When Wing Chun Meets Systema, from Si Fu Leo Au Yeung.

    Hi folks,

Si Fu Leo Au Yeung recently toured out to Moscow to see what the world of Russian Systema had to offer, in order to compare & contrast the arts with his knowledge of Wing Chun...

    Here's the vid:

Any thoughts on this sort of cross-training with Wing Chun? Or general feedback?

    Cheers!

When would cross training ever be a bad thing?

I went through a bit of an RMA phase a decade or so ago, including seminars with Scott Sonnon and some training with a pretty good Kung Fu guy who had trained at Vladimir Vasiliev's school. The acrobatics IMO is not a seamless addition to Wing Chun but is fantastic solo training for my BJJ and general mobility and joint strength. RMA has breathwork, movement and alignment philosophies, etc. that rival anything in Qigong, Yoga, Emei 12 Zhuang, Snake Engine etc. in sophistication and complexity IMO. Russia and China share borders so there was always some crossover. Also, Russians are seriously tough.

Props to him for having an open mind, humble attitude, and willingness to remain a student for life.

This is interesting. Somehow I had not heard of or seen Systema before, but I like it, especially the 2nd guy. We have a lot of Russians in Seattle, I wonder if anyone is doing this out here?

My old WC (WT) sifu came from Hong Kong. I currently train with a kung fu brother who also trained WT in Europe. He was very influenced by Keith Kernspecht who took the Hong Kong material in a somewhat different direction. I don't know anything about Systema but there seems to be a lot of similarity:
