WOODWAY, Texas (KWTX) A Woodway officer was attacked by a man wielding a samurai sword during a weekend prostitution sting that led to nine arrests, police said Monday.

An image showing the attack from an officer's bodycam (left) and Billy Linkous (Jail photo).

The attack came after the man fled in his vehicle Friday afternoon in an attempt to escape arrest in the sting, police said.

Officers gave chase and the brief pursuit ended when the man’s car crashed into another vehicle in the 100 block of Taos Drive, a block off State Highway 84.

The man jumped from the car wielding the sword and a makeshift shield and as police approached, he swung the sword, striking one officer in the arm.

The officer was recovering in good condition Monday.

Officers used a Taser to subdue the man, whom police identified Monday as Billy Linkous, 27, of Axtell.

The attack was captured by officers' bodycams.

Woodway Department of Public Safety Chief Yost Zakhary said the officers showed restraint in dealing with the man.

"What we really fear and want to highlight is the officers and the dangers they face each and every day. I'm extremely proud of the officers, they showed tremendous restraint in the way they handled that situation when he came at them and was swinging that samurai sword."

Linkous was charged with aggravated assault on a public servant with a deadly weapon, evading arrest on foot, evading arrest with a vehicle, resisting arrest with a deadly weapon, unlawfully carrying a weapon, and prostitution.

He remained in the McLennan County Jail Monday in lieu of bonds totaling $133,500.

Police made eight other arrests over the weekend in the sting, which targeted both prostitutes and those who responded to online ads offering sexual services.

Eddie Lee, 23, Roberta Muniz, 30, Matthew Swisher, 39, and Stevan Tijerina, 25, were charged with prostitution, police said in a press release Monday.

Shalla Love, 25, was charged with prostitution and resisting arrest; Cesar Salmeron, 37, was charged with prostitution and endangering a child; Jennifer Davey, 32, was charged with prostitution and possession of a controlled substance under 28 grams; and Che Estrada, 43, was arrested on a criminal trespass warrant, police said.

    Mohiussunnath Choudhury = sword terrorist

Buckingham Palace: Terror suspect headed for Windsor Castle but found himself at pub of the same name

An Uber driver terror suspect arrested outside Buckingham Palace had originally headed for Windsor Castle but his SatNav sent him to a pub of the same name instead.

Mohiussunnath Chowdhury, 26, was taken into custody after allegedly driving a blue Toyota Prius at a marked police car outside the Palace last Friday.

Police said the suspect reached for a 4ft-long samurai sword and yelled "Allahu Akbar" as he was tackled by officers and sprayed with CS gas.

Three officers suffered minor injuries during the arrest.

Evidence taken from the dash-cam of the vehicle as well as the SatNav, appears to show that Chowdhury left his home address in Luton at around 6.30pm that evening after tapping Windsor Castle into the SatNav.

Almost an hour later, the car arrived in Windsor but, rather than the royal castle, it stopped outside a pub called The Windsor Castle.

Two minutes later, it was driven past the Victoria barracks in Windsor, home of the Coldstream Guards, but did not stop, heading instead to central London.

At around 8.15pm the driver arrived at Constitution Hill in London, not far from the Mall.

He drove around in a loop before the vehicle came to a stop by a police van and he was detained.

Chowdhury appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with one count of preparing to commit an act or acts of terrorism.

Wearing a grey prison tracksuit, he spoke softly but clearly to confirm his name, age and address.

Chowdhury stood with his hands clasped in front of him as he was told he would be remanded in custody and that the case would be transferred to the Old Bailey, where he would appear on September 21.

He shook his head as he was led out of the dock following the brief hearing.

Topeka Police: Sword swinging man suspected in downtown robbery

Topeka Police said a man was chased to the downtown Walgreens during a robbery by a man with a sword. (Luke Ranker/The Capital-Journal)
A sword wielding man chased another man for about a block in central Topeka Thursday morning during a robbery, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the downtown Walgreens at 10th and Topeka Boulevard just before 3:20 a.m. where they found a man who said he had been chased by a man swinging a 3-foot sword, Lt. Andrew Beightel said. He told police he had been robbed, but Beightel didn’t have specifics on what was taken.

