Response to: Holocaust Denial In Canada, Times Colonist (July 16, 2000)

The Kevin Annett article "Holocaust Denial in Canada," July 16, 2000, is a strange blend of half-truths and unsubstantiated charges that has marked his crusade against the United Church in recent years.

Mr. Annett presents himself as a lone ranger voice for justice.

We know of no First Nation who endorses the work, style and/or comments of Mr. Annett. In fact some, like the Circle of Justice group with whom Mr. Annett worked closely for a number of months, have taken pains to distance themselves from Mr. Annett.

In a public statement they say to Mr. Annett: Quote

    That you have repeatedly in print and word spread unproven gossip, conversations given in confidence for reasons of security, information, sources of information and ongoing investigations that could compromise and has compromised First Nations activists and certain struggles and activities;
That you have repeatedly in print and in word, slandered and libeled, without evidence, trusted and dedicated First Nations activists (who dared to disagree with you or pose some penetrating and tough questions) with summarily-declared labels like"RCMP agents" or "The Eyes and Ears of the RCMP" or "Government-paid stooges" and with no regard to the damages done to them personally or to the struggles of which they have been trusted and effective instruments; and
That you have summarily and for purposes of self-promotion, assigned to yourself and used in print and in word non-existent titles like "Advisor", Chief Researcher" (we have not seen even one piece of your research), "Chief Expert Witness to the Vancouver Tribunal" and others that were neither authorized nor voted on and ratified by the Circle of Justice. End quote
Let there be no question that the United Church of Canada was involved in the running of residential schools on behalf of the Canadian people and the federal government. The United Church has repeatedly acknowledged this, apologized for its historic role and has gone on record as determined to pay our fair share of compensation due those who were harmed during those years. We will bring an honest accounting of resources to the table.
Ultimately though, the twisting of detail proves most damaging to a true understanding of the source and toll of residential schools. The story of these schools is not some made-for-TV movie subject to Hollywood stereotypes and characterizing it in this way does great disservice to those for whom this still provides painful and difficult wounds. Residential schools were born in a society that, by and large, viewed the assimilation of First Nations as appropriate, by any means. The church had its role but so did the Canadian public and government. To provide credence to the Annett perspective of historical record prevents the kind of profound examination and repentance that needs to happen if the deep scars caused by the legacy of residential schools are ever to be healed.

The United Church is far from perfect or blameless. But we do stand ready to work with First Nations people and communities and the federal government so that those most damaged receive as much help as possible.

As for Annett’s charges of murder, secret graves and death camps, we say again - "Anyone having knowledge of such incidents should report them immediately to the RCMPolice or an appropriate First Nations agency!" The United Church long ago opened its archives on this unhappy period in all of our lives and will continue to cooperate fully in any investigation.

    Yours sincerely,

    Rev. Dr. Keith Howard
    Executive Secretary (Acting)
    BC Conference
    United Church of Canada.
Notice this is a spokesperson from the church. These were the same people running the schools.

Anyway here's some news from just the other day:

    http://www.hiddenfromhistory.org/Rec...2/Default.aspx

On April 14, 2009 Cpl. Sabrina Mill of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's "E" Division Major Crime Section wrote to Rev. Kevin Annett and asked to meet with him regarding evidence Kevin has compiled and published concerning the disappearance of women in Vancouver's downtown eastside and the alleged involvement of RCMP officers in their abduction.
Hmmmm..........I guess now they are going to accuse Kevin of killing a bunch of women. God knows they have to investigate something since they are not investigating the horrors at the residential schools. Anyway here's Kevin's response:

In his written response dated April 14, Rev. Annett invited Cpl. Mill to make their discussion public by taking part in an open forum on the issue of police and RCMP complicity in the disappearance and death of aboriginal people, including in the Indian residential school system.

Kevin asked Cpl. Mill, in particular, to respond to the issue of the RCMP's "apparent refusal to investigate suspected crime sites related to the mass burials of children who died in Indian residential schools."

Cpl. Mill has not replied to Kevin's email and invitation.
And I really doubt she will respond.

Finally one last quote from the article:

We also urge people to monitor this situation in case Rev. Annett is detained or placed in custody by the RCMP.

