A former Ultimate Fighting Championship title contender convicted of attempting to sexually abuse a child has been deported to Brazil by federal authorities.

Hermes Franca De Barros, who formerly ran a martial arts academy in Clackamas, was escorted by U.S. Immigration and Customs agents onto a plane leaving from Seattle Tuesday.

    Clackamas County Jail

De Barros, 39, was charged in 2011 with sexually abusing a student at his Team Hermes Franca Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy. He turned himself in after an arrest warrant was issued.

In 2012, he pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree sexual abuse of a girl under 14 and to second-degree unlawful sexual penetration. A Clackamas County circuit judge sentenced him to 42 months in prison.

Last month, after completing his prison sentence, De Barros was transferred to federal custody at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma. Although he was lawful permanent resident, a federal immigration judge ordered him to be deported.

According to Department of Homeland Security records, De Barros was first lawfully admitted to the U.S. in 2005. He received lawful permanent resident status in 2007.

Since 2001, De Barros, who holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, competed in various mixed martial arts organizations, later establishing himself as an Ultimate Fighting Championship contender. In 2007, he fought for UFC lightweight title, but lost by unanimous decision. Afterward, the California State Athletic Commission announced that De Barros had tested positive for a banned steroid in a post-fight drug test. He was suspended from competing in California for a year and fined $2,500.

When arrested, De Barros was living in Jupiter, Fla.

Last year, ICE conducted 368,644 removals nationwide. Eighty-two percent of individuals removed from the interior of the United States previously had been convicted of a criminal offense.

    Renzo Gracie and Igor Gracie

What a bummer for the bouncer. Talk about a bad night on the job...
MMA fighters charged with pummeling bouncer

Two top mixed-martial-arts fighters — part of the famed Gracie clan — were busted for helping to beat a bouncer to a pulp outside a Manhattan celeb hangout early Monday, law-enforcement sources told The Post.
Renzo Gracie and his cousin Igor were arrested along with five other people for the 1:30 a.m. beat-down of Craig Molesphini, 35, outside 1 OAK in the Meatpacking District, sources said.
The victim suffered a fractured right arm along with bruises and cuts, sources said.
“I’m OK,” Molesphini said later Monday. “I have a slightly fractured elbow.’’

The hulking cousins — whose Brazilian family started the sports-promoting business Ultimate Fighting Championship — were charged with gang assault, as were the other suspects. The charge for Renzo and Igor Gracie is in the second degree, according to Fox Sports.
The pair were released on $10,000 bail.
The cousins hold black belts in karate and specialize in jiu-jitsu, in which arm and leg locks and choke-holds are part of the “submission-based’’ martial art.
“People who train this kind of stuff have no business getting into street fights — it’s completely unfair,’’ said a disgusted law-enforcement source. “These guys really should have known better.”

Renzo, 47, who lives in New Jersey, has a gym in Midtown where he trains top UFC fighters. A son of Robson Gracie, his last official MMA bout was in 2010.
Igor, 34, is the son of Rolls Gracie and brother of Gregor Gracie. He has a training gym in New Rochelle.
The thugs were busted in front of the trendy West 17th Street club, where celebs such as Jay Z, Beyoncé, Leonardo DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz hang out.

MMA bouncer brawl like ‘Enter the Dragon’

A celebrity club doorman allegedly beaten by two top mixed martial arts fighters said the scene was like something out of the Bruce Lee film “Enter the Dragon.”

Renzo Gracie and his cousin Igor — part of the famed Gracie clan — were busted by cops with five other men for attacking the doorman outside 1Oak early Monday.

Doorman and host Craig Molesphini claims the Gracies and five other men launched a “premeditated attack” after he turned two of their clan away.

Molesphini, 35, who suffered a suspected fractured elbow and shoulder, told us, “In my entire 14-year career, I have never seen anything like this. At 1:30 a.m. a gray van pulled up, parked in the middle of the street, seven men exited the vehicle and started creating mayhem, screaming, pointing, starting to pick fights with the security guards. One man, [who] I later learned was Renzo, came in my direction, threw the velvet rope on the floor, ran straight into my chest and knocked me back onto the concrete floor onto my elbow. He was on top of me for 20 seconds, trying to punch me, but I wrapped both my arms around his neck so he couldn’t hit me, before somebody pulled him off.”

