I read about this story years ago...Wong Shun Leung got in a fight and the guy palmed him...Wong tried jut sao but the palm slipped through bruising his rib...later Yip Man told him to use downward wiping hand.
The technique Gary Lam shows looks like CLF vs WC.

I have heard about Ip Man adding the lower gan to the form to stress the application.