The altercation started in 600 block S.W. 9th, the man told police, and continued to the Walgreens parking lot. No one was injured.

The swordsman was described as a black man wearing a red bandanna and white tank top.

He fled south along Topeka Boulevard, but Beightel said officers who searched the area, including a K-9 unit, were unable to find anyone matching the description.

    SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Spartanburg County deputies are investigating an incident in which they said a man admitted to throwing a Katana sword at a vehicle that he claims tried to run him over.

Deputies responded to a call on Ross Road on Wednesday.

According to the incident report, the victim saw a man trespassing on his property. The victim then chased the suspect in an attempt to identify the trespasser at which time the suspect got into the passenger's side of a gold Jeep Grand Cherokee, the report states. Another man was driving the vehicle and accelerated quickly to try to run over the victim, the report states.

Deputies said the victim told them he carried a Katana-style sword during the chase and threw it at the moving vehicle to distract the driver.

The SUV then swerved and hit a row of mailboxes before driving away from the scene, deputies said. According to the report, deputies did find visible damage to the mailboxes.

The suspect has yet to be identified.

Kevin King sentenced to 10-20 years for sword slaying

Man sentenced to 10-20 years in Blairsville homicide case
    By CHAUNCEY ROSS chauncey@indianagazette.net Aug 29, 2017 Updated Aug 30, 2017 (1)

A key figure in the 2014 murder of a Blairsville man was ordered Monday to serve 10 to 20 years in prison under a plea agreement with Indiana County prosecutors, just days after his testimony helped to bring a second-degree murder conviction against one of his co-defendants.

Kevin King, 34, of Altoona, pleaded guilty to third-degree murder for the grisly sword-slaying of Tyron Howard, a drug dealer, in his apartment at 122 S. Stewart St. on Sept. 29, 2014.

After trial attorneys cited King’s cooperation with prosecutors and asked for a reduced sentence, Indiana County President Judge William Martin blasted the deal as “maybe one of the worst plea bargains I have ever seen.”

State police charged that King and his stepbrother, Michael Eades, of Tyrone, along with their cousin, Deandre Jones Jr., of Baltimore, and King’s friend, Stanley Boynton, of Altoona, drove together to Howard’s apartment in a plot to rob and kill him. Troopers charged each with murder, robbery, conspiracy to homicide and conspiracy to robbery.

King and Boynton cooperated with police and pleaded guilty to reduced charges while prosecutors brought Eades and Jones to separate trials this summer.

Prosecutors accused Eades of masterminding the scheme, and charged that King partnered with Eades to orchestrate a search of Howard’s apartment and took part in the killing. Boynton and Jones were told to help gather money from a bedroom, and Jones admitted that he tied an electric cord around Howard’s wrists to restrain him, according to the D.A.’s office.

King testified he stabbed Howard once or twice with a sword from a display rack in the apartment, and that Eades took the blade from him, repeatedly stabbed Howard in the back and left the sword embedded in the back of Howard’s skull.

Howard, 37, was discovered dead by friends two days later.

Investigators said the men shared more than $40,000 stolen from the apartment.

In his trial in June, Eades claimed that he rode with the group to Howard’s apartment but stayed outside in his vehicle while the others went inside to buy drugs. A jury convicted Eades of involuntary manslaughter.

Last week, a second jury ignored Jones’ story that he didn’t take part in planning the robbery and acted under duress when he bound the victim’s hands. The panel found him guilty of second-degree murder, which carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison.

King’s defense attorney, Brad Ophaug, cited King’s testimony in the two trials and asked Martin to sentence him in the “mitigated” range of 10 to 20 years under sentencing guidelines.

King quietly mentioned “apologize” in remarks mainly unintelligible from the spectator seating.

“He took responsibility from the first police interview,” Dougherty said, agreeing with Ophaug’s request. “Without his cooperation, we would have had circumstantial evidence at best. We have two other convictions because of his cooperation.”

Martin expressed dismay that he had accepted King’s plea in late June but wasn’t told at the time about a reduced sentence. He made it clear that he disagreed.

