffolding collapsed at around noon. They rushed out to check what had happened.

As Mr Wu's wife and other onlookers gathered cushions to be put on the ground, Mr Wu told the worker to hold on.

Eventually, the construction worker lost grip and fell. Mr Wu reached out his arms and tried to catch him.

Mr Wu caught the worker by the waist, but the momentum caused the worker to hit the ground nonetheless. But thanks to Wu, the worker didn't wasn't seriously injured.

Mr Wu told a Kan Kan News reporter: 'When the man fell, I fell on the floor with him at the same time.'

The above picture shows Wu Qiang when he was young. Wu has reportedly worked as the director of martial arts for many films

Wu is also said to have been a stunt double for Chinese kung fu star Jet Li (above, in The Emperor and The White Snake)

The worker 'fainted immediately' out of fright, but he came around after around one minute, reported China Youth Daily. He suffered minor injuries to the chest and is now in stable condition.

Wu Qiang is said to be a former stuntman for kung fu star Jet Li and has practised martial arts since he was seven years old.

In 1984, he won the national martial arts championship in China and is said to be a seasoned martial arts director for films.

Qiang's wife told Kan Kan News: 'He is a nice guy and anything that he can do, he will offer to help.

'When we were young and staying in Shaxi Town, he chased after a bike thief on the street. He loved to help whoever in need.'

Omi Bhatia fought off a hammer-wielding robber at a bank

A kung-fu expert - dubbed Jackie Chan by his kids - has been hailed a hero after he fought off a hammer-wielding bank robber.

Omi Bhatia was standing in the queue at Lloyds bank when the would-be robber pushed past him and demanded money from the cashier.

Brave Omi said he then sprung into action and quickly grabbed at the hammer - declaring 'you've picked the wrong time and wrong day.'

The thug then tried to flee, but as he did he was tripped up by another customer, Omi said.

Omi said: "I thought he was trying to use the pen but a hammer was the last thing I expected!"

The cashier handed £300 across the counter but it was Omi's quick thinking and 40 years of martial arts training that stopped the robber in his tracks.

Omi said: "The cashier handed over the money but he demanded more. I told him to just walk away.

"I grabbed the hammer but I had to do it quickly and safely as I didn't want anyone to get hurt and all the staff were screaming.

"He ran towards the door and was tripped by another customer."

The incidents took place on April 27, around 9am, at the Lloyds Bank on Walsall Street, Wednesbury, a bank that Omi uses most days.

Stories of bravery emerge after London Bridge terrorist attack
    JUNE 5, 201711:55AM

    @CharisChang2

MARTIAL artist and journalist Geoff Ho is one of several Londoners being praised as heroes after fighting back against three knife-wielding terrorists.
Ho, who is the business editor at the Sunday Express, was in intensive care after stepping in to break up what he thought was a fight, according to the Express.
The expert in Kung Fu and kickboxing was stabbed in the throat after he tried to protect a bouncer on the door of the Southwark Tavern in what turned out to be a terrorist attack in Borough Market.
Seven people died and dozens were injured in the attack, which started when three men in a white van rammed into pedestrians at London Bridge before going on a stabbing rampage in Borough Market.
The three attackers were gunned down by police eight minutes later.
In a Facebook post, Ho reportedly wrote: “Don’t know whether it was stupid or noble to jump and break up the fight outside the Southwark Tavern, but two a*******s trying to do over the lone bouncer on the door isn’t happening on my watch.”

Geoff Ho decided to take on two knife-wielding attackers.Source:Supplied

Geoff Ho pictured trying to staunch the bleeding from a neck wound as he staggered down the street outside the Southwark Tavern.Source:Supplied

