    Kurosawa and the like...

Kind OT, but what does everyone think of Kurosawa films? I've yet to watch any, but I plan to soon. Also, if anyone here watches Anime, I recommend Samurai X/Ruroni Kenshin OAV's, which are emotionally inspiring, IMO.

    Any other recommendations?

Kurosawa films are a work of art. each has its own mood. I recommend The Seven Samurai, Sanjuro, and Yojimbo.

Kurosawa is arguably the best director ever. His films are more works of art than they are canned commercial garbage--which is what Hollywood seems to put out more often than not. Go down to your local video store--not one of the "Blockbuster" variety--and rent a couple of Kurosawa films; you'll be glad you did.

I personally very much enjoyed his films:
"The Seven Samurai", "The Hidden(Dark)Fortress", "Dreams" and especially "Ran".

awesome filmaker with astounding insight to the human condition.

I would have to agree with the above comments. Akira Kurosawa was definitely a one-of-a-kind director who used epic storytelling and classy cinematography to make some of the most compelling movies ever. His movies have many layers to them and have alot of replay value. He very much deserved the critical acclaim that has been showered on him.