“After hearing all the evidence, it’s clear to me and to all except perhaps the district attorney that you are the one who stabbed Mr. Howard more than 30 times,” Martin told King. “This decision flies in the face of the evidence.

“The commonwealth proposed that Mr. Eades had killed Tyron Howard. The jury followed the law and convicted him of involuntary manslaughter.”

Martin acknowledged King’s trial testimony against Eades and Jones.

“You have been truthful in saying that you make your living selling drugs and that you went to Blairsville to get money,” Martin said.

Reluctantly, the judge said, he accepted the lawyers’ recommendation for the shorter sentence.

King is ineligible for corrections programs that would qualify him for early release, Martin said. In addition to the prison time, he ordered King to pay $627.26 in costs of prosecution and said he has 10 days to appeal the sentence.

Boynton, who claimed in his trial that he fled from the apartment when he saw King stab Howard, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. He and Eades both are scheduled for sentencing on Sept. 8.

Jones will be sentenced on Oct. 30.

    Follow up on Ricardo Medina

This is a little dated, but it just came to my attention over last weekend.

Previous Red Ranger posts about this here & here.

‘Power Rangers’ TV Actor Admits Killing Roommate; Faces 6 Years Behind Bars
    by Dominic Patten
    March 16, 2017 12:25pm

Over two years after Ricardo Medina’s roommate was stabbed to death, the ex-Power Rangers actor pleaded guilty today to killing Josh Sutter. With sentencing set for March 30, Medina could face up to six years in state prison.

While no picnic, to say the least, that’s a far cry from the life sentence Medina was looking at when he was arrested on a murder charge in January 2016. That charge could have seen him behind bars for 26 years to life.

The actor, who played Cole Evans aka the Red Wild Force Ranger in the 2002 series Power Rangers Wild Force, entered his plea to a lesser charge of “one felony count of voluntary manslaughter and admitted an allegation of using a sword in the killing,” the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said Thursday.

Back on January 31, 2015, Medina and Sutter got into an argument concerning the former’s girlfriend. As things unfortunately escalated, Medina grabbed a sword they had around the apartment and started repeatedly stabbing Sutter, who died soon afterward.

Picked up by the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department for the killing that day, the Power Rangers alum was released after a court hearing soon afterward because the case was rejected. At the time, the DA’s office said the matter still was being investigated and that it would not rule out going after Medina again down the line – which it did on January 14 last year, with a new murder charge and bail set at $1 million.

“I’m very, very, very sorry for what occurred,” said Medina when he was first let out in February 2015. “I’m very happy to be out of jail, and my heart goes out to the Sutter family.”

After playing Red Wild Force Ranger on Fox Kids and ABC Kids’ Wild Force, Medina got a second kick at the Power Rangers can in 2012. He returned to the brand, which had been bought back from Disney by Haim Saban, in 2011 for Power Rangers Samurai. That season of the Power Rangers was actually split in two, with Power Rangers Super Samurai making up the second set of 20 episodes in 2012.

Deputy D.A. Tannaz Mokayef with the Major Crimes Division is handling the Medina case for D.A. Jackie Lacey’s office.

Meanwhile, the latest iteration of the long-running franchise, director Dean Israelite’s Power Rangers, hits theaters March 24 via Lionsgate.

How the HELL does this guy murder his roommate by repeatedly stabbing him with a sword, and get only 6 years in prison?!? It was obviously a case of overkill.

There's guys who are doing 20 years for running a pot dispensary!

    Here's a domestic abuse case.

Woman pleads guilty to slaying of boyfriend with sword

Police ID man allegedly slain with sword by girlfriend during domestic altercation in west Tulsa

Woman accused of stabbing boyfriend with sword is charged with murder

A Tulsa woman pleaded guilty last week to a lesser charge in the homicide of her boyfriend, which reportedly stemmed from a domestic altercation in early June.

Micca Lois Thompson, 38, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the heat of passion, possession of a controlled drug and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to court records.

A Tulsa County district judge sentenced Thompson to seven years in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. Prosecutors initially charged Thompson with second-degree murder in the June 1 stabbing death of Ronnie Beetz, 36, her boyfriend.

Thompson used a samurai-style sword to stab Beetz in the stomach in early June at their Parkview Terrace apartment, located in the 1600 block of West 59th Street.

Thompson reportedly swung the sword at Beetz after he choked and slapped her. She struck Beetz in the abdomen. When police arrived, they found the two in their apartment living room.

Beetz was taken to a hospital, where he was initially assessed to be in critical condition. Medical staff pronounced him dead about 3:30 a.m. June 1.

Police said on June 1 that Thompson had no visible injuries. Beetz and Thompson had lived together for 15 years and had children.

Man on drugs brought knife to fight a guy armed with a ninja sword, police say
    BY ROB PARSONS
    rparsons@mercedsunstar.com

    SEPTEMBER 11, 2017 4:47 PM

Two men face possible assault charges in connection with a violent altercation last week that Atwater police described as a drug-fueled sword fight.

Investigators initially were told two men suffered stabbing and cutting injuries around 1 a.m. Sept. 5 in the area of Swaps Street. Both men reported their injuries separately and were uncooperative with police, Chief Samuel Joseph said.

Detectives, however, later confirmed both men — 36-year-old Shaun Kincade and 25-year-old Serafim Aguilar — were in a fight, according to police.

Police believe Kincade may have been armed with a knife and Aguilar was armed with a “Katana-style sword,” Joseph said.

Kincade denied having a knife during the fight, police said.

Officers said the violence appears to have centered around Kincade’s wallet. Kincade believed Aguilar had stolen his wallet on Sept. 4 at Maria’s Taco Shop in Merced. The following night, Kincade and his girlfriend were “smoking methamphetamine and set out to find” Aguilar.

“They found (Aguilar) sitting in a car outside of his apartment,” Joseph said. “So (Kincade) went up to the driver door and began striking it with his backpack causing it to shatter while accusing the guy of having his wallet.”

According to police, Aguilar apparently had the sword in the car and “grabbed it to defend himself.”

“He got out of his car and said (Kincade) was swinging the knife at him so he used the sword in an act of self-defense and struck (Kincade) on his head,” police said.

Kincade suffered a “very serious, deep laceration to his head,” but is expected to recover, Joseph said.

No weapons have been found and neither man has been arrested, officers confirmed.

Atwater police said they will ask the Merced County District Attorney’s Office to review the case and consider filing criminal charges.

Taiwan samurai sword attacker charged with attempted murder

    13 Oct 2017 02:11PM (Updated: 13 Oct 2017 10:27PM)

TAIPEI: A man who used a stolen samurai sword to attack a military police guard outside Taiwan's presidential office in August has been charged with attempted murder, prosecutors said Friday (Oct 13).

Wielding the sword and carrying the national flag of China, Lu Chun-yi slashed the guard, who was trying to prevent him from entering the complex, in the neck, face, and hands, before being arrested.

The 51-year-old, who has been detained since the Aug 18 attack, has said he wanted to fly the Chinese flag in the presidential office, and was carrying hand-written notes threatening to "behead" President Tsai Ing-wen.

The notes, found in his backpack, also expressed his willingness to die as well as his hopes for China to unify Taiwan soon, according to prosecutors.

Taiwan is a self-ruling democracy, but Beijing still sees the island as part of its territory to be reunited even though the two sides split in 1949 after a civil war.

Relations with China have deteriorated since Tsai took power last year as she has refused to agree to Beijing's stance that Taiwan is part of "one China".

Prosecutors sought a seven-year jail term for Lu, saying that he has shown no remorse for his actions.

"(Lu) tried to portray himself as a martyr to justify or heroise his criminal behaviours," the Taipei district prosecutors' office said in a statement.

Lu was also charged with five lesser offences including theft, as he stole the samurai sword from a military history museum by smashing a display case with a hammer.

The sword is carved with the phrase "Nanjing battle, (this sword) killed 107 people" and is believed to have been used by Japanese soldiers during the Nanjing massacre in 1937.

The presidential office complex and its surroundings in the centre of the capital have been the target of attacks before.

In 2014, a driver tried to smash his vehicle into the front door of the nearby presidential residence, several months after a man rammed a huge truck through a bullet-proof screen and into the main gate of the presidential office.

There were no injuries from either incident, apart from one of the drivers who was hurt.

By far the best use for a samurai sword I can think of - lopping off alien heads.

John Edmonds, owner of the Stardust or Alien Ranch, listed his Buckeye, Arizona home for $5 million but warned of alien and paranormal activity

For Sale: Ranch home, attacked regularly by aliens. Bring your own sword.
    BY SCOTT BERSON
    sberson@ledger-enquirer.com
    OCTOBER 24, 2017 8:46 AM

Are you in the market for a ranch home? Would you enjoy being an easy drive from Phoenix? Do you want to slay malevolent aliens with a samurai sword?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, the Stardust Ranch, on sale now for $5 million in Buckeye, Ariz., may be just for you.

According to the listing from WestUSA Realty, the home includes 3,500 square feet of living space, RV hookups, gated entry, stables, air conditioning and the possibility of persistent visits from extraterrestrials.

The home, which has earned itself the nickname “Alien Ranch,” is known for its reputation as a hotspot of alien activity. Its owner, John Edmonds, told the Travel Channel he has killed 18 extraterrestrials with a samurai sword while living in the home. He calls the aliens “greys” -- meaning they fit the archetype of an alien with grey skin, a bald head, short stature and big, dark eyes.

Ever since they moved into the house 20 years ago, the owners “have experienced a series of strange events that continue to this day,” the listing says. According to Edmonds, that doesn’t just mean seeing some weird lights in the sky. It means engaging in armed combat.

On his Facebook page, Edmonds even posted a photo showing injuries he received while fighting a “malevolent ET.”

“When we moved in, the people we bought the house from hadn’t moved out. They had just disappeared, and all their stuff was still in the house,” Edmonds said on the Travel Channel show “Ghost Adventures” in 2016. “So that was the very first thing.”

Edmonds then described a time when he walked in on three aliens levitating his wife off her bed. He grabbed a samurai sword and killed the aliens, he told the interviewer, something he says he’s been forced to do again and again. “If you don’t take the heads, they disappear,” he explained, when asked where the bodies were.

Another time, he told interviewers his wife’s body was levitated down the hall, out into the yard and then up into a ship. “There was a cone of light, it came down, and she started to rise into that cone of light. I grabbed an AK-47 with a double banana clip in it, and I went outside and I opened up.”

All that aside, the home does include a swimming pool. “This is truly a one of a kind property with unlimited potential,” says the home listing.

As for Edmonds, who runs a horse rescue on the ranch called Hopeful Hooves, he told USA Today he plans to sell the property and move to Maine to start another rescue -- this time without any alien interference.

Samurai sword expert killed himself in act of ‘seppuku’ in his bedroom
    Richard Hartley-Parkinson for Metro.co.uk

Alun Jones was a samurai sword expert who worked in Japan (Picture: Wales News Service)

A samurai sword expert took his own life using his weapon in the traditional act of seppuku. Alun Jones, 51, was found by his mother Margaret on the floor of his bedroom covered in blood. Mrs Jones said that he was lying on top of his sword with his arms above his head after killing himself while visiting her during a regular trip back to the UK from Japan where he sold samurai swords. An inquest heard that he was ‘not his usual self’ during his trip back to Newport, south Wales. His sister Marianne Caulfield said: ‘For many years he had lived abroad and when he came home he would go out visiting friends. He impaled himself on his own samurai sword in his bedroom during a trip to see his family (Picture: Wales News Service) ‘But this time he had lost weight and spent most of his time in his bedroom. He had a collection of samurai swords and had developed an interest in the samurai tradition.’ A few hours before he was found dead he was seen by a neighbour asleep on a sofa with an open book of family photos next to him. Man arrested after slamming car through railing and into basement of home DC Rhys Williams told the inquest that Mr Jones had a passion for samurai swords. He had sent them to a specialist in London for work to be done on them and had received them back shortly before killing himself. The inquest heard that Mr Jones had died from lacerations to the heart and liver after stabbing himself in the stomach. Gwent senior coroner David Bowen said: ‘He had a collection of samurai swords which he sent to a specialist in London and had been returned days before he was found dead. ‘He was found with the samurai sword underneath his body and I am satisfied it was self inflicted. ‘In Japan the samurai tradition is called hara kiri. In this country it is suicide.’

