    Chi Sim's Sap Yat Kuen?

    Hey,

I was wondering for any of the Chi Sim players out there: What is the essence of the Sap Yat Kuen? and what makes it unique to the Chi Sim Pai?

Just wondering I know Sergio I believe posted a vid on some of the Sap Yat Kuen but I don't think he posted all of it.

Just curious, by the way I'm not a Chi Sim practitioner but consider it an awesome system.

    Any info is appreciated.

It is bias to think that the art of war is just for killing people. It is not to kill people, it is to kill evil. It is a strategem to give life to many people by killing the evil of one person.

Probably should have posted it in the Wing Chun threads but it claims Southern Shaolin heritage and resembles other Nan Pai.

where are all these wing chun styles coming from and why can't they agree on a name?

as far as I know wing chun is 3 hand sets, 2 weapon sets, a wooden man set , and the rest is drills.

You can learn the entire system inside of 2 years top to bottom and as it is reiterative and progressive you can be using it appropriately within that time as well.

Has this system been embellished with other parts from southern styles in order to be repackaged as something else?

Not all Wing Chun families teach the 3 hand forms, etc.

Gulao/Kulo Wing Chun (as taught by Leung Jan) teaches using a san sik format.
Similarly the Cheung Bo lineage teaches the material via san sik.

Then there are some like Pao Fa Lien or Chan Yiu Min which teaches loads of forms/san sik.

Weng chun is a southern fist method that is closely related to wing chun ("wing" and "weng" are different chinese characters) and share many similarities. Chi Sim Weng Chun is Andreas Hoffman's composite system (from several different lineages) of weng chun.

The VTM had a series of articles out on it for a while, and I know that some Sergio Iardola person tried to link the two, but having done a couple versions of WC and some (albeit watered-down) chi sim, I'd have to say they're totally different.

From what i saw/did, Chi Sim looked more like an evolution of the animal styles, and WC seems like more of a purposeful departure from them.

    Just my 2c.
