    Best Fight Scenes?

    Who cares about the PLOT?

If a movie doesn't have good fight scenes, it's not worth watching.

The entire "Mystery of Chess Boxing" movie was a wonderful slam fest, but the last combat sequence (Ghost Face Killer vs. Chess King and Ah Fu) is KILLER!

Like "Chess Boxing", "The Buddhist Fist" is awesome from beginning to end and has an incredible final fight scene.

"Dirty Ho" is Gordon Liu at his best, as is "Master Killer".

'Last of the Mohicans' had some of the best and more importantly, believable, fight scenes of most movies I've seen. Really well done.

I tend to categorize fight scenes that don't dwell on any fantasy aspect as better than those that do, but that's simply my personal taste.

My favorite movie fight scenes include:

In the movie The Kid From Kwangtung (Shaw Brothers, 1982), the final fight scene where villain Hwang Jang-Lee fights Wang Yue, Yang Pan-Pan, and Chiang Chin (a pudgy kung fu actor).

Fu Sheng vs. Liang Jia-Ren in Shaolin Martial Arts.

Liang Jia-Ren vs. Chang Yi in The Victim.

Lau Ka-Leung (Liu Chia-Liang) vs. Eddie Maher in New Kids in Town.

Jackie Chan vs. Benny Urquidez in Meals on Wheels.

Jackie Chan vs. Ken Lo in Drunken Master II.

Ren Shi-Guan vs. Meng Yuan-Wen, Ching Siu-Tung, and Casanova Wong in The Master Strikes.

John Liu's final fight in Struggle Through Death.

Lau Ka-Leung vs. Wang Lung-Wei in My Young Auntie and also in The Lady is the Boss.

Meng Hai and Meng Yuan-Wen vs. Hwang Jang Lee in Hell'z Windstaff.

Gordon Liu and Wang Yue vs. Chiang Tao in He Has Nothing But Kung Fu.

Shaolin Drunk Monkey: opening scene with the two white-hair guys.

Shaolin Temple Strikes Back: after eating through hordes of Shaolin defenders, General Wong Yi gets easily beaten by an "old" Shaolin master.

The Karate Kid Part III: Miyagi toasts Kreese and his sidekick in an incredible display of traditional Okinawan karate.

Star Wars Episode 1: Darth Maul

    * #1 probably when Fei defends his fishing village from the evil troops and the 2 master swordsmen in "Moon Warriors". I think it's just the best of old-school and new-wave together.

    * Gordon Liu's friendly weapons sparring with the senior monk in order to earn promotion, and he ends up inventing the 3-sectional staff.

    * Jackie Chan Vs. Lau Kar Leung, spear vs. dao in Drunken Master II.

    * Jet Li's fight in the rain vs Iron Vest Yim in OUATIC 1--great music and it was filmed so cool.

    * The sword fight out in the open field in Last Hurrah for Chivalry.

    * The pre-credit sequence at the beginning of Shaolin and Wutang, with the Wutang swordsman taking on the Shaolin monks.

    * Michelle Yeoh and the other girl in the training courtyard in Crouching Tiger.

    (Obviously I prefer weapon fights)

I rented OUATIC a while ago

I loved that movie. The fight scenes were so emotional. It was just epic, I cared about the charachters. The setting and the music and the overall conditions leading up to the fight were what made it so good. Its realy the story that makes a good fight scene. A star can do anything in a scene but its all acrobatics untill you give him a pourpose. It can be funny or it can be heroic, but it has to have some sort of motivation to go along with it. Even the slapstick of Jackie Chan is at its best when it is involved in the story. Like the scene in Drunken Master II when his mother gets him into trouble by encouraging him to fight and get drunk.

I'm a sucker for tragic scenes or ones with a sense of biterweetness. Like the entire second half of Crouching Tiger, or even the final little fight in Last of the Mohicans.

HKV...I totally agree with the Conan fight scene!
    We also have...
    * The end sequence in Return of the 5 Deadly Venoms.
    * The Freddie Wong/Thunderfoot fight scene at the end of Drunken Master. His aunt in that movie also is amazing.
    * The scene at Yellow Hill in Crouching Tiger.
    * Sun Te w/ 3 sect staff vs. the monk with the butterfly swords in Master Killer.
    * The fight between Donnie Yen, the eagle claw witch and the scarred up monk in Iron Monkey.
    * End, AND beginning of Fist of Legend

    -....many more

Kato/Green Hornet vs. Batman/Robin: the Caped Crusaders get their asses handed to them.

Robin Hood (Costner): fighting little John with quarterstaves

Karate Kid: Darryl Vidal was awesome, though he got convincingly beat up by "Johnny"

Fist of the North Star (anime): THAT'S kung fu!

Yuen Biao vs. Frankie Chan in The Prodigal Son.

Yuen Biao and Samo Hung team up against Lau Kar-Wing in Knockabout.

Yuen Biao vs. Yuen Sum-Yi at the end of Dreadnaught.

Donnie Yen vs. Yuen Sum-Yi in Drunken Tai Chi.

Liang Jia-Ren going insane at the end of Thundering Mantis.

Billy Chong destroying the three villains in Super Power.

The final fight scene in Five Superfighters (a Shaw Brothers film).

Now for some non-Chinese fight scenes I liked.

Ray Liotta using a gun to smash in an @$'s face in Goodfellas.

Joe Peche's character and his brother getting what they deserve at the end of Casino.

    Boxing scenes in Raging Bull.

Steven Seagal finishing Screwface in Marked for Death.

Sonny Chiba's brutality in the original Streetfighter movie (1974). In this film, Chiba is so intense it's funny (but a bit disturbing, too, the first time you watch it).
