    thanx for posting.

gun shu (staff), jian shu (straight sword).

long fist (chang quan) and tai chi.

single whip, golden pheasant standing on one leg, ban lan chui etc.

    luv Tai Chi especially.

it is not unusual to use wushu demo for entertainment

    it is so since antiquity.

soldier wore antler pretending to charge in yellow emperor period.

troops practice wushu to entertain the general, the king and the emperor.

    --

    cool.

dun like the costume for staff people.

these are individual wushu routines, there are also group staff formation for combat or gun zhen. but not shown, sort of disappointed.

Holy Kung Fu Disneyland, Batman wushu cats are great athletes...Real Gung Fu is not a dance, it is a skill of turning your body into a tool.

These guys bounce around awesome they have great foundation skills they dance well.

Instead of gymnastics to make your form look great, imagine if they mastered construction work...using your hands as hooks hugging 500 pounds to your dan tien as you walk up thirty flights of stairs all day. Jackhammering in a kneel horse all day trying to trim the concrete from the steps...putting in balcony hangers hammering from odd outsretched positions all day, these are the types of activities that created real street style chinese martial art. Imagine if they put that type of vigor into their performances. scholarly kung fu is wack...all the famous CMA's had some sort of wrestling skills type training.

Is there any good performances coming up in Vancity chinatown Firepalm?.

    Vancouver activities....

Hey Diego, there will be the usual parade in Chinatown on the coming Sunday, let's hope our weather turns out the way it did last year. Van has too much of the snow then rain then snow then rain thing the past couple of weeks.

There will also be the usual delugee of Lion Dance & Choi Cheng (grabbing greens) at the Shopping Malls & such.

Other then that no specific Martial Arts public performances that I know of.

Footnote on your comment about 'street style CMA'. Majority of the performers in the group stuff with the staffs & the tumbling (not the performers in the solo spots) all come from China's largest private school 'Tagou Shaolin Wushu Institute'. Tagou trains Sanshou fighters just as ablely as it does the 'acrobatic wushu' performers. In fact many of the private schools train their people in Sanshou, TKD, Wrestling and some are moving towards MMA. So don't take what you see from the performing aspect of such shows as the only thing China has to offer. China still has traditional, fighting and all the other aspects.

Thanks for the update on Vancouver's celebrations. I didn't get to look at the full clips yet, I'm just imagining the alternate dimension where the cultural revolution didn't happen and they have Olympic Hop Gar!!! I like wushu, it's just hard to get info on hop gar and I blame a lot of that on things like Comunists. peace

if you go to the bookstore in china town, you would find dvd for spring festival celebration CCTV show for each year.

it used to be one show that had everything.

now they are categorized into different shows.

I usually buy the show with classical music and drama/play or xi chu play and song.

modern one I dun like them too much.

however, for the autumn moon festival, cctv has the best show for modern chinese music and pop songs. you may find them on youtube, too.