    Issued 18 April, 2009
by The Friends and Relatives of the Disappeared (Vancouver)

Contact Rev. Annett at 250-753-3345 or 1-888-265-1007
People have very good reason to fear that Rev Annett will be silenced.

This Annett poseur is alot like the other poseur. He uses titles that he does not have the right to use in order to inflate himself.

Here is the United Church of Canada removing him as a Minister:

"Accordingly, we order that the name of Kevin Daniel Annett of Vancouver, British Columbia, shall be removed from the rolls of Comox-Nanaimo Presbytery and British Columbia Conference forthwith and placed on the Discontinued Service List and he shall hereafter not be recognized as a minister of the United Church of Canada, nor shall he be permitted to perform the functions of its ordained or diaconal ministry."

    http://www.bc.united-church.ca/Faith...nse_081997.htm

Of course he still uses the title 'Minister' and 'Reverend', even though the only Church to ordain him was the United Church of Canada who later rescinded that title.

The hits just keep on coming...

Here is the Squamish First Nation's take on this poseur:

"Further, Kevin Annett, who purported to speak on behalf of the
Squamish Nation, is not a member of the Nation and has no association with the
    Nation whatsoever."

So let's get down to where it counts.

You've just tried your best to discredit Kevin Annett. Why? Do you have proof that he is lying? I find it disgusting you would support murder and genocide because of politcal affliciation.

Mayhap you'll like this description of a newborn being burned alive in a furnace:

    1) nobody said anything about politics regarding this
    2) It's a horrible thing that happened just like the things that have happened in this country.
    3) Your a radical and gravitate to radical people.
    4) You brought it up and it should never have been brought up the way it was in the first place......that's disgusting
    5) It's Canada's business and problem and they seem to be getting to to the bottom of it. It has no place on here.
6)I probally shouldn't have responded to your sickness, because is not something to joke about....but it's hard sometimes, BECAUSE YOUR STILL AN IDIOT

Sometimes I just shake my head.......

Last week the Gov from Texas was wanting to secede from the union. They were totally fed up with government spending and god knows what else.

Yesterday the Gov came out and demanded the US supply Texas with 850,000 courses of antiviral medication........

To start with there were funds set aside to deal with pandemics and disease control however the Neos pitched a total fit about pork and unneccesary spending so they took it out. Governor I just don't we can afford to send Texas all of that medication. It's simply not in the budget. Also 850,000 doses? You know the rest of the country might like a little too.

Also, you guys want to secede from the union anyway...shouldn't you be getting your own medication?

Finally, the swine flu epidemic could be very bad news especially for the very young and the elderly. It would probably be advisable to have a Sec of Health and Human Services in the Obama Admin. However the Neos in congress are filabusting the confirmation of Obama's choice for this position over abortion issues.....

  13. #2578
    Speaking of filabusters:

I just heard Sen Arlen Specter is changing parties.

Now, if they ever get to seat Sen Franken (I sure the GOP will fight to delay that with all of their heart) won't that give them the magical number of 60 votes to kill any filabuster?

Maybe they'll actually make progress in Washington for a change

  14. #2579
Reaction to the Specter change has been about what I thought it would be.

True liberals could really care less.

Progressives are thrilled they have another vote.

Neos, of course, immediately started calling Specter a leftist socialist (among other things).

One has to wonder that, maybe after 150 years, if isn't time for another major political party in this country. The Republicans have been reduced to a radical fringe party. That's okay. The liberals have done it for ever. However the different is that liberals do not care about power and position in Washington. All we care about are issues that concern people. The conservatives, on the other hand, are more worried about how much they control and what they can do in Washington by force.

I think the Neos have a choice. They can either hold their ground and stick by their principles or they can move to the right and become more in tune with most Americans. If they chose to stand by their Neo principles they will soon cease to be a major politcal party. Another party will be created that will be more to the center. If the GOP decides to change and move towards the center they might survive.

One choice means to change philosophy and ideals. The other choice means to give up power........which choice do you think the GOP will make!

Obama brought change alright, apparently you don't have to be a natural born citizen to become President anymore. Paving the way for President Shwarzenegger maybe?