He added of the brawl, “All of the seven men were fighting, doing MMA moves on the guards, some of whom were injured. When the police arrived, they tried to get away, but the cops parked in front of their van, which was waiting with a driver.”

He said the attack was “retribution for me not allowing two of their masters into the venue last week. This was a carefully planned and coordinated attack. The police arrested all seven of them.”

The Gracie cousins — whose Brazilian family started the sports-promoting business Ultimate Fighting Championship — were charged with gang assault, as were the other suspects.

The pair were released on $10,000 bail. Molesphini’s lawyer Salvatore Strazzullo said they were cooperating with the district attorney and could also file a civil assault claim.

He said, “This is a total premeditated gang assault and the individuals who conspired to do this are going to be brought to justice.”

A spokesman at the Renzo Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy declined to comment.

    Renzo speaks...

    ...and Renzo's lawyer cringes.
Renzo Gracie: I didn't punch club bouncer, because he 'chickened out'
    Marc Raimondi
    FOX SPORTS
    MAY 27, 2014 4:08p ET

Former UFC fighter and legendary MMA trainer Renzo Gracie was arrested last week on assault charges.

Renzo Gracie wanted to teach the bouncer outside of a New York City club a lesson. But he said he never punched him.

Gracie, the legendary MMA fighter and trainer, said to Ariel Helwani on "The MMA Hour" on Monday that the doorman at 1OAK was not letting people into the trendy hot spot, calling women "fat and ugly" in the early-morning hours of May 19. Gracie, who said he had encountered the man at the club one other time, said he would not stand for such "prejudice." He said the bouncer's words were worse than being called the N-word.

So Gracie said he took matters into his own hands, confronting the doorman, whose name is reportedly Craig Molesphini. The bouncer did not respond the way Gracie would have liked. Gracie said he took him to the ground and mounted him, ready to rain down punches. But Gracie said he never hit Molesphini, because Molesphini begged him off.

"I would never hit someone who chickened out," Gracie said. "He asked for a towel. He asked to leave (the fight). I couldn'€™t hit him."

According to reports, what transpired next was a scuffle between 1OAK bouncers and the people Gracie came with, including his cousins Igor and Gregor Gracie, both MMA fighters and trainers. The group was out that night celebrating the birthday of MMA fighter Andre Gusmao.

The police came and Gracie and the six men he was with were arrested on charges of gang assault, according to the NYPD. Molesphini reportedly broke his arm in the incident.

Gracie said calling it gang assault was "ridiculous," because it was never three or more men beating up one man, which is how the law is written in New York. Those charges were reduced at arraignment to misdemeanor (third-degree) assault May 20, and all seven men were eventually released on $10,000 bail. Gracie said he waited for everyone else to be released before he left jail.

"I couldn't leave them," Gracie said. "It was my fault I was in there. I was the one who lost my temper."

Gracie, 47, said no punches were thrown in the incident at all. He claims it was just a lot of pushing and shoving. Gracie -- who trains the likes of former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman at his New York academy -- said there is video proof of his side of the story.

He and the six others are due back in court July 17. Prosecutors still could charge them with a felony, according to the New York Daily News.

Molesphini's version of events differs greatly. He told the New York Post that he was attacked by all seven men, who jumped out of a van. Molesphini called it a premeditated, planned assault and compared it with the Bruce Lee film "Enter the Dragon."

"€œAll of the seven men were fighting, doing MMA moves on the guards, some of whom were injured," Molesphini said. "When the police arrived, they tried to get away, but the cops parked in front of their van, which was waiting with a driver."€ť

Molesphini said the "attack" was retribution for not letting "two of their masters" into the club a week earlier. Molesphini's lawyer Salvatore Strazzullo said his client could also file a civil assault claim.

Gracie said he did not break Molesphini's arm.

"I wish I did," Gracie said. "I wish I had done that. Because I'm being blamed for something I didn'€™t do."

