    Good Alberta Martial Arts Schools?

I am looking at the possibility of moving to Alberta / BC for work. IF I do this move I'll be in the market for a new martial arts school. Presently I'm blessed with a forward thinking kwoon that concentrates on practicality and application and if I could find one in the same vein I'd be happy but if people are aware of non-CMA schools with good reputations in the province and want to plug them I'm all ears.

In all seriousness, that is the only way, don't take anyone word for it because you have no idea what they are basing it on.

AB & BC are arguably huge places,

well if your a little more speciifc I can be too,

but if your lucky enough to end up in Edmonton then your in luck as you'll have two of the best Taiji teachers around at your disposal.

Sifu Andy Wong top student of GM Mak Ying Po (who is, I believe still alive in Edmonton)
Coming from GM Tung, they play the fast form and are serious about fighting.

But if you like Chen then,

Master Chen Zhonghua, I even heard one notable xing i sifu in NYC describe master chen as the best Chen style player in North America. I definitely think so.

    definitely check them out personally

AB Jing Wu is first rate, their Hung Ga is excellent and their GM was very gracious and kind when I met him.

There was also a full contact CLF/ Muay Thai school in Calgary until last year (or so I was told) the sifu relocated to Winnipeg but he should still have students teaching there??? Its worth a look as I heard good things at one point.

Like I said, I can recommend lots of schools all over BC but it depends ware your moving.

    all the best

Satori, are you referring to Simon Siu? I think he was teaching in Cow town not to long ago (http://www.jcsimon.ca/home.html). SimonM, if this is who Satori is referring to you could contact him to see if he has any students teaching here. There are some classes being taught out of the Chinese Cultural Centre, but I couldn't tell you how good they are. Like sanjuro mentioned, you're best bet is to go check them out.

Also, I think nospam's sidai teaches out of Edmonton (his contact can be found on nospam's website). You might want to contact him.

    Regards,

    Sung,
I believe that was the sifu I was refering to. I'v heard some good stuff about those guys,

as for Trevor Hove (Naya's Sidi) he has moved back to SK and doesn't teach publicly anymore.

Cool, thanks for the advice guys. I've been applying for a lot of jobs in Edmonton based on the fact that they seem to pay double what any other city in the country does for the same work over there. That being said I'm making no concrete plans to move until I nail down work. Hung Ga is one of my faves so I'll definately have to check out Jing Wu if I end up in Edmonton.

Typically the standard at Jing Wu is pretty good and they tend to like getting tested.
They are open to anythign you bring to the table, or at least that has been my experience at the local one here in Toronto.
