so, I guess you don't have a real answer?

In looking around, I'm going to try and get a 3', a 4' and a 5'. Stopped by a tire place yesterday and they had just shipped out their junkers that morning. He said he'd be willing to give or sell some for cheap and to check back on fridays.

I did it for a bit, it was fun and great workout, can be a workout in of itself really.
MA wise I prefer throwing the throwing dummy, its more "sport specific".
But tire flipping, throwing, beating with a sledge hammer, with escrima sticks, with assorted wood land creatures and other forms of tire abuse, is great fun.

yea, at the moment I'm not worried about sport specific.

how big a tire did you use?

    how big are you?

I always run around the 165 to 175 mark and in that range I squat and DL 365 for a 5X5 Protocol, though I have been off weights for the last 6 months ( doing other stuff).
When I did tire training I would use a tire that was 2X my BW for endurance type and I would use the bigger ones for more "raw strength" type workouts.

BY the way, if you don't have the space to do tire flipping in the typical way, what you do is flip it, run to the opposite side and flip it back, run to the opposite and flipit back, etc, etc, etc.

I've got about 100' or so with an elevation difference of 5 or 6 feet.

I've got a plan formulating but it will take a few weeks to implement...pictures to follow once it's all done.

When I was working out with the strongman guys that summer, I think the one we had was 700... I'll have to go through my blog and check.

thanks. makes me think I need to find one about 400 for starters then.

i've talked to a couple of people I know and then there are the 3-4 tires just laying by the road a few blocks away...technically someones front yard I think...I've mentioned I live in a very multicultural area of town, right?

you can usually get tires for free. companies have to pay money to dispose of them, so they will give them to you and save themselves the money.

And yeah, I've heard about your town....

yea, I'm hoping to score for free but I'm willing to give $20 for a tire

hey, we are very multicultural here...I live within pistol shot of just about every diffent type of person you could ask for...I'm equal opportunity though and have claymores set up on all sides of the perimeter...wouldn't want to make anyone feel I wasn't paying attention to them, would I?

never thought about a tractor salvage yard. When I complained to a friend about not being able to find a sed tractor tire, she suggested just getting the biggest tire I actually could find and throwing it around like a huge frisbee. Then we grabbed a few spare tires she had laying around and proceded to test the theory that it work the legs, arms, abs, back, ect as well as just flipping a tractor tire. It doesn't, but it is a grat workout in its own right, is fun and your neibors will keep thier distance for a while.
