    Warning for British KFMers

    Check this out: http://www.variety.com/article/VR111...ryId=1009&cs=1

"U.K. to get tough on pirates
    Users could lose Internet access
    By GORDON MASSON
U.K.-based consumers who illegally download music and movies could find their Internet connections severed under new legislation that will be presented to the British parliament next week.

Under the proposals, Internet service providers would be legally required to take action against those who use their networks to download pirate content.

According to unconfirmed reports, the legislation would force the ISPs to issue a warning e-mail for the first offense, a suspension for the second infringement and the termination of their Internet contract if caught a third time.

ISPs that do not comply could be prosecuted and would be forced to make the details of suspected offenders available to the courts.

The legislation would affect an estimated six million Internet users in the U.K., but could save the film and music industries billions of pounds in lost revenues.

According to the Times newspaper, Britain’s four biggest Internet providers — BT, Tiscali, Orange and Virgin Media — have been in talks with the Hollywood studios for six months over a voluntary scheme.

But the U.K. music industry’s talks with the ISPs have been ongoing for a couple of years and the latest government proposals are intended to lead toward the introduction of new legislation in several months’ time."

There goes our big brother government again. Is there no where they wont infringe upon.

I can't blame poor people for downloading stuff for free. Its one of the few pleasures they can enjoy. Now that smoking is all but banned and drinking is becoming expensive. What cheap pleasures are left that can take people away from the drudgery of life?

Lets face it music and film are seriously over priced.

Having access to free 'art' actually improves a culture. It opens us up to ideas of the world and we can critically judge our own culture by other.

Perhaps that's why they are closing it down. If I want to watch an obscure Korean classical film criticising the west it will cost me £££'s whereas Hollywood cheese fests are almost free. So I will be stuck watching tripe, pushing the same old agenda down my throat.

Anyone know of any 'free' countries out there I can move to?
    Thanks

how exactly do you "catch" some random user dowloading pirated content?

AND if you can catch them doing that, why dont you start at the source and shut down the area they get it from.

what about person to person file sharing....isnt that ALL pirated content?

So do they just get happy with the ban button they catch anyone on p2p network?

    Freaking loony.

Ill be downloading tons of pirated stuff and then deleting it tonight just cuz i can.
For whoso comes amongst many shall one day find that no one man is by so far the mightiest of all.

usually the pirating music or video are not of good quality.

but most music video, you may watch on youtube for free.

you just favorite them and create a play list.

I may listen to all Elvis stuff on youtube.

even thou I have records, tapes, c d etc from him.

my point being that it is not worthwhile to download pirated content.

unless, you have mp-3 player or you want burn pirated stuff on cd and listen to them in a car cd player.

it is too much a hassle. I usually just buy the cd. if there is more than one songs that I like in the cd.

I can't see it being implemented. As someone said,it has huge ramifications for the ISPs- I daresay they would put prices up to pay for the extra work the Government makes them do.

Brilliant in terms of lyrics and song writing.....but mediocre in guitar/drumming compared to lets say...Led Zeppelin

Sonny & Cher just don't look like they want to be in the same room together, let alone sing a love song to each other.

George Martin WAS the beatles. They did change the landscape of rock and roll forever. There aren't many bands as forward as they were anymore. It's nice when someone comes along that is so stark ravingly different. That is what the beatles were.

having said that, led zeppelin is still an amazing band despite the loss of the original drummer.