What is seppuku? Seppuku is a form of Japanese ritual suicide by disembowelment using a samurai sword. It is seen as an ‘honourable’ death rather than falling into the hands of the enemy or is carried out because someone has brought shame upon themselves. It can also be known as harakiri, which literally translates as ‘cutting the stomach’.

Kenneth Wayne Lockings Jr. is facing a murder charge.

A Houston man has been charged with murder after authorities said he "nearly" decapitated his girlfriend with a samurai sword Wednesday night near Independence Gardens.

Kenneth Wayne Lockings, Jr. turned himself in following the gruesome slaying, court records show.

Police responded to a call about a possible "cutting in progress" in the 10200 block of Tangiers around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, officers found 36-year-old Aracely Jernigan dead in the living room.

It was not immediately clear what led to the slashing.

Just hours earlier, the 45-year-old had stopped by his grandmother's house for coffee, the elderly woman told the Chronicle.

Marie Carrier, who lives next door on Tangiers, said she was unaware of what happened in the hours after Lockings left her home, but said it was well-known he had mental issues.

"He's really messed up in the head," she said.

He'd received the sword as a Thanksgiving present, the grandmother said. She also said Jernigan had been living with family in Mexico for a few months, and had only recently returned to Houston.

The suspect's family members initially found him at the scene and helped Lockings turn himself in at the nearby police station, where he was interviewed, arrested and charged, according to police.

Charleston, SC — A hammer and sword-wielding West Ashley woman has been convicted of Criminal Domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature. According to court documents, 25-year-old Katherine Seabrook wasn't actually in attendance for the verdict. Her sentence will be sealed until she either appears in court is apprehended.

Charleston police say on May 31, 2015, they got a call from Seabrook. She had gotten into an argument with her boyfriend that escalated. She began destroying his things before coming after him with multiple weapons. These included a spiked war-hammer and a Japanese Katana sword that belonged to her boyfriend. According to police, the victim avoided the weapons but Seabrook threatened to "ruin his life" by falsely telling police that he had abused her.

Her boyfriend was able to record the incident. Court documents show that direct quotes from Seabrook were played for the jury. She could be heard saying, "I am going to lie on you. I am."

Solicitor Scarlett Wilson encouraged all victims of domestic abuse to come forward. "Though most of our domestic violence victims are women, men can be attacked and victimized, as well. It is important for any victim of abuse to work with law enforcement and with us so that we can investigate and prosecute domestic abusers."

Boulder police arrest sword-wielding man who cut another man
New Orleans man arrested outside Boulder hotel with sword, knives and pellet gun

The victim who police say was cut by a samurai sword-wielding man in Boulder on Wednesday was injured with his own weapon — and previously had been arrested while practicing with the blade outside a hotel last month.

Cody Scott Parker, 26, faces a first-degree assault charge, and a woman in his company, Aneta Urban, 38, faces a conspiracy charge after police say Parker cut Christopher Dassau, 35, on his hand.

Christopher Dassau (Boulder County Sheriff's Office)

According to an arrest affidavit, Dassau told police he was walking in the 1400 block of Canyon Boulevard around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday with his katana-style sword strapped to his back, the way officers had instructed him to carry the blade legally after his arrest in January.

In that case, Dassau is facing a charge of carrying a concealed weapon in connection with knives he also was carrying at the time.

Dassau told police that he felt someone tugging on the sword and turned around to find Parker had pulled it away from him. Dassau said Parker told him, "You got my (expletive) old lady jumped," and then said, "I'll (expletive) kill you."

According to the affidavit, Dassau said Parker then stepped toward him and hit him with the sword on the upper left thigh, but the blade only caught his clothing.

Dassau said he kept stepping back, but Parker followed him. Parker then raised the sword and Dassau tried to catch it, according to the affidavit, resulting in a large gash between his thumb and index finger that required 16 stitches.

