Punched by the Iron Fist, Grandmaster Pan

Just thought I'd share with you all a piece I wrote about getting punched in the noggin by "The Iron Fist," Grandmaster Pan Qing Fu. You can read it by clicking here:

Painful Memories of the Iron Fist

There's a link in the story that will take you to a Longer, more in-depth newspaper article/interview I wrote about Grandmaster Pan a couple of years ago (I live in the same city as him).

    Enjoy!

he asked me if I'd like to see a demonstration of his famous "iron fist" -- its knuckles calloused from countless hours of punching steel. I assumed he was going to break a brick or something. Instead, he punched me in the forehead.
    Priceless !!!

The article on Grandmaster Pan called "Within Earshot" is very good and tells a lot about GM Pan. The movie Iron and Silk is a great movie for that time. Every kung fu pratictioner should watch it.

the kid in iron and silk was a total ham actor. yikes. practically ruined it with his incessant whining voice and complaining and pent up teenage angst etc etc. lol

pan was an interesting character in that movie though. typical of chinese sifu in a lot of respects.

The guy that played Mark Salzman was Mark Salzman.

    More on Pan and Salzman

Here's our Iron and Silk thread. It explains a little more about Mark and his wife Jessica Yu.

Here are our two cover stories on Pan Qing Fu.
2000 February : Pan Qing Fu's Joint Locks: Qin Na's Paralyzing Grip by Dianne Naughton
1996 April/May : Iron Fist Master Pan's Champions by Dianne Naughton

Dianne Naughton can be seen as one of the students in that Talons of the Eagle clip above.

    And here's another Pan thread.

Seeing as "the Kid" was not an actor by profession and was the actual "Kid" who the story is about, I think he did an excellent job. Kudos to Mark Salzman, I've watched that movie many times over the years.
