Video shows jewelry store owner pummeling 'stupid guy' with Israeli martial art Krav Maga

Police call him a robber but Hollywood jeweler Daniel Setton calls the man -- who walked into his business and tried to take a gold chain -- a disgruntled customer.

“It wasn’t a robbery,” he said. “He was just a stupid, a stupid guy.”

Surveillance video released Wednesday showed the man strolling into DHS Oakwood Jewelers at 2897 Stirling Road about 2:30 p.m. on March 2 and casually walking behind the counter.

“He bought a chain here, two or three months ago, and it broke and I said, ‘No problem, we’ll fix it for you,’” Setton said. “But he said, ‘No, I want a new one,’ and, ‘If you don’t give it to me I’ll take it myself.’”

He is seen going over to the display cases where the gold chains are kept, but the 74-year-old store owner cuts him off and gives him a lesson in Krav Maga, the martial arts Setton learned while in the Israeli Army.

“I didn’t expect I would have to use it one day,” Setton said, with a laugh. “But, what are you going to do? You have to protect your business. He didn’t give me another choice.”

Setton is joined by his wife and two employees who are able to fight off the man and prevent him from taking any jewelry. As punches are thrown, Setton’s wife is seen swinging a yard stick.

“My wife, she was hitting me more than she was hitting him,” he said, laughing. “I was screaming, ‘Stop it. Stop it. Stop it.’”

Hollywood police are trying to identify and arrest a suspected jewelry store robber who failed and fled.

The man seems to be subdued and confused as he leaves the restricted area behind the display cases.

He grabs his broken chain from the counter, walks out the front door of the business, and drives off in a gray-colored Honda, the videos showed.

Setton said his store was robbed of nearly $100,000 worth of jewelry Feb. 19, about 15 minutes before he arrived to work. Had he been there, he would have done the same thing.

“Listen, when you learn [Krav Maga], you do it so many times you cannot forget it,” he said. “It comes back to you automatically like you’re riding a bicycle.”

In this latest case, the man had large, multi-colored tattoos covering each upper-arm and shoulder and wore a colorful baseball-style cap and a light blue tank top with a green and white Rick and Morty cartoon on the front. He was also carrying glasses and wearing a red ‘Supreme’ shoulder-bag with a long red and white strap.

Investigators are hoping someone will recognize and report the man in the video to Hollywood police at 954- 764-4357 or 954-967-4411, or via e-mail or text to hollywoodpdtips@hollywoodfl.org.

Anonymous tips can be given to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 or online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
I found the video strangely satisfying.

More like a tie than a win.
They whaled on him forever and even hit him with a pole and he remained standing and walked away.Just as well he didn't walk in on those other guys, his passion might exceed his skills at age74.

we were in Hollywood for a couple of years...a bit further inland now.
Hollywood and Dania Beach just to the north are a big mixed bag of wealth and freaks.

the road that place is on is a major east/west artery.

It's also one of the largest concentrations of Jewish folk around here.
I guess it's not surprising there is an ex-Isreali military vet here or there.

TWIGGS COUNTY, Ga. — A Central Georgia man is charged with molesting his girlfriend’s 5-year-old daughter after an incident in Twiggs County last week.

According to a news release, the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Strawberry Lane around midnight Thursday for a call of ‘an unwanted subject on the property.’

When deputies met with the person who called police, they found out she caught her boyfriend molesting her 5-year-old daughter.

The woman also cut the suspect, identified as John Lawarren Williams, with a sword as he tried to leave the house.

Williams turned himself in to Sheriff Darren Mitchum around 6 a.m. that day. He was treated for a minor cut on his hand and then interviewed by investigators.

He’s charged with aggravated child molestation and two counts of cruelty to children. Bond has not been set.

'WHAT SAVED HER' Teenage girl uses karate moves to defend herself from would-be attacker who ‘followed and tried to grab her’ in Meath
Hazel Mulhern said her 17-year-old daughter Kate was walking their new puppy not far from their home when the incident happened yesterday
    By Louise Walsh

A WORRIED mum has urged parents to make sure their children can defend themselves after her teenage daughter managed to fend off a would-be attacker yesterday.

Hazel Mulhern said her 17-year-old daughter Kate was walking their new puppy not far from their home at Blackcastle Demense in Navan, Co. Meath at 2pm when the incident occurred.

Kate has a brown belt in karate

Unfortunately for the man, Kate is a brown belt in karate and has represented Ireland twice last year as well as competing in the World Championships in Tenerife in 2017.

Hazel said: "Kate had been walking the pup along the main Navan to Slane Road before she turned into the estate and noticed someone behind her.

"She knew something wasn't quite right so she text her friend to say that she thought a man was following her.

"She had turned into the estate near our home when the man overtook her and then turned back to try and grab her.

"Kate saw another man in a car parked nearby. The pup started growling and barking and whatever way the man grabbed her arm, Kate saw an opening and thankfully remembered her kempo training.

"She kicked him hard in the ribs and fell back against the car before getting into it and speeding off."

She said both men looked to be in their 40s with the attacker wearing a black hat and navy zip-up fleece. She said the car was an old black saloon."

Hazel is now urging parents to look into getting their children self-defence lessons.

She said: "My daughter is ok but very shook up. Please, please parents make sure your kids know how to defend themselves. It's so, so important because that is what saved her.

"She has competed at world level but it's a different story when you are placed in danger and panic sets in.

"Thankfully, she kept a cool head and all her training literally kicked into place.

The young woman trains with Paul Brennan, an Irish Kenpo Karate Union chief instructor in Dublin.

Meanwhile instructor Gerard Curran of Johnstown Kenpo Karate Club, where the teenager sometimes helps in sparring with younger children also encouraged parents to get their children lessons in self-defence.

He said: "It's terrible to think that any young woman should be put in danger like that but thankfully she is highly skilled and used those moves, the moves we also strive to teach kids how to defend themselves here."

Hazel said she reported the attack to local gardai

A female MMA fighter punched an alleged pervert she claims was performing a sex act while she was taking part in a swimwear photo shoot.

Joyce Vieira and a friend were taking pictures on the Praia do Braga beach in the town of Cabo Frio in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro when she said she saw a man masturbating.

The 27-year-old claims the man had his shorts down and was standing in front of her and her friend while performing a sex act on himself.

In images of her attack on the unsuspecting man, named by Brazilian media as Josenei Viana Ferreira, she can be seen launching at the shirtless suspect.

Dressing in a black swimsuit the martial artist took action by raining down a series of punches on the 26-year-old man, who was topless but dressed in swimming shorts.

Joyce Vieira is known as an MMA fighter in her home country of Brazil and has posted pictures of her MMA training regimes

The MMA fighter claims the man was standing with his shorts down as he masturbated during her swimwear shoot

She said: 'When I looked over there he had his shorts down and was standing on a path where people pass all the time, including children. He was visibly erect, making sounds and moaning.'

In the photos, the martial artist, dressed in a black swimsuit, can be seen punching Ferreira,

Vieira reported the case with police and Ferreira was later arrested for committing an 'obscene act' but has since been released after giving a statement and denying the crime.

After his release, Vieira told local media: 'We feel powerless. It's very strange because he's going to be in the same city as me, and who knows he might be in the same places.

'That's why I have received an innumerable number of messages from women saying that [in similar situations] they didn't file a report, because they know the suspects would end up being released. I think the punishment for these cases should be more severe.'

Vieira told police she approached the suspect but he would not speak to her so she began punching him

Vieira said she has received many messages from women who have not reported similar incidents to the police

Vieira says she had tried to speak to the man but he refused to speak to her so she reacted.

The Civil Police told reporters the suspect had claimed he 'was urinating' on the beach before Vieira approached him.

The Inspector Specialised in Attending to Women in Cabo Frio, Juliana Rattes, said the case will be taken to the Public Ministry 'who will act together with Special Criminal Court'.

MMA fighter Vieira, 27, who is a specialist in Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu, often posts videos of her intense training sessions online.

The case is ongoing, according to Brazilian media.

Thief tries to steal phone from Mid-City martial arts instructor - Bad idea

Surveillance cameras captured the whole thing
    Author: Osama Ayyad
    Published: 5:23 PM CDT April 25, 2019
    Updated: 10:18 PM CDT April 25, 2019

NEW ORLEANS — When a Mid-City martial arts instructor was approached Wednesday about lessons outside her studio, she didn't expect she'd have to demonstrate her skills, but the prospective student turned out to be a thief.

Surveillance outside of the 36 Chambers martial arts studio shows Meredith Livengood pull out her phone to show a young man training schedules, but moments later the young man snatched the phone from her hand and attempted to escape on his bike.

He didn't get very far. Livengood immediately reacted and put the thief in a martial arts hold, forcing him to drop the phone.

"I saw his phone had no signal, so I showed him our Instagram page on my phone," Meredith said. "I was trying to help him."

The video shows Livengood charge at the young man, and she shouts some things at him. Some of her students came to her aid, but she didn't seem to need it, as she stood between the students and the thief.

"Safety was a priority during the situation," Livengood said. "I wanted him to get to his bike and I wanted him to go. I wanted the whole thing to be over as fast as possible."

As the thief got on his bike and left, footage showed neighbors coming to help Livengood, who said the thief has a lot to learn.

"He underestimated his opponent," she said. "People underestimate women a lot, and they shouldn't."

"He stepped in the wrong garage!" Lo Floyd said.

Floyd lives next door to the gym and caught it all on surveillance video. He wasn't sure if it was real or not.

"But when I saw the anger in the situation and that's when me and my buddy ran down with my bat, but Meredith, she already had it taken care of," he said.

Floyd was blown away and says Livengood is his hero.

"The fact that I've already known she's a black belt, I knew it was in her. But, to finally see it, I'm not gonna cross her," Floyd chuckled.

During an interview, Livengood laughed while saying it's absolutely unwise to challenge a martial arts instructor.

Livengood says she never felt scared during the whole ordeal. Afterward, she felt empowered.

Mansfield jiu-jitsu students detain 'brick-throwing men'

    SHANE MILLS

The jiu-jitsu students used their skills to detain two men

Martial arts students called a halt to a class and ran outside to tackle suspected vandals after hearing bricks thrown at cars.

The Brazilian jiu-jitsu lesson at a gym in Mansfield was interrupted when the students heard a commotion outside.

The entire class, including an off-duty policeman, ran from the building and tracked two men down nearby.

Police said one man had been charged with criminal damage and another with theft from a vehicle.

Class instructor Shane Mills said: "Thinking back it must have looked quite funny seeing all my students running out in their kit to find them.

"They were already gone but two of my students - one of whom was an off-duty police officer - decided to take a drive with another man who'd spotted them to see if they could find them."

Nottinghamshire Police said a 32-year-old man had been charged with criminal damage and a 30-year-old man was charged with theft from a vehicle following the incident on 20 May.

They are due to appear in front of the city's magistrates next month.

A spokesman said: "Officers were called to Jenford Street following reports of bricks being thrown at parked vehicles.

"Two men were arrested by an off-duty police officer, who was assisted by members of the public, and have since been charged."

Firefighter Trained In Martial Arts Stops Would-Be Carjacker: PD

TAKOMA PARK, MD — A patient should never get into a fight with a firefighter — especially if that firefighter has a background in mixed martial arts. One D.C. man, however, had to learn that the hard way.

It all started on July 28 at about 6:30 a.m. Montgomery County firefighter Diego Peclat was standing by an ambulance outside Washington Adventist Hospital when a man — identified as 27-year-old Christopher Broadus — tried to carjack the vehicle, according to authorities.

Takoma Park Police say Broadus, who was recently discharged from the hospital, was being escorted off the premises by security at the time. He had just assaulted a nurse.

Once outside, the would-be carjacker jumped into the ambulance and tried to drive away.

"The guy went on and opened the car door, and I was like, 'Man, here we go,'" Peclat told WTOP.

Police say Peclat quickly sprung into action, but was assaulted by Broadus. The firefighter, WTOP reports, came back swinging — punching the man twice before slipping on a folder of papers on the ground.

Broadus then whipped out a knife and started to chase the firefighter, according to Takoma Park Police.

With the help of Washington Adventist Hospital security, Peclat was able to bring Broadus under control.

Broadus was subsequently arrested and taken to the Central Processing Unit in Rockville. Court records show he was charged with first-degree assault, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, and a handful of other offenses.

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A 60-year-old man told police that he thwarted a robbery in Warren due to his training in martial arts.

Police were called to Trumbull Regional Medical Center, where the victim went for treatment after he said someone tried to rob him in the Hot Dog Shoppe’s parking lot.

According to the police report, the robbery happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

The victim told officers that after he withdrew money from the Seven Seventeen Credit Union’s ATM, a man wearing a ski mask came from behind and put him in a chokehold. He then put a knife to his neck and told him to give him his wallet, the report states.

The victim, who told police that he is trained in martial arts, said he flipped the man over his shoulder and punched him several times in the face.

He told officers he broke the man’s nose, and the man ran away.

The victim said he hurt his hand in the fight, so that’s he went to the hospital.

The report only described the robber as a heavy-set black man, about 5-foot tall.