Dassau told police that Parker started running and met up with a woman later identified as Urban, who told Parker, "Baby, take the bike, get out of here. You did what I told you to do."

Urban reportedly had gotten into an argument a few weeks ago with Dassau's fiance that resulted in police being called. Dassau told officers that Urban made up a story that got his fiance cited.

Police initially were not able to find Parker, but located Urban, who was uncooperative with officers. They released Urban in the hopes that she would lead them to Parker, which she did, according to the affidavit.

Both were located and arrested near 13th Street and Arapahoe Avenue.

Parker refused to speak to police officers.

Both he and Urban remain in custody at the Boulder County Jail and appeared in court there on Thursday.

During that hearing, defense attorney Emily Briggs said that while both are currently homeless, Urban has been in Colorado for more than 10 years while Parker has been in the state since 2016.

But Boulder County Deputy District Attorney Mark Grimaldi asked for a higher bond, noting the seriousness of the charges against Parker.

"He took a weapon from a stranger, at that point, and took several swings," Grimaldi said. "This is clearly a community safety issue."

Grimaldi also said Urban has failed to appear in court six times in previous cases.

Boulder County Judge Noel Blum set Parker's bond at $15,000 and Urban's at $2,000, and scheduled them to be formally charged on Tuesday. Neither is permitted to contact Dassau, who could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Dassau posted photos of his injury to his Facebook page, and wrote, "I'm going to be OK."

He's due in court March 2 on his concealed-weapon case.

Following his January arrest, Dassau — who is from New Orleans — told the Daily Camera he carried the weapons because he and his fiance had been threatened on several occasions while smoking outside the hotel, where he had been staying for several months.

"I felt like I didn't want to be bullied," Dassau said. "It was mostly for show so I could keep the guys who were harassing me at bay. It wasn't any crazy stuff."

SHOCKING: 20-year-old Sadiq Aadam was murdered in Camden

Sadiq Aadam, 20, became the third person in his family of the same age to be murdered in just five years.

Detectives fear gang turf wars are out of control. Sadiq was attacked by a group of four in Camden, north London, on Tuesday.

One witness said: “The blood was gushing out and people were desperately trying to stop it.”

Sadiq’s brother Mohamed Aadam, 20, was murdered in the same area in September.

Two hours before Sadiq died, Abdikarim Hassan, 17, bled to death after being ambushed in Kentish Town at around 8.30pm.

One witness said: “His mum saw him die. What do you say to someone who just watched their child die? He’s 17 – he’s just a baby.

“He just went to the corner shop to get a drink and now he’s just lying there.”

    SALINAS, Calif. —
A man who was shot while allegedly wielding a sword at three Salinas police officers was identified by investigators Tuesday.

Javier Rodriguez is still recovering in a hospital from gunshot wounds after his Friday night clash with police at his home on the 700 block of Jefferson Street. He is expected to recover.

Monterey County Assistant District Attorney Berkley Brannon said the DA's investigators interviewed Rodriguez in his hospital room Tuesday.

The two Salinas Police Department officers who shot Rodriguez have not been identified, and they were not injured in the officer-involved shooting.

They went to Rodriguez's house at 8:45 p.m. Friday because Rodriguez called 911, Brannon said .

He was in a heated argument with his girlfriend, Brannon said. Witnesses told police that Rodriguez fired a shotgun into the air during the argument, and he was bleeding.

When police arrived, they could hear a woman screaming inside the house, Brannon said.

Three officers decided to enter the home by opening a backdoor. When they did, they saw Rodriguez holding a knife, and he shut the door.

When officers opened the door a second time, Rodriguez was wielding a sword. The officers were only a few inches away from the sword, and they feared for their lives, Brannon said.

Two officers opened fire. Despite being shot at least twice, Rodriguez remained on his feet. He was finally overpowered by a Taser, and was taken into custody.

Salinas police arrested Rodriguez at the hospital. The District Attorney's Office has not decided what, if any, criminal charges will be filed against him.

The officer's body-worn cameras recorded the shooting, but a request from KSBW for copies of the videos was declined by the DA's Office Tuesday.

One of the officers who fired is a sergeant with 15 years on the force. The other officer has been with the SPD for two years.