He is now being hailed a hero for his actions, along with others who tried to stop the attack.
One colleague said: “The bravery he showed in the heinous terror attack was astounding – but honestly, not at all surprisingly”.
A British Transport Police officer also tried to take on all three attackers armed only with a baton.
British Transport Police Chief Constable Paul Crowther said the officer, who was stabbed in the face, head and a leg, was one of the first responders.
He said the officer, who is in stable condition, confronted the attackers and “it became clear that he showed enormous courage in the face of danger”.
Constable Crowther added that “for an officer who only joined us less than two years ago, the bravery he showed was outstanding and makes me extremely proud”.
Others also took on the attackers with what they had on hand.
Nearby, a Romanian chef Florin Morariu was at the Bread Ahead bakery where he works when he glanced out the window and saw people running.
“They were fainting, falling and we went outside to see what was happening,” he told AP.
Then two people approached another person and “began to stick the knife in ... and then I froze and I didn’t know what to do.”
So Mr Morariu did the only thing he could think of: he managed to get near one attacker and “hit him around the head” with a bread basket.
“There was a car with a loudspeaker saying ‘go, go’ and they (police) threw a grenade. ... and then I ran,” he said.
Footage he posted to Facebook shows another man armed with a broom as they try to help an injured man get to safety.
Diners at the El Pastor restaurant on Stoney Street also forced one attacker out by throwing chairs and bottles at him, after the man entered the venue and stabbed a woman in the chest.
Giovanni Sagristani, 38, told the BBC once the attacker was outside staff lowered a security gate and locked people inside.
A taxi driver is also being hailed as a hero after one woman said he saved her life.
“I was using a cash point at London Bridge, when a taxi driver swerved towards me, and screamed at me to RUN,” Rhiannon Owen recalled in a Facebook post.
“I turned and saw a man 3 metres from me, with a twelve inch blade, running towards me. I sprinted for my life.
“I saw a man get stabbed. Windows smashed, people screaming everywhere.”
Ms Owen said she ran to a nearby open-front pub called Applebee’s and screamed at everyone to run upstairs. About 40 of them hid in the storage room upstairs.
“Thank you to the taxi driver that screamed to run. I owe you my life,” she said. “He is being reported as a hero in the news, please help me find him so I can thank him.”

It’s not clear if it is the same driver, but one taxi driver named Chris told LBC he witnessed the attack and tried to ram the attacker.
“I said to the guy in my cab I was going to try to hit him, I was going to ram him. I turned around and tried, but he sidestepped me,” he said.
Staff at another restaurant Arabica Bar and Kitchen were commended for their bravery in keeping the attackers out.
Richard Angell, director of the think tank Progress, told The Independent that police ordered them to lock the door, causing chaos as about 30 diners tried to get to safety.
“This remarkable young waiter, who probably wasn’t being paid very much, positioned himself next to the door, put his foot behind it and wedged it closed.
“Everybody else panicked. Me and a couple of friends tried to calm the storm. We were trying to work out what was happening, stop people injuring each other as they were clambering to get away from it all, turning over tables.
“A member of staff locked the door. Despite the fact that their lives were at risk, the staff were concerned about our lives, which was a remarkable thing, and I will be going back not only to pay the bill, but also to double the tip.”

Mr Angell also described seeing a man who “turned out to be this hero” outside throwing chairs and a table at the restaurant opposite.
One man Gerard told BBC that he was throwing bottles, pint glasses, stools and chairs at the attackers as they ran into the pubs and bars on their stabbing rampage.
“I could not do anything. When you look at the CCTV, the police will, they will see me on the CCTV at Borough Market chasing them and throwing bottles at them and glasses. I know it’s a silly thing to do but I just tried to save people’s lives.”

    More on Geoff

He might deserve his own indie thread here. This is the type of heroism we strive for...

London Bridge terror attack hero Geoff Ho enjoying cult status as he 'joins Tinder from hospital bed'
The business journalist - who was stabbed in the throat while using his martial arts skills to tackle terrorists in Borough Market - has made a potentially life-changing decision

A brave journalist who took on the terrorists with his martial arts skills in the London Bridge terror attack has decided to join Tinder from his hospital bed.

A close friend of Geoff Ho says that - despite being left struggling to speak after being stabbed in the throat in Borough Market - he has made a potentially life-changing decision to join the dating app.

MirrorOnline revealed yesterday that the popular Sunday Express business editor was recovering in hospital after being hailed a hero for his actions on Saturday night.

There were concerns that he had been left unable to speak, but his friend Steve Dyson revealed last night that Geoff's now able to talk - and is now looking for love.

Mr Dyson posted online: "Just been to see Geoff Ho in hospital.

"He's now able to talk, is in good spirits and doing really well.

