Let's see. African Americans gain equal rights about 50 years ago. True integration takes longer, and as I can attest, it's still going on. It takes at least thirty more years to get any sense of progress. Meanwhile, real estate drives up its prices, apartments raise their rents, in order to cater to a more "elite" and "socially-respectable" clientele (not to the average African American citizen). What happens, then, is that families start bunking up together in apartments to share the rent, leading to overcrowding and a lack of jobs. I used to live on Centennial Olympic Park Drive. I (white) couldn't afford the rent with my brother (also white), and it's a complex situated between three homeless shelters--and we were forced to move north to the perimeter. Not exactly prime real estate, w/ homeless all around. So where can locals go? Luckily, I have a car, so I'm mobile. So, college students (from two local universities with skyrocketing student bodies) start ransacking the complexes, backed by parents who can afford the rent. Meanwhile, the average working class cit is ****ed. But then with the building of hte Sixteenth Street Atlantic Station complex, and a series of townhomes all down Seventeenth, and one conveniently located beside the Centennial Place Apartments (catering to, oh, I'd say white people and affluent African Americans). So, after African Americans migrated to the city to get assylum from an extremely prejudiced and racially-hostile white aristocracy that controlled the country and hte hinterland, they are now fleeing from the city to escape economic persecution....but where? And what do the whites of the suburban settlement of Metro-Atlanta do? They complain about the influx of African Americans, hide their heads in the sand, and come up with any policy they can to keep AA parents from getting a hold of property, and gerrymandering the school districts to dump them all into target school districts that can't handle the economic pressure needed to teach students that have not recieved eductaion on par with white suburbia. A white suburbia that tolerates and celebrates "Wild Man's Confederate General Store" or whatever the **** that racist and pigheaded "The South Will RISE AGAIN!!" bumpkin calls his hate-factory (which sells racist paraphernalia), a local landmark.

But why don't the African Americans of the city just send their children to private school?

Inner-city schools have ****ty funding, ****ty facilities, and often get ****ty, unresponsive teachers. And when allotments go out for financial support, guess who gets screwed?

With the new migratrion from the economically unaffordable city to the confortable rents of suburbia, there's a shift in student distribution. So now students with poor education (not their own fault) are placed into suburban schools with higher standards, and the white public says: "Hey, who let the rejects in? I swear, these African Americans are just lazy...."

Plus, the average (non-car-owning) African American, who could use MARTA's transportation for getting to school or work, now has to rely on Cobb County Transportation, which has limited access and overcrowding issues. It was a boon to not have to pay for a car while living in the city, or for car insurance (which can be ridiculuously expensive, even for me--and I have a clean record). so what happens? Credit goes to ****.

And persons like yourself look on this and say: "Hey, it ain't my fault." Maybe not, but if you can't recognize inequality when you see it, then put it to the test. Give up everything but a month's rent and your apartment's application fees, give up your car, and then move downtown. Then, find a job within walking distance, and see if you can build your way back up to your current state with that good ole American Dream work ethic.

The sense of aristocratic entitlement, social irresponsibility, and economic supermanhood exhibited by Americans of today (right/left) is incredibly disturbing. Answer: it's the socioeconomic privilege of white liberals and white conservatives, and even black liberals, and black conservatives--those with power and influence.