Gracie said he could not let Molesphini continue his behavior toward potential patrons and said people "hate him" in the nightlife industry.

"A smart guy who knows how much they have to lose, they just walk away," Gracie said. "I can't do that."

    No parole for Louf

    Previous Louf report here.

    June 12, 2014
Martial arts teacher denied release again
    BY JULIE MANGANIS STAFF WRITER

SALEM — A judge on Thursday said no for the final time to a plan to release a mixed martial arts instructor accused of repeatedly abusing his girlfriend, leaving her disfigured and nearly blind.

Joseph Louf, 37, had been asking, through his attorney, for permission to live with his mother under house arrest while awaiting trial on charges that include attempted murder and mayhem.

He was arrested in March after the woman disclosed to family members that while she was living with Louf in Salem for more than a year, he beat her, forced her to engage in strenuous activity, and controlled her interactions with the outside world. She was left with two detached retinas, “cauliflower ear,” and a repeatedly broken nose, among other injuries.

Salem Superior Court Judge Howard Whitehead initially said yes to a plan for Louf to live with his uncle in Peabody, but when that plan fell through, the judge had second thoughts.

Those concerns were bolstered by new information recently obtained by police about two women in Florida with whom Louf had relationships, in 2004 and 2008.

The first woman contacted Salem police to report not only that Louf had abused her in a similar way during their time together, but that the relationship between Louf and his mother was strained as a result of childhood abuse by one of the mother’s boyfriends.

Salem police then contacted a woman who had obtained a restraining order against Louf four years later, and she offered a similar account.

Prosecutor Kate MacDougall vehemently opposed any proposal to release Louf to stay with his mother, arguing that the woman “is not capable of controlling his behavior,” and in fact is “very much tied into the defendant’s behavior.”

Louf’s lawyer, Ray Buso, called the prosecution’s characterization “very, very unfair.”

Whitehead, however, said he shared the prosecutor’s concerns.

The judge went on to note that he was troubled by the actions of Louf’s mother at the end of a recent hearing, when she “stormed” out of the courtroom when Louf was not released.

“You don’t do that in a courtroom,” said Whitehead. “You just don’t.”

    Joshua R. Grispi

Middleboro UFC fighter denied bail after vicious beating of wife
A former UFC fighter allegedly assaulted his wife twice in four days and had his bull terrier maul her.

Joshua R. Grispi, 25, of 15 Lovell St., Middleboro, is being held on $100,000 bail on domestic abuse and assault charges following his arrest on Monday, Aug. 4, 2014.

MIDDLEBORO – Dressed in her underwear and bleeding, Kaitlyn Grispi threw open her neighbor’s porch door Monday night, looking for a place to hide.

“Get in, get in,” she told her neighbor, who was on her on Lovell Street porch in Middleboro. “He is after me. He will find me.”

The neighbor quickly brought her in, shut off the lights and called 911.

Court records described the harrowing experience when Kaitlyn Grispi, 25, was allegedly running from her husband, Joshua R. Grispi, 25, a professional mixed martial arts fighter and former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) competitor.

Grispi is being held without bail on domestic abuse and assault charges following his arrest on Monday. He had been arrested just three days prior on similar charges and was released earlier Monday after posting $2,000 bail.

Kaitlyn Grispi’s leg was bleeding from bite marks from their dog, a bull terrier named Buddy. Her husband had trained the dog to attack her, police said in court records, and the dog was unleashed on Monday, causing bruises and scratches all over her body.

Joshua would often choke the dog unconscious after the attacks, court records show.

“It’s the worst case of domestic abuse I’ve ever seen,” said Middleboro police officer Richard Harvey. She had been “chewed up” by the dog, he said.

Monday’s attacks came two days after police visited the home Friday and arrested Joshua Grispi. Earlier on Friday, Aug. 1, Kaitlyn’s mother Karen Fava had gone to the Middleboro Police Department to show them a picture her daughter had sent on her phone. The picture showed Kaitlyn’s face with multiple bruises on her face and nose, and her bleeding lips.