"He has also realised that due to his new found fame and hero status, it's now the time to strike and download Tinder.

"We love you Geoff, and are all thankful you're doing well."

The picture above was taken yesterday of Geoff in hospital recovering after he suffered his injuries.

Smiling, he has scars and bandages around his throat where the attacker struck on Saturday night.

Geoff was initially missing in the aftermath of the atrocity.

During the attack, terrorists rammed pedestrians using a van on London Bridge before going on a stabbing spree at nearby Borough Market.

Geoff bravely used his martial arts skills to confront the terrorists in a bid to save strangers' lives, according to his pals.

Friend Gary Robinson said: "Geoff update is that he is stable but can't talk. He IS a true hero.

"He took on the the terrorists when three rushed in stabbing people, using his martial arts, he fought them off.

"One missed him the other stabbed him in the throat (and possibly stomach). He was hurt protecting others."

He added: "He is in intensive care but 'doing well' according to the doctor. Unbelievable bravery. God speed your recovery. Geoff Ho, proud to call you my friend."

Another friend, named as Nadeem, said: "Many thanks for your prayers and wishes for Geoff today. I've also passed on your best wishes to his family who really appreciated all what you have said and done for their son.

"For those who do want to see him, please go but he will not be able to talk and is groggy.

"As mentioned Geoff is stable. He cannot talk though and will be monitored for a week as he has a tract.

"Dude is a legend who tried to help out the people who was being attacked. Bless him for his good natured heart

"It pained me to see what happened to him but he will get through. Love you brother."

Mirror associate editor Kevin Maguire had earlier written on Twitter: "Thinking of Geoff Ho and other injured. Told he was stabbed after confronting the murderers. Brave man."

His friend Isabelle Oderberg tweeted: "We have found Geoff. He is in intensive care. Thank you for the RTs and messages. I'll be going offline till I hear more."

She told The Age newspaper she would not be surprised if it turned out Mr Ho had got hurt while protecting others.

She said: "He is actually a martial artist and I wouldn't be surprised if he would have stood up and been counted because he's just that type of person. I'm just not even remotely surprised. This is who Geoff is and that's why we love him."

And pal Elisa Roche said: "If anyone is worried about the Sunday Express's Geoff Ho I'm pleased to say he is sitting up in his hospital bed within the past hour. He has been stabbed in the neck and can't yet talk. But it looks like he is going to be ok."

At least seven people are dead and more than 40 people are injured after terrorists rammed a white van into pedestrians on London Bridge before getting out and stabbing people in the street and the nearby pub.

IMO this man should be getting more publicity than the scum who carried out the attacks. I haven't heard him mentioned on any of the major news networks.

One or two of the London attackers were already known to police as Islamist radicals. Like seemingly every other terrorist who has carried out an attack in The West. Why am I not surprised?

    Slightly OT

Was it bamboo or rattan? Probably wasn't martial arts at all, but it was Chinatown.

SF Chinatown shopkeeper, 86, fends off intruder with bamboo stick
By Filipa Ioannou Updated 6:38 pm, Monday, July 24, 2017

San Francisco resident Thomas Baker, 49, was arrested after police said he tried to attack an 86-year-old store owner with a knife.

An 86-year-old San Francisco store owner defended his Chinatown business from an intruder armed with a knife by beating him back with a bamboo stick on Sunday, officials said.
A 49-year-old suspect, Thomas Baker of San Francisco, was creating a disturbance in the store on the 700 block of Grant Avenue about 3:51 p.m. when the octogenarian owner tried to get him to leave, according to the San Francisco Police Department.
Baker responded by punching the store owner repeatedly in the back of the head, police said.
The store owner then noticed Baker was holding a knife, according to police. He grabbed a bamboo stick and defended himself, hitting the intruder until he dropped the knife and ran from the store, police said.
Baker was later arrested and charged with aggravated assault, elder abuse and violating probation, according to Sgt. Michael Andraychak, a police spokesman.
He was on probation for a prior charge of assault with a deadly weapon, Andraychak said.
The store owner sustained a head injury from the attack but refused medical treatment, according to police.
“Fortunately, the victim was not injured too badly, it would seem,” Andraychak said.
