in europe, gas has been 5 bucks a gallon for over a decade, it's actually more than that.

Food is expensive everywhere, far more expensive than what you find in the huge big box stores and malls of america.
you know, i don't really care what the rest of the world is like. that doesn't mean I don't realize that it's pretty **** good here, all things considered, or that it's pretty **** bad elsewhere or that there are a lot of people in a lot worse situations.

but, just like some other poor schmuck living somewhere else, I didn't exactly chose to be born here or grow up here...but here is where I am and for me, just like any other poor fool living largely at the bottom of the barrel the situation here is personally relative just as it is anywhere else for everybody else.

the fact that I'm *****ing about the price of rice and tuna rather than steak and beer should indicate where I am.

When someone makes an ignorant point, it needs to be strongly countered with an oppositional view in order to rpovide clarity.

It's ok to not care about the rest of the world, but to complain about circumstances when you have it pretty well comparatively is just ignorance.

I merely pointed it out and apparently that has ruffled some feathers.

being ignorant is not the same as being stupid, it is simply "not knowing".

No one chose to be born in a country where there is more hardship than most G8-rs could even begin to imagine.

the idea that 4 dollar gas is some kind of huge burden is ridiculous to the rest of the world and whilc this forum is based in america, there are a lot of non-americans here.

should we just sit under the stick and wait for our beatings?

eff that my friend, eff that.

how in the world is complaining about something ignorant?

my point is that it's relative. i wish it were bread and circuses for everyone but it's not...never has been and never will.

i don't believe it's right to deprive anyone or any group of people of anything just because you can but I also don't believe it's possible for everyone in the world to be on the exact same page financially or even in basic wellness or that everyone has to spread what they have, what they have worked for, around to bring everyone else up to the same level.

should we just sit under the stick and wait for our beatings?
this makes it sound like you include yourself in the downtrodden masses???

dude, you ruffle feathers because you come off with a 'holier than thou' attitude all the time by attacking others just because they have a different POV than you.

I think the "holier than thou" attitude is a perception on the part of those who hold that view and it's solely based on their repulsion to what it is I'm saying.

As for "downtrodden", let me tell you this. We are all in hard times economically and as much as everyone likes obama, one of his first things is to enact protectionism with american steel industries.

protectionism spirals into counter protectionism and hurts the economy more.

america is canadas largest trading partner doing 1.6 billion dollars of business every day across our borders.

when protectionism moves are made to hold money only in america on projects that are indeed international in scope, it is not acceptable.

Iraq is an even better picture of this, wherein the previous administration blocked everyone from thr reconstruction in favour of strictly American contracting being done.

you don't believe it's right to deprive any individual or other nation and yet this is exactly what is done, daily by american political policy, american military and american businesses.

Dude, there is reems of information available in regards to the lopsided game that america really favours on the global field.

anyway, here we are in another "bush" thread, which are always always walways gonna cast negative light on america in general.
afetrall, the man did a lot for the world in americas name didn't he?

    what do you expect?

*sigh* Just when David starte posting mostly stuff that was intelligent, we get this.

Frankly, just because other governments follow policies that impoverish or enslave their people does not mean we have to accept it here.

Obama is setting out to accelerate and enforce the policies Bush put in place. Liberty, as a principle and self-governance as a rule and have been quietly suffocated over the past hundred years.

What David does not understand is despite the fact that things are not always what we wish them to be, we still believe a citizen has indivisible rights and the government should not trod over us.

Hard to understand for a 'subject' that sucks on the socialist teat.

And getting really hard to believe as we slouch towards the same 'soft' facism the rest of the west enjoys...

lol. Mas, you love the inference towards the british and yet there you are...in cahoots with them even moreso than my own country which has their queen on our money! lol

I understand. However, who would think that a thread about Bush, politics etc would bring "oh, america is fine now, no big deal, thanks for electing Obama and we know you'll do the right thing" followed by gushing and smiling.

what you fail to understand is that this global recession we are in? yeah that thing, that thing that will bring hardship the world over, yeah well, that's a creation of american economic policy under Bush. then stealthily cutting the legs out from under other stock markets by wrapping up a pig in a poke and then making a socialist move of nationalizing the banks in america while other countries drown in the fallout of americas mistakes.

and you call me a socialist?

    go write a comic dude.

lol, David, you are talking about **** that is relative only at the highest levels of the ****hole we call our world and at a level way above what most of us even care about...or that most of us even imagine we can change. the lower levels of every society has always just had to deal with whatever decisions were made by those with the power to actually make the changes they felt like they wanted to make.

the largest portions of the populations on this planet are getting by only by the skin of thier teeth...but, that's relative to the basic economic and social standard of where they live...and I can't help the fact that a bunch of other people live places that suck or under polities that suck more than our excuse for a govornment and I'm not going to waste sleep...or any more bandwidth...being overly concerned that all is not right with the world.

uh, you tell that to the 200,000 plus auto workers here in canada who lost their jobs this year and have not a lot of prospects in this economy that we are in.

tell it to the banks around the world that have subsequently collapsed because of wall street lies and fraud.

the problem in the worlds economy can be traced directly to the sub prime mortgage fraud perpetrated by the US federal reserve and wall street.

I haven't read this whole thread at fear of my IQ dropping. The fact is gas prices dropped before Bush left office. In fact they have crept up slightly the past few weeks, so using your philosophy it must be Obama's fault. Please

Venezuela has gas for under a buck a gallon. Move there.

Gas was going down in the last few months of the Bush Administration. It's actually been creeping up here the last few weeks though. Whoever said the drop in price is due the drop in demand is 100% correct.

Europeans pay much higher prices for gas due to their massive taxes on it.

As for Obama and this common man myth, notice his $800+ trillion 'stimulus' package does not have the income tax cuts he promised 95% of us would be getting. Gee, who predicted that one months ago?
When given the choice between big business and big government, choose big business. Big business never threw millions of people into gas chambers, but big government did.

So gas went from $4 a gallon to $1.5 a gallon because of demand......

Yes. A drop in demand will result in a drop in price. Is this news to you?

It's called the Law of Supply and Demand.