Fava was concerned about the welfare of her daughter and two grandchildren, ages 1 and 3.

Police went to the house that day to speak with Kaitlyn and discuss what options she had.

When an officer asked her the last time Joshua had hit her she said, “yesterday,” court records show.

She immediately burst into tears when speaking with the officer and decided to get an emergency 209a restraining order against her husband. She also agreed to temporarily give custody of their two children to her mother.

Inside the house police found handguns, rifles, an assault rifle and ammunition all belonging to Joshua. Most of the guns were unsecured and some were sitting in boxes inside their bedroom, police said. Next to their bed was a playpen with their 1-year-old daughter inside.

Joshua Grispi has a license out of Plympton to carry the eight guns that were found in the house, police said.

From the Friday incident, he was charged with multiple counts of improperly storing firearms near minors, as well as assault and battery and was placed under arrest. The guns were seized and he was ordered to surrender any other weapons and ammunition as a condition of his release if he posted bail.

On Monday, Kaitlyn was supposed to extend the restraining order but didn’t do so because she “thought Joshua would be better,” court records show.

Joshua posted $2,000 bail after his arraignment Monday, and the two went back inside their white house with a white picket fence near Middleboro center. The children were still at Kaitlyn’s parents house.

Things deteriorated quickly as Joshua began to yell at Kaitlyn about a pile of wood he had been looking for, court records show.

“Kaitlyn said she ran down the street and hid under a bush and Joshua found her. Joshua then began punching her in the head and forced her into the home,” court documents show. “Joshua got her inside the house and kept punching and kicking her over and over. Joshua was yelling at her, ‘You want me to (expletive) kill you?’”

She ran into a bathroom, and Joshua sent the dog after her before she managed to get out of the bathroom and run out of the house to her neighbor’s home, police said.

Police responded and arrested Joshua again Monday night. Another search of the house found more ammunition, 20 marijuana plants, 15 grams of cocaine and two teacup pot-belly pigs being kept as pets in the basement.

The dog and pigs have been put in the custody of animal control.

Kaitlyn told police her husband had been abusive to her for the past two years in their three-year marriage.

“She had been afraid to come forward because she has been threatened that he would kill her and her family,” court records show.

Kaitlyn’s father, Joe Fava said Kaitlyn was back at their house Wednesday with a broken wrist and a concussion. Their focus is to be there for their daughter and grandchildren and to get Kaitlyn the help she needs.

“You read about stories in newspapers. We’re not used to anything like this,” Joe Fava said. “There’s no winners in this.”

Fava said Kaitlyn never told them of any abuse.

“I thought something was odd. I would just ask if everything was OK and she would say everything was fine. She wouldn’t tell me because she feared that I would be killed,” he said tearing up. “Some of the details that they said in court and watching somebody come out that I’ve laughed with and I’ve ate dinner with – that hurts, too.”

Grispi, who grew up in Rockland, is nicknamed “The Fluke,” and has fought as a featherweight in the UFC and World Extreme Cagefighting.

He was arraigned Tuesday in Wareham District Court and was ordered held without bail.

He will be due back in court Oct. 3.

Steroids and MA, never a good combination.
A very sad and pathetic display for anyone, much less a MA.

While it is tempting to beleive that this happens because Martial SKILLS are taught without Martial "VALUES", we should remember that we have enough TMA doing the same if not worse.

    ...if not worse

Actually, if we give a cursory comparison of this thread and our Busted-Martial-Artists thread, this one seems to have more violence - domestic abuse and fights - while the other seems to lean more to pedophiles. I keep meaning to back track and tabulate the numbers over each thread. Of course, this is not a scientific examination given that the source material is the web, mostly during the work week, when I'm not busy and have enough free time to read the newsfeeds.

Men who behave like that, who show their power by beating on those who are not capable of defending themselves are a piece of sh&T! If that is power to them then they have some serious issues. The sign on his T shirt about Alpha Male is another pile of BS! If you have to show it like dat, then you ain't what you claim. OK! Let see how Leeroy in jail can do for that Alpha POS.
I am disgusted at those kind of people! Just had to say it
