It's good some companies are profiting right now as the economy is not exactly rolling along just fine. Had they had layoffs, unemployment would be that much higher. Also, since they made money and thus did not have to borrow, that leaves more money banks can loan to struggling businesses in this credit-tight time.
Whether you like the oil companies or not, it's good news for the economy.

Depends on what it is spent on. If he has to raise money to pay off the debt, develop clean power, or to fund education, or get us out of Iraq and Afghanistan safely, I won't be upset.
