marco polo bridge incident in july 7th, 1937

marked the beginning of full scale Chinese resistance.

actually, the conflicts started in 1931.

on the surface, china and japan had peace talks and agreements

under the surface, Japan increased its army, marine, naval air force build up in China steadily. a full scale invasion was imminent.

general song zhe yuan led 29th army and retreated to bao ding

on august 8th, 1937, Japanese army entered and paraded in pei ping.

general song eventually went to si chuan

he saw suffering of civilians and soldiers and was very depressed and died 3 years later.

29th army had da dao team or big broad sword team. da dao then became a standard military issue thruout the war.

at lu shan, Chiang held a meeting that also included communist representatives secretly

on july 17th, 1937, Chiang delivered the famous speech that we are the critical moment, that there are no difference in south or north of the land, there are no difference in being young or old, every one has the responsibility in defending the home land and resist Japanese. every one has the determination to sacrifice everything.

Mao's daughter Li Ming led everyone and took a bow to all the statues.

    there are many nationalist generals.

curator fan asked Li if it is appropiate, since they are communists.

Li said, yes it is appropiate to pay tribute since they are all our seniors.

more than half century has gone since then.

    as the time goes by

    memory fades

    history is more clear.

we shall all remember all the martyrs and men that fought the war when China was at its most dangerous moment.
