We gladly announce that the Lai Kungfu Institute, in its constant pursue for quality and for the structuring of an unedited curriculum of Praying Mantis style in Brazil, has accomplished one more stage on this quest, once initiated back in 1999. Chief Instructor Samuel Mendonça (Campinas) and Instructor Fabrício Pirez (RJ) have been in NY for training purposes, with Master Tony Chuy (Samuel’s Sihing and Fabrício’s Sibak), at Praying Mantis Martial Arts Institute in july of 2009. Besides several training hours on fight techniques (sarn sao) and kam la (chin-na), that was improvement of forms previously practiced back at the Institute, as well as learning of advanced forms of the system, including sparring weapons forms as well. It is important to emphasize that Master Tony Chuy is surely one of the greatest authorities on the lineage of Hong Kong’s King of Praying Mantis, Grand Master Wong Han Funn, and the opportunity of continuous practicing of the style at his Institute in NY gives us the certainty of an increasingly qualified instruction in Brazil.
